I'm still only running one WJ control arm, and have been with no issues. I may try to install the others after the first of the year. Just ordered an RRO MJ control arm drop bracket set to prepare for lift. I hope I don't have issues with RRO like Ive read about. I did a little searching but didnt find a ton of complaints about them so hopefully Ill be ok. I'm also in the process of installing the WJ booster and master Ive had laying around for two years. I just need to finish flaring the lines into the MJ block and bleed the system. Hoping I don't have issues with the rear prop valve. If I do I may be eliminating it as well. The 1986 stock Wagoneer radio is starting to give me troubles, so I'm looking into either having it repaired or replacing it with something new. I really like the original unit, and have issues with confusing tiny buttons on the new stuff, so I may just have it fixed. I traded the motorcycle in my sig for a 1960 F100 4x4. The bike had been sitting for 7 years at that point and its value was about the same as the truck. Ive yet to start working on it, but it needs just about EVERYTHING so time will tell. I thought it best to save it from the kid who had it before it got really messed up. Again I'm horrible at updating and I'm not on here as much as I used to be be, but I'm not going anywhere. Love this place. Keep up the good work.

Shocks for a Smooth Ride
dasbulliwagen replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Good to know. I'm not sure Exactly which ones are on my truck, but they were new takeoff probably 8-9 years ago, most likey a sport, but who knows. -
I'm a big Tire-rack fan, mostly because of their ratings and customer review sections. That and all they have can be arranged by price or ratings. Their prices are comparable to Discount as well even with shipping. Bought the current set of tires for my wifes car based on that. Ive also bought from them in the past but not for my Jeep. I was going to but then the new JK takeoffs fell in my lap, so now I'm stuck with Goodyear Wrangler SRA's until they dry rot enough to the point they are unsafe (because Ill never put enough miles on them to wear them out before then)

Shocks for a Smooth Ride
dasbulliwagen replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I put the black JK takeoffs on mine and have been happy. Theyve been on there several years with no issues. I'm suprised to hear that the red ones are the same as the black ones just painted a different color. Is there any proof of this anywhere. I assumed they would be at least valved a little differently. I have a set in storage but didnt get them until after the black ones were done and on. I'm preparing for a lift so may change to Bilsteins or OME's at that time, but I like the JKs. -
aFe also sells a header but is for non egr use. If you arent in an inspection state this will bolt right up, youll just need to delete the EGR.

3.6 Penstar Engine Swap
dasbulliwagen replied to Irongook's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not sure its been done or not. It might not fit width wise either. You would probably have to run the entire donor vehicle wiring harness to make it work. Not sure if there is anything stand alone available for that or not. Would be an expensive swap no matter what you do though depending upon the cost of a rwd donor Grand Chreokee, Durango, Ram or if youre staying 2wd, Charger, 300, or Challenger. -
Choosing Comanche?

I know the manual trans trucks are more fun but the auto that came behind the 4.0 is a really good one the AW4. -
Putting 17 inch wheels on
dasbulliwagen replied to CRM1988's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have the standard JK wheels on mine right at 32" and get rubbing during certain turns but it isnt enough to damage the tires. I'm at about 1 1/2" over stock 2wd ride height. I'm not sure I'd have the same experience with the MT's you have though. -
A new oxygen sensor fixed mine when it was doing that.

1986, 2.8v6 what auto trans
dasbulliwagen replied to jlaw's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In mopars the A904 was used mostly with the slant 6 but also with some of the small block v8 cars. It can handle a 3.4 no problem. There are valve body upgrade kits available for them too that take care of any issues these trans had. I plan a similar setup for when my daughter begins to drive. Good luck. -
Been having running issues with the MJ lately... 2.5 TBI... I'm planning on going through cruisers renix tips, but I'm also thinking of going through tune up parts/ fuel pump/injector items anyways. I know that most places don't have correct fuel pump listings for our trucks so I'm wondering if anyone has a correct part number for my setup? I know the TBI has a lower pressure than the the renix 4.0, so I just want to make sure before I buy something. Search didnt come up with much. Thanks for the help.

The 86 and earliers had external slave as well for both the 2.8 and 2.5. But when I changed mine over I found both bellhousings the same (internal and external) but the internal one didnt have the ball stud or the slave studs and spacer, otherwise they were identical.

