  1. My wife took the truck today for whatever reason, but I got a call this morning from her saying the there was "smoke" coming from the truck and coolant running out everywhere as she pulled into work. My vehicles always seem to break when she is driving them. There were at least two instances when she was driving my 68 Beetle. One time she broke a clutch cable, and another she had an exhaust valve spring break. And she seems to be able to run over every nail there is in the road... thank god for road hazard warranty on the tires I had. Walmart gave me at least three new tires under that plan for unfixable punctures near the sidewall. Just seems to be a pattern emerging here. I guess I should just keep her in the new car while it still has bumper to bumper warranty left! Ill let you know what I find when I am able to go check it out this evening.
  2. I'm curious too, to see if its worth it! :brows:
  3. :agree:
  4. Great score, especially after seeing the real beauty. I agree cash for clunkers is a horrible program that puts perfectly useful vehicles to their untimely deaths. But working as a tech for a Jeep dealer, I and others that work here have had the opportunity to salvage what we want for our personal projects at no cost to us. While we didnt get any 1996 up Cherokees, we did get 4 XJ,s including a mint 86 Wagoneer of which I took the whole front end including the doors and any useful interior parts. I also got parts off of a 95 XJ country including header panel, wheels, overhead console and speaker bar, sway bar, and a seat for my brother,s 2000 XJ, wiper motor, cowl panel and whatever else. If they would let us touch the engines, I would have had a complete H.O. motor too, but we can't do that. I was also able to fix the brakes on my boss's 88 MJ by getting parts from the 86 Wagoneer. I have yet to tell him its fixed, but this will be huge brownie points for me! Sorry if I hijacked!
  5. I'm not sure, Ive never really had one out or apart, I just know thee basic workings. Sorry. I don't have one near me right now either to be able to tell you if it comes apart. I would just find a good used set.
  6. My 87 has locking belts, maybe yours are just bad. You should just go look for a set that works properly. Not sure if front belts from similar year Cherokee would work or not, maybe someone else will know that. I think sometimes the inertia lock on the retractors gets froze up from dirt or rust and they stop working. Good Luck.
  7. Just turned 342,000! GO 2.5!
  8. For someone who is taking it hard in the backside by Pat, you sure are defending him alot. What gives? Sorry if you think I'm being an A hole but something aint right here.
  9. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16924&start=0 I knew I remembered something, on the second page. Maybe its something, maybe its not, and like I said, I apologize if I'm wrong.
  10. I don't know Pat, but at this point, I'm not sure I would even want the harness from him. And I may even go so far as to wonder if it ever existed. I think it is time for this forum to be done with him, and for those who have dealt with him to cut their losses and be done with it. For all we know Jeepcomj is still on here watching under another name, but my guess is that he really just doesnt give a chitlin. Am I remembering correctly that he used to have a sustance abuse problem, or was that someone else? Maybe he fell back into old ways and whatever money he gets is just going toward that. Ive seen it before and I'm sure Ill see it again, but that would explain a lot. I hate to make assumptions about that, and if I'm wrong, I'm sorry. But if that is the case....
  11. Are you having running issues, or are you just worried about the amount of fuel in the filter? And are fuel pumps $70 now? I guess its been a while since I bought any. If you are getting fuel starvation at higher RPMs, then I would say maybe the diaphragms are getting old and should be replaced or the whole pump replaced. Just be sure to get the right model as there are a few different ones depending on if you have an alternator or not, or the plastic isolator or not. I'm sure you know that part already if youve been into VWs long enough. Or you can buy a blockoff plate and wire in a low pressure inline electric pump available at any VW aftermarket supplier. Good luck! wanna buy a 68 Bug?
  12. On the one I just pulled it had the 2 relays, and two seperate connectors for the fogs lights in their respective locations. All of this was in the header panel harness and disconnected at the ten pin connector. If you have the whole harness already, then just wire up the switch and the lights and go. I have no idea what the single 2 pin connector might be in that area. Maybe for a temp sensor on the models that had the info center? Thats usually where they are on new cars. Good luck.
  13.
  14. Check the crank position sensor and the wire going to it, maybe you pinched the wire, or it came undone.
  15. I just parted out a 95 Cherokee Country with what I assume are factory fog lights, they have a factory style connector, but the lenses on them clearly say BLAZER. Sorry to hijack, just thought Id let you know! :dunno:
  16. We need some more details about your setup. What engine do you have? Did you get all new parts, or used ones? If used, did you pull thr parts yourself? It is pretty starightforward. If you have a 4.0 there are just 2 lines, a supply, and a return. If you have a 2.5, there is a third hose that goes from the resevior to the pump, usually much larger in diameter. I can't remember if on my steering box the fittings were 2 different sizes or not, but they may be, and if that is the case, it can only hook up one way. You can see in my previous post picture that there is one line from the pump that has a screwed in fitting... that is the main pressure feed line to the box. Then there is a line that come from my box... smaller in diam that goes to the resevior, then there is a large diam hose that goes from the resevior back to the pump completing the circuit. If the two line connections on the box are two different sizes, theres only one way to hook it up. If they arent different sizes, Then I can go out to look at the truck for you tommorow and let you know which is which. Good luck! And don't forget to get a bottle of Lucas Power steering stop leak!
  17. SHWEEEEEET! Thank you! My brother will be happy!
  18. Had a buddy of mine send me these pics. I don't know where they are from or anything, I just know I LIKE IT!
  19. My brother has a 2000 XJ of which has a busted driver seat. Will a seat from a 95 bolt up, or is the track slider different. And if the slider is different will the 95 seat pan/frame assy bolt to his 2000 slider? He asked me if I could pull him a seat from one of the 5 cash for clunker XJ's we have. I just want to make sure it will bolt up. If I remember right wasnt there a change in the seat tracks somewhere in there? Thanks for the help!
  20. Does anyone know if there is an official Jeep museum? Maybe if there is they could help with production and serial numbers. Ive never had a reason to search to see if there is one, but maybe Ill try today. It would be great to know where your production number falls. Congrats on that find!
  21. Does anyone know if the calipers and all from a 95 XJ 4x4 will bolt up to an 88 MJ 4x4? Just looking at them, I know the calipers look different. Will the rotors need to be swapped too or should I just compare stuff when I take it apart. The problem is my dealer owner has an 88 MJ olympic edition that has always had problems with the brakes. It will stop, but the pedal gets to the floor before the system has full pressure. We have swapped the booster/ master assy twice, put a NOS MJ front prop valve in, adjusted everything, bled everything five times. And the owner doesnt want to spend anything more on it. We have a Cash for clunker XJ country sitting here and I was wondering about swapping the front calipers to see if that would make any difference, just wondered if anyone knew if it would work or not. Thanks for the help!
