First Jeep I Ever Touch! Kinda Need Help! Lol
64 Cheyenne replied to Sohosh's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Run! don't walk, get as far away from it as soon as you can! Unless you want to own a truck that many will admire, some will try to steal and your wife/girlfriend will be continuously be complaining about. Really seriously, If you want a rare vehicle that you can put your heart and soul into, then keep the Comanche and welcome to the insanity club. -
mvusse, thanks for the typo catch, I did know the caps are 1 1/16" FWIW, the hitch comes apart and would probably fit in a box 6x6 x maybe 48" +/- and weigh 30-40 lbs if even that much.
-
Physically, the little U Joints have 1 1/16" caps, the 760/297X caps are 1 3/16". A quarter, (25cent) works for a handy pocket gauge, it is 1" in dia.

Cracked Door Pin Receiver Thing
64 Cheyenne replied to Korsch_RS's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just replace the whole hinge. Not sure, but I think back door ones from an XJ will fit, they usually have little wear because of being in the back. -
I filled the stripped holes with JB weld, then redrilled, no problem.

Cracked Door Pin Receiver Thing
64 Cheyenne replied to Korsch_RS's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Think how much mass that striker must be absorbing, the weight of the door plus how hard it is being slammed, I do not think you should weld the striker area until the door hinge alignment issue is fixed. If you weld it without fixing the hinge at the same time...fixin it next time might not be so easy. Fixin somethin that has been "fixed" already sucks because if the right job is done right the first time, then there won't be another "fix" of the same or related problem. Look at the door repair that I did on the Chief, fixed it right the first time, done deal. -
HELP!... I still need these axles, Willing to pay Cash, maybe trade for MJ hitch and or Fey bumper
-
As the title says, I'm looking for a set of 297X axles to go into the chief. Already have the correct inner seals to deal with a disco axle... Possibly willing to trade a good fey bumper with brackets for them.

Practice getting through the spot welds on the donors other side first. If not just cut it. You should be able to see the spot welded areas from behind the headliner at the top, don't know about the bottom.

Annoying Chattering/scraping Sound
64 Cheyenne replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You don't have to take anything apart to check the HB, matter of fact you nearly had the right angle to look at it in your video although the engine should not be running. Look top down, possibly put a light underneath shining up to see better behind the balancer. -

To the OP, your intuition says WP, sometimes your "intuition" can be one of your best tools, ...or your worst if it gets away from you. -

If I had to guess without actually seeing the truck, I'd have to possibly say that the HB is coming apart and hitting/scraping the timing cover or if not, most definitely a bearing from an engine accessory. I second the opinion of taking the belt off, starting the truck, ruling out the noise coming from the engine. Could also prove HB is hitting the timing cover. You could also run it for a while, shut it off, use a laser temp gauge try find a "Hot" bearing. -
When I opened the pub page and seen that Jim posted...first stop, and I agree. What a celebrity....When Jim talks...people listen. lol

Ho Non Ac Fan Belt Routing
64 Cheyenne replied to 64 Cheyenne's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thats cool, got a part number for the Dorman? Did a search, ebay, summit, rockauto, they all show the square shaped one is for 96 up. Will that work for my 95? -
So I'm putting an HO in the 87, I'm going to keep the Renix engine controls and will use the HO intake and accessories PS pump, alternator etc. What do I do about the AC pump? Don't really want to leave it in place... Not doing any type of engine powered OBA, as I want this truck running this year. Besides I bought a CO2 system on the cheap that I can swap between trucks if needed. Did HOs Come with a non AC idler like the Renix non AC did? Already got the alt and TPS figured out so not the issue here.

Hey Don, Why would you change the oil before you park it? I change mine after I started driving it again. I assume it stirs things up a little and gets any sludge out. Am I doing that backwards? Fresh additives in the oil, no acids or bad stuff to be left in CC over time.