Tire/Wheel sizes question.
dasbulliwagen replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Chrysler Dodge LX platform (300, Charger , Magnum, Challenger) wheels may have a little contoversy, but they are usable and Ive seen guys on Naxja using them. They also have the same hub diameter (at least the steel 17" one I tried before did). The police versions are equipped with an 18" steelie that I really like, but I ended up going with a set of 17" JK takeoffs, with Spidertrax adapters. That's another option for you, but sounds like you are looking for a budget priced set of bolt ons you don't have to worry about adapters with. Good luck. -
Chrysler 2.7 V6 into an MJ
dasbulliwagen replied to mrmel2you's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They are just a hot running engine. That leaves no buffer for overheating issues that might come up that and they are very sensitive to a lack or maintenance which is where the sludging up issues come from combined with hot running. Its just a poor design with poor longevity. -
Chrysler 2.7 V6 into an MJ
dasbulliwagen replied to mrmel2you's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm a Chrysler dealer tech, and there is NO way I would EVER put a 2.7 in a beloved vehicle of mine, even if it were free. It is a worse engine than the 2.8 V6 that came in the 86 Comanches. That engine should never have been put into the 300 or the Charger as it is too small for the platform. They suffer from running hot, sludging up, and letting the water pump leak into the crankcase. That being said, there is much demand for used 2.7's for people that want to fix their cars that were equipped with them (because they don't last very long). I'm betting you could get $1000 for the engine by itself to someone who needs one. Sell it, and buy yourself a complete 4.0 XJ donor vehicle and swap it all over. Youll be much happier in the long run. -
Some models do come with the at first troublesome 9 speed auto. They are supposed to have fixed the issues with them by the point of the renegade release so they might be ok. I am though starting to see issues with the 2.4 multiair engines wirh oiling issues... either low oil pressure or oil consumption. These engines are totally dependent on oil pressure for intake valve actuation. If oil gets too low it can lose prime and thus compression and quit running. This happens at just over 2 quarts left in the crankcase or at around 4 psi or less of oil pressure. Oh and the renegade is made in Italy if you didn't know. Let us know what you end up doing.

1960 F100 4x4 V8 4 speed
dasbulliwagen replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
This will be a slow project... just like my Comanche. The 57-60 models are considered a forgotten stage of the F series trucks and are nicknamed the Fridge due to the refrigerator door looking hoods. Surprisingly the axles are about the same width as an MJ XJ. I have a good pair of axles with a non disco front sitting under one of my parts trucks. I'm considering using them (temporarily) under this if the original axles are bad. I may convert it to Saginaw style steering too as the original style is weird. And obviously all the brakes need gone through too and trans and t case. A lot of work. Thats not to mention the rotted floors and fenders. Ill keep ya posted. -
The Good, Bad, and Rusty - 04/09 CL List
dasbulliwagen replied to Bonkers's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
This should be moved to the pub.... or at least copied there as information as to what our trucks can sell for. -
Traded the bike in sig for this truck. The values were actually pretty close. The bike has been sitting for 7 years and needs $1000 of stuff done to bring it back to right again and is only worth about $2500 in good condition. The truck is worth about $1000-1500 as it sits even not running, and value on it goes up from there as it is fixed up. It is a 60 F100 4x4 longbed stepside. There were less than a thousand built in that combo that year. It is rough but fixable and all the repair parts are still available. Makes a big difference restoring an old Ford compared to whats available still for our Comanches. The engine in it is locked up solid, but Ive already bought another that is buildable and supposedly OK. Still intend on going through it to check everything out. The block casting numbers say it could be either a 292 or a 312 Y block. Ill need to pull the pan in order to find out. The PO says it came from a car originally so I think theres a 50-50 chance its the sought after 312. Thefront axle is a driver drop Dana 44 closed knuckle, and the knuckle bearings are shot. The rear is a 9 inch. I'm worried too because inside a box that was in the cab were a couple of spider gears. There might be an axle swap in this trucks future if there are too many issues with them. I found out too a coworker buddy of mine has 3 of these sitting hes parting out, (2wd's) so I got that going for me! Anyways, here's a few pics.

if you look up my build thread "Comanche Limited" youll see the custom mounts I made to mount an XJ rear bumper on my truck. It wasn't that hard to do, I'm sure they could be easily dupluicated by someone willing to do it.

Questions concerning the 2.5L bolt pattern
dasbulliwagen replied to Jtrux's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It has been done by a member on this site. My recollection is that he couldn't keep trannys in it for very long. The next weak point after that is the rear end if you have a dana 35. Look up build threads by jeepcomj and you should find some info. -
Just a minor update to get back to the top. Added a junkyard ZJ steering box. That made a difference in the quickness of the steering. Went from 3 1/2 lock to lock, to 2 1/2 lock to lock. The old box was leaking too so it was time. I'm now getting an intermittent pump noise, but it otherwise works good. I also started adding WJ control arms. The grinding and cutting process is taking much longer than I anticipated, so I only have one on there right now. I need to do the others pretty soon. Just never enough time. I also took a bottle of Clorox bleach cleaner spray to it to get rid of the moldy look on the old faded white paint. It looks better now than it ever has since Ive owned it. But overall it just slow but sure progress on the old girl. I don't see myself ever getting rid of it, so I have time.
