I like newer rock, Evanessence, Korn, Linkin Park, Sytem of a Down. Alternative like Alice in Chains, STP, Audioslave and all of Chris Kornell's derivatives, Pearl Jam. Non hair metal like my all time favorite, Metallica . Classic rock like Zeppelin, Hendrix, Allmans, Sabboth, Skynard. But sometimes I need some Blues, like SRV, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker. I also love blugrass... ever since the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", but I can't stand pop country, though classic country like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Patsy Cline are all great. I get into some classical as well, Beethoven is a favorite, and anything with a haprsichord in it I could listen to all day. Maybe its time for me to come into the 20th century and get an I-pod or something to keep all this stuff together. :shake:

Do you still have the height sensor? I couldnt really tell from your post if you still have it or not. If you do, you need to make sure the arm is in the correct position for proper bias front to rear. The sensor arm needs to be parallell to the ground at normal ride height. If you have lifted, you also need to lengthen the rod the same amount. If the rod rusted off and you tied the arm in the UP position, youll be getting too much too the rear. If you have removed it, and didnt put in any other type of proportioning valve, then you are getting full brakes to the rear all the time, I can see this situation causing rear lockup. I am in central NC, and make semi regular trips to Battle Creek, Mich. It might be possible for me to bring the seats up next trip if you wanted to work something out with ncm1. I'm not sure how badly you want them or how soon youll need them, but if all parties are flexable, it could be done. PM me if interested. -

The orange wire under the alternator is for the AC compressor clutch.... even though you may not have AC. It is there in case AC got added later, and the rest of the AC harness was added in. Its not hot or anything, just THERE. The two prongs on the trans are probably for the reverse lights, check to see if yours work. I'm not sure about the other connector, or the possible speedo cable... sorry. But I am sure that if you do enough looking around your truck, especially under the dash, youll find a whole bunch of unused connectors just hanging out. The factory used the same harnesses for several option packages, so there are wires in your truck for stuff you don't have, like a factory clock... the connector is there, and there is even a fuse in the fuse box for it, even though you probably don't have a clock. Same goes for courtesy lights under the dash when the doors get opened, the connectors are there, we just don't have the lights. There are several examples of this, just don't worry too much about it. -
True story. An old man drove his 92 Cherokee into my dealership service dept yesterday after his heater control valve busted to see if we could get him put back together enough to be able to drive home. I should mention its a 50,000 original miles original owner Cherokee that looks like it was driven through a swamp and then pushed down a mountain... covered in tree sap, leaves and dirt, and beat all to heck. Anyways, as the service writer drove it in, all you could hear was the water pump screaming. The writer just bypassed the control valve and filled it with water to get the guy back on the road, and told him that he wouldnt mind buying it if he wanted to sell. The old man declined, and went on down the road. Evidently, while he was driving home yesterday, the Jeep caught fire. The old man saw the smoke and just kept driving. Other people also saw the smoke and called the fire dept. The firemen caught up to him while driving and followed him home right into his driveway, and proceeded to pull him out of the Jeep and try to put the fire out. I have no idea how bad it was on fire when he stopped, but after looking at it today, it had to have sit longer on fire than how this story was told to me, because the whole dashboard is gone, and the whole engine compartment is burned up. Anyways the old man called up the writer who helped him yesterday, told him what happened, and told him if he still wanted the Jeep to come get it for free. So he takes off at lunch with a couple other guys, and a borrowed car dolly. They push it up on the dolly, and overshoot, pinning the writer between the Jeep door, and the dolly fender! It bruised the heck out of his shins, he thought at one point he may have broken his leg, but he seemed to be walking around OK this afternoon. So he calls a tow truck to lift the car off the dolly and set down correctly, and he drags it back to the dealership. One of the other techs immeadiately tells him he'll give him $450 for it, so it changed hands again already, so I ask for the rear hatch and tailights off it for my freebie 86 XJ waggy that was given to me last year. So now I have all the body panels I need to seal it back up, and I might get the title for it too, to make my 86 possibly road legal later on down the road. I think the motor will go to one of the guys in the body shop who needs a new motor for his XJ, and I'm sure whatever else he can sell will also go before the rest go to the scrap yard. Sorry for the long story, It was just too screwed up to keep it to myself!

