  1. When it comes to tools I'm sure we all have an assortment of metric and SAE wrenches and sockets. Seems the one that gives me the most grief is 18mm whatevers, seems they aren't standard in most sets. I suggest buying a 18mm box/end wrench and a few 18mm deep & std sockets.
  2. Gotta say your braver than I am, jumpin in with a V8 swap on a vehicle that most find a challenge just droppin an I6 into. Good luck and tell us how your progress goes. FWIW lots of support here on the board. If you don't mind my askin, why not just do the I6 swap, way easier in the long run especially if you can get a complete donor to help with the swap? And welcome to the club
  3. If you get conversion parts from the JY just get EVERYTHING for the linkage. and your welcome.
  4. Z linkage is fine On the body side bracket the hole is in a different location from the one that uses the BA-10 For the AX15, the hole is all the way to the rear of the bracket. BA10, the hole is in the middle. http://comancheclub.com/topic/20403-transfer-case-linkage-components/?hl=trunion&do=findComment&comment=213758
  5. Coming to a stop at low speed, neutral coast OK. Long downhill coasting in neutral, not OK. Long downhill coasting with the clutch in causes undue wear on the TO bearing. My dad said you want to stay in gear to be in better control of your vehicle. When I drove a semi, try finding the right gear in a hurry if you have 18 of them after you were coasting at highway speed. Offroad in 4wd, steep downhills definitely stay in gear, all the running gear stays tied together all brake action tied together, makes sense all around. Coasting is a bad habit like riding the clutch, or taking somebody home from the bar that you don't want to be seen with the next day. Whats the point? Nuthin, just sayin. :rotf:
  6. Overpaid, yup, me too. I'm into the 88 for over $7K Guess the Chief makes up for it since I only paid $100 for it.
  7. Sorry, Indigenous North American Natives
  8. don't forget that if this is for a conversion YOU WILL need the part that is on the body side of the transmission tunnel as well.
  9. That truck is fugly, gonna need more than a Jeep part or two to help it out.
  10. Hope the guy isn't indian, because if he is and he knows that you want his/your old truck back, price just went up :rotf:
  11. Hooks over a tab in the bucket behind the light.
  12. I'm wondering why your puttin it in neutral to coast? I know it isnt as bad as if in a commercial vehicle, but it is bad form to "not be in gear." As far as professional driving goes  Just sayin...
  13. LMFAO, only Jim could find the a way to solve a problem so simply... :rotfl2: And thanks again Jim, I'm glad your a CC member, hope to meet you in person someday.
  14. I love the fact that these trucks aren't very common. Makes my day when somebody comments or asks a question about it.
  15. I like this answer, learned sumthin new...
  16. Spend some time at the JY, take one apart, learn how it comes off and you get the correct fasteners that you need.
  17. I've seen this on different vehicles with a hole all the way through. (so the timing marks could be seen?) I always thought it was a "target" to shoot a timing light through, a "fixed reference point" if you will, that does not change. Maybe a fixed target on some vehicles before/after centrifugal or vacuum advance.
  18. My Chief would run circles around that, everything, well nearly everything works, don't have to worry about the paint, I'd let it go for $5K if I was to sell it.
  19. Are you sure the bolts are too short? Did you try and pull up on them to make them reach the bracket? There are supposed to be plastic keepers under the battery tray that prevents the bolts from dropping down making the bolts look too short, maybe try pulling up on them.
  20. In this pic you can see that the bulkhead to battery bracket is up side down....
  21. Bummer, my LL came in today and I can't install it till I get some axles............. :???: Actually the truck is down because I already tore it apart...bummer again
  22. Pics of the bumper http://comancheclub.com/topic/16700-100-88-mj-megan-joy/ second page
  23. Thing that always made me laugh is that my heeler could sit anywhere in the car when I'm not in it, But he HAS TO sit in my seat, the drivers seat. Guarding the steering wheel or my spot or sumthin.
  24. "can't sit in dads truck, so I'll just sit on top of it" Good dog...
