  1. I've never taken a physics class. Those laws never change period. Seems to me a wrecker with a higher angle of pull would have gotten either vehicle out a whole heck of a lot easier, not to mention cheaper. Well thought out use of a winch and some hand tools could have done the same. Physics have always been an integral part of my life, from 20+ years in construction, to changing the tranny in my truck. I always keep in my mind to work smarter, not harder. Both cases were prime examples of working harder (brute force), definitely not smarter.
  2. I think it is a CFC "kill"
  3. Really, what are they marketed for? To work on? To be usefull? Do they even really care? Heck no.........THEY WANT YOUR MONEY AND THAT IS IT.
  4. Actually, I was wanting to research if I can have Part-time 4wd with this TC set up. Or possibly switch to a Part-time TC. I never liked anything where I don't have a "choice".
  5. My daughter wants one because they're "cute". She could care less how well it works. Me, back in the days of little to no money, a 10" B&W TV was a luxury. Today, aint no way in hell I'm stepping down to a smaller screen on anything, Just bought myself a 46" LCD flat screen for Christmas. :brows: :brows: :brows:
  6. Check fluid level?
  7. When I swapped an AX-15 into my 87, I used the existing crossmember. The only thing I changed/used was the AX-15 mount. I didn't have any exhaust clearance issues at all. I made sure that I got and used the TC linkage that went with the AX-15.
  8. 10k mi clutch? should last way longer than that if it aint "rode". Said it time and again, if you drive a clutch, that pedal is either in or out (with a few limited exceptions) not an "in/out go pedal combined foot rest", girls drive like that.........
  9. They pulled the heads, but I can't tell how much they got into inspecting the heads and motor. Lately it's been REAL winter here and I haven't been able to do more in depth inspection on it. Besides, I really need to get the 88 Chief done so I can sell the Voyager then get this thing running. When I say REAL winter I means blowing snow and single digits. Been a outside dog my whole life but have to draw the line somewhere. Last few days its warmed up enough to do some outside work, were having a 29 degree heat wave. :rotf: :rotf:
  10. Got the sway bar drop brackets fixed today, yeah I know, I could have just got extended links for it. It came with the DBs so I figured I'd go with the setup that is already on it. Might have to pull the left side one off if it has clearance problems with the pitman arm. That was pretty much the last of the major underside stuff to be done, got a few other small issues to fix then she'll be roadworthy. I been really wanting a grill guard for it, but seems that cost and distances are keeping me from getting one I want. Oh well, hopefully time and patience will pay off with a good deal in the future. If all else fails I'm thinking of cutting and modifying the one that was on my last TJ to fit. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found After looking at the pics I'm kind of not sure if the angle of the bar is going to be acceptable or not, tomorrow I'll compare it to one of the other Jeeps.
  11. You are at "the good source" for parts and info. I'd stick with the Renix 4.0 at least till your totally sure of what a 4.0 HO swap entails, then if your willing to do it. Almost forgot, "welcome to the club"!
  12. The crossmember is the same, you will need the AX-15 tranny mount though. The rubber part between the trans and the cross member, they are different and do not interchange. This is a must have item.
  13. Get the XJ, stop at wallyworld on the way home for some spray paint. All is good..........
  14. What would make taking the running gear out of the Astro swapped into an S-10, a Cyclone or a Typhoon? Weren't S-10s and blazers available with this same running gear, or are you talking about adding a V-8 with it? On a second note, I'm hoping the dealerships definition of a scored cylinder is different from mine. If that is the case, I plan to have the heads R&Rd, install new gaskets and call it good. The dealer (Ford-PO had it torn down and diagnosed by them)) said it had a cracked head, I don't see any damage or anything that shows they did any real inspection on it at all. If they Magnafluxed it would I be able to see the dye? I think they (Ford dealer) just wanted to sell the PO a new engine as that route would be much easier for the mechanic, and management. Sooner or later somebody is probably going to ask why was a Chevy taken to a Ford dealer for repair? And that is because the only commercial mechanic in town wouldn't fix it because it is too old, makes for a liability on his part if he doesn't get paid. the next closest commercial mechanic is the Ford dealer 40+ miles away.
  15. Naw, I just like to always have more than one vehicle available to drive.
  16. I was getting tired of the Voyager and wanted something different, got this in trade for $200 worth of work. The "stealership" says The engine has a cracked head, and a scored cylinder wall, it originally went in for a bad head gasket. Plan is to sell the Voyager for $600, use the money to get this van up and running. The Astro has high miles, but is in very good condition. It has receipts for a new engine 60k mi ago and receipts for a rebuilt tranny and all service work done. Besides, this van is way better than my "soccer mom" looking Voyager and it is AWD. Hmmmmmm.........31s, 4" of lift..........
  17. Every kid in the world knows the word "Jeep," and that it means "Cool". I have always liked them, when I was 15 my mom and step dad bought a 74 jeep J-20, they had no clue about it's capabilities of being a Jeep, to them it was just a truck. Every time I wanted to take the back roads near where we lived, my mom would say something like it was too muddy and that we might get stuck. The truck had a 401 and Quadratrack, I doubt we could have gotten stuck very easily. Fast forward a bunch of years, I bought my first Jeep. 1999 TJ 4.0 AX-15, That one got totaled, next came a 2006 TJ Rubicon 4.0 Auto. That one went back to the bank due to an economic crisis. So here I am with the Jeep addiction, Jeepless, yearning for another. I knew I couldn't afford another TJ, seemed to me I would have to take a step down to the lowly XJ models. At that time I never knew about the MJs, or even remembered that Jeep made them. As I was searching CL, I found a post under "Jeep" for a 87 Comanche $500, a couple phone calls later, a 4 hour road trip each way, the little red MJ was mine. It has been just over a year, $4 thousand + invested in this truck, I have boxes and boxes of parts for it, and I only drove it once. Last summer, I met this kid, we started talking about Jeeps. I was telling him about my 87 MJ, then he told me about this jeep truck he has, a Jeep Comanche. I told him I'd like to check it out, he told me where I could see it. A few days later when I went to see it, he told me he would probably sell it pretty cheap. I was thinking maybe 3or4 hundred bucks would be cheap, then he said $ 100 bucks! I almost didn't go for it because I really didn't want another Jeep to feed, and here it is 4 months later and the chief is almost ready to go. MJ addiction? 2 MJs in one year, thousands of dollars spent, yeah I guess so.
  18. My front end clunk was from the axle shaft U-Joints being toast. I didn't find them till I put the front DS back in after being rebuilt.
  19. 1. When reinstalling your transmission, replace the two "stupid" bellhousing bolts (Top 2 male Torks) with real bolts. 2. If you have either of the fenders or doors off, use the opportunity to replace the female Torks in the door hinges with real metric bolts. This makes for super easy door removal or adjustments. :typing:
  20. My 100 dollar truck came with DBs on it. For the other MJ I bought a set RRO DBs (used) because I like the design. Both of my trucks are not going to be "rock" rigs, they will be used mostly for trails and mud, so I'm not seeing much negatives in my application. From what I can see, the DBs are a small price to pay for a much better ride over the cost of a long arm setup.
  21. I'm using 2 r/side soft lines, and a Dakota line for the axle to the frame. As seen here: http://www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/ford88.html
  22. I want a keychain........I'm in for $ support. I agree, I'm illegitimate and can't read so well, so it don't matter.

  24. Been an outside dog all my life, spent 20+ years as a roofer. Best thing I learned about hot and cold climates is this, when it's hot outside, it's HOT, not a darn thing you can do about it. When it's cold, a person can always put on a coat or take it off. I like the fall, living here in the north, seeing the leaves turn colors. The cold makes me remember that winter is for renewal, every cold day gets me closer to the warmth of the summer sun, but still, I can't wait to go skiing! :clapping:
  25. That's a heck of a deal, I'd be hard pressed not to cannibalize/swap out some of the parts for my Comanche, make my money back and then some.