I have the bench and a manual, and put my seat fully on the passenger side. If the wife rides she goes in the middle. Thats the ONLY way it will work, and its been working fine for two and a half years now. My daughter loves riding in the truck, and I hope it stays that way. It is completely legal to do this this way because the MJ has no airbags. So strap that seat in and ride!

V8 in a Comanche?

Go through the projects section, youll find several builds where people are doing this, either with 5.2, 5.9 MOPARS, or Chevy small blocks. I think Advance adapters makes mounts for the Chevy motors, but like Pete said, its gonna cost ya, and youll still have problems. Another option would be to get a stroked 4.0. Several companies build and sell them including MOPAR, but you may have cooling issues with one of them as well. If you need more power than the good ole 4.0 puts out, you just need a bigger truck. -

I did much the same as you, bought a truck to use for hauling stuff back and forth for house projects, and fell in love... it is now my baby and is getting fixed up, but still used as needed. I also bought a second one for parts, but found out, its too nice to scrap the rest, so it will eventually get fixed up too. And a bad spot in the floor is NO reason to need to change the cab or transfer all parts from one truck to the other. Just patch up the floor and move on. It has been documented on these pages many times, and will get you back to what you might consider a nicer truck. I'm assuming youve never encountered a northern vehicle or northern MJ and seen what rust really is! I'm glad to have my rust free southern trucks after growing up in Michigan and dealing with it for too many years. And seeing what some of the members on here go through to try to bring rusty MJ's back from the brink will make you glad to have what little rust you have. If they are both as relatively rust free as you say they are, you need to fix them both! Just keep an eye on Craigslist for Cherokees for cheap and youll have everything you need to fix these baies up. And for a full center console, just find one you like out of a cherokee, and block off the parking brake hole... or adapt a Cherokee parking brake to your MJ! I'm planning on buying new tires for the MJ next year, and have been looking at what I might want to get. And I noticed a size I havent really seen before or heard much about... the mentioned 32x11.50. Will this tire be an issue going on stock aluminum rims on my 87? I don't really do off roading so clearance at full flex isnt really an issue, and I have a set of WJ control arms sitting around if needed. I have a 2.5 AND 4:10 gearing, 2.8 4x4 front springs with an added isolator, and lengthened shackles on 2wd leaves out back at the moment with 235/75R15 BFG A/T's. More lift is in my future with the possibility of some trips to Uharrie, but I still wonder if there will be more issues than I want to deal with with this size? The tires I'm looking at are Yokohama Geolander A/T's in 32x11.50x15. They have the best price compared to others and a high customer satisfaction rating, and the Geolander A/T's I have on my Tucson have been performing well so far. I think the biggest part of it for me is that I want something that looks a little wider than the 31x10.50's... just for the look of it. Tell me what you think

The 84 and 85 2.5's were carbed as far as I know, so upping to a port injection systme from 91 or newer would be a good step up. -

If youre looking for quick and easy, this isnt it. It would be if you already had a 2.8 V6 in your truck, that way all you would have is a long block swap, but changing from a 4 cyl to a V6 will be a lot more work. If you had a complete donor vehicle sitting next to yours with everything you needed to swap, that would be better, but if youre relying on junk yard trips to get parts, its going to take you forever.... not to mention finding a JY donor in the 84-86 range that hasnt been picked over yet, and a junkyard donor 3.1 or 3.4. It might be easier to find a late model 2.5 with port injection, and swap in the engine and accessories, intake and exhaust, with the engine compartment harness, and dash harness and computer and fuel pump assy. This will give you a bunch more horsepower than the carbed 2.5 and be much simpler than converting from a 2.5 to a 3.4. Converting can be done, but it will be more difficult and time consuming, and it sonds like youre trying to stay away from that. Let us know what you figure out! Good luck. -
Technically, it doesnt say "United States of America"... which means that if the manufacturing company wanted to be crappy, it could have been made anywhere in the North American market, which includes Canada eh, The USA, And Mehico. It probably was made here, but the way businesses are nowadays, you never know.

Just for your info, they did have a cassette option in 86. I got mine from an 86 Wagoneer, not sure if it has a Jeep emblem on it, but it does have the AMC logo... Ill have to look to see if it has a Jeep logo.

Track bar- fixed or adjustable?

If you have 4" lift, you definitely want an adjustable. I have a Pro Comp one, but only because it was free. If I had to pay what they were asking for it retail, I wouldnt have bought it. But also, don't try to make your own, I don't care how good your fab skills are, just get one thats done right to begin with! -
