  1. Told ya to call me at noon... :dunno: We were still at the AMC place until 2-3PM, and out at WFC's for awhile after that, and then hung out at my place. Plenty of time to make it out. Rob L. i ended up at a buddies daughter's 1st birthday party after work anyway. sundays man, sundays. :wavey:
  2. :fs1:  :shake:  :headpop: :hmm: :dunce: :grrrr: :pcwhack: :fool: :needpics:
  3. i can't remember, but i know its been figured out. it should work, but you may need the whole 4 wd knuckle. i've never had a 2wd axle on hand, i don't know if a unit bearing would bolt in place of a 2wd spindle or not. but the reason not to is unit bearings are expensive and can't be maintained, only replaced. 2wd bearings are cheap and serviceable. you can buy 10 sets of bearings to one unit bearing. then there's the whole brake discussion i guess
  4. so............
  5. you all suck, i work till noon
  6. if you're that worried, pull the spark plugs, and squirt a little oil, or trans fluid in each cylinder, let it sit for a little while, then crank it over by hand with a breaker bar and socket on the crank bolt. if it turns freely, turn it over a couple times then put the plugs in, change the oil and filter, and go from there. it will smoke badly when you start it after that, don't worry. if it doesn't turn freely, i'd just let it soak some more.
  7. that really sucks about the dmv, stupid people with sucky jobs that are so miserable they pull crap like that to cope with their crappy lives. stupid power trip.
  8. Yes, I was. Yeah, I expect that the tires may have some dry rot and the battery won't live five years, but this was a NEW Cherokee Limited. I checked it over. It had not been driven. All window stickers were still in place. It is definitely worth $22,000. no, it is NOT worth 22,000. it's a tin can that you're giving to a person who doesn't have driving experience. it's 10 years old. it's never been driven. tires are gonna be junk, battery junk, all fluids junk, and quite possibly will have issues with the trans etc. from not being lubricated for all of 10 years. so, I think you're nuts as far as that goes. as far as your question...did they cash the check? you may have had a sales contract, but unless they cashed the check, you didn't have a binding contract. How will the trans have issues if it hasn't been driven? If the parts are not moving, they don't really need lubricating?? So a NOS trans that's been sitting in a warehouse for years at Chysler is gonna have issues? The only issues should be contaminated trans fluid, or the fluid has broken down and lost its lubricating or heat dissipating abilities. But if the fluid has never done anything but sit there, how can it be contaminated?! Do a full flush and with new fluids it should be fine. How is that any different than you taking something out of a JY rig that's been sitting for years, USED, and putting it in your truck? :dunce: :smart: The clutches and the seals can dry out after sitting soo long and no longer grip or seal properly if they arent getting a regular drenching of fluid to keep that from happening. Ive seen it happen, and can only be fixed with a rebuild. yep, and moisture will contaminate every system that has fluid in it, engine, fuel system, brakes, cooling, power steering. the trans can have condensation and moisture sitting inside it for years causing corrosion. there's almost no chance that vehicle would be a worry free great driver when put into service. if you're just that wealthy, and want to collect an xj thats never been driven then fine. i love xj's more than most. but in that case it should just continue to be stored. there is no time capsule for a vehicle, they cannot sit for years, and then be put into service and perform well. i have a customer with a 95 or 96 saleen, it has less than 3,000 miles on it, she's spent a few thousand dollars in maintenance and suspension parts in the last year or so, because she bought it and drives it once a week in the summer. she put most of the 3,000 miles on it, and has spent probably 4-5 thousand on it, that translates to practically 1,000 bux/mile :hmm:
  9. i'm not trying to be a jag, i know you're a smart guy, and it sucks when things like this happen. `you did see the xj right? i've had scum bag dealers try to sell me a vehicle that i never saw, or the vehicle was getting detailed, or whatever. sounds like a scab dealership.
  10. you weren't really gonna pay 22 grand for an xj were you? maybe they did you a favor. lets just say the description is right, and its some how "new", a vehicle that has sat for 9 years is gonna have all sorts of problems come up quickly after its put into service. maybe for the normal price of a used xj it would be plausible. but as a mechanic, i would've advise against it anyway. 6 grand, ok fine. but 22, seriously?? and is this "new" status verified? carfax or whatever, how does an xj sit and not get sold or driven? it can't be good. sorry man, not trying to rag on it or anything, just my input.
  11. there ya go, try that route. it is better for the jeep and everyone around you :rotfl2:
  12. congrats man. i personally would not start and drive a jeep thats been sitting that long, unless i planned on tearing the whole thing down. i wouldn't consider driving more than a couple miles without changing most of the fluids if i wanted the current driveline to last. just a thought. at least check and top off all the fluids, and pray the brakes hold up. or consider the 75 dollar tow.
  13. i'm not 1,000% but so far from what i've seen you can trust it, no need to buy additive.
  14. wow, sure is clean. and cool tonneu cover. a few to hi thats for sure, especially 2wd.
  15. definitely long bed, i think that is a big difference from towing with an xj, and having the right trailer to put the load in the right place. my owner's manual says 5,000 lbs with the things listed before for the auto, and 3500 for the manual.
  16. i am trying the 5k haul with mine soon. i agree with all that except they say the ax15 can't do it, and i think it is the clutch. so is there an hd clutch that can do it? i prefer manual trans, but my big ton is an aw4, and it stated that trans can do it. and they get hot, so auxilary trans cooler is mandatory.
  17. And a Dana 44 rear axle. Realistically, for the truck described I would consider the maximum towing capacity to be 2,500 pounds. i knew i was forgetting something in that list, thanks. definitely dana 44 to tow 5000 lbs.
  18. realistically the tow capacity w/ an ax15 is around 3500 lbs. the auto can actually tow more in these trucks. mj's can have a 5000 lb capacity w/ aw4 trans, axillary trans cooler, and trailer brakes.
  19. my horn was on the driver side same position you're saying. only one on mine, so i wired another one in. i've heard speak of wiring already there for 2 horns, i dunno though.
  20. no pic in the link, i feel robbed. :fs1:
  21. it would look pretty sweet, i say do it. classy.
  22. congrats gramps pics or it didn't happen :D
  23. ya, would you quit following me :rotfl2:
