  1. TH-400 is 79 and older passenger drop. TF-727 is 80 and newer drivers drop.
  2. I paid $500 for my 92 4.0 2wd manual with 100k on it in 2011. I put approximately $1,500 into it in the first 6 months, that includes making it 4wd and putting a Dana 44 in the rear. Also put new brakes, and cooling system in it. It now has 214k on it and all I've doon since the original work is put an alternator and brakes and exhaust on it. I drive it every day and it is getting very rusty so I'll be pulling it off the road soon to repair all the rust. It has never let me down.
  3. My old 1998 4.0 says 30 or so at Idle and 60 at speed. It has 448k on it and the internals have never been touched. Ymmv
  4. Does it sort of have a visor over the windshield or does it look more like a wagoneer in that area? If it has a 258 in it it will have had a Chryler 727 TorqueFlight transmission. It is an 80-88. The sheetmetal you see surrounding the radiator opening didnt change from 65-91, you can put any style grill from any year FSJ on it.
  5. Jeep didnt have a problem putting GM engines in their products, why should you? 225 Odd Fire V6, Buick 350, Chevy 153 4 cyl, GM 2.8 V6 Comanches were made to take the torque of the 4.0 taking off with 2,200 pounds. I don't see how a hot rodded ls with sticky tires would do more twisting than that. I'd love to put a 400-500 hp 6.2 with a T-56 in my 92, I think it would be a blast. It would also do daily driving duties as docilely as a stock 4.0. I'd hate to see how temperamental a 450 hp 4.0 based engine would be.
  6. Is the whole hole stripped or just the beginning? Get a tap and chase it before you do anything else.
  7. I would like a long wheelbase with the length behind the wheel arches the same as a short bed. I think that would look just right.
  8. Eagle has one in one of his rigs. It's doable.
  9. Transmission, AX15 crossmember, flywheel, master and slave cylinders, clutch, longer driveshaft. Maybe the panel where the shifter comes through the floor from a manual cherokee. Try to find a 1994 or newer transmission so you can go external slave. If you can't find a 2wd transmission use a 4wd with a transfer case and just don't put a drive axle in the front. Mine was like that for a couple years.
  10. 4.0 has a round housing, 2.5 has a housing with three straight edges on the top half the top edge will be horizontal with the sides at approximately 45 degree to it.
  11. AW4 with GM 60 degree V6, AMC 2.5 bell housing. Should have flats on the bell not round like 4.0 bell. Also if it was equipped with the 2.5 and AW4 you should have a 4.56 geared axle.
  12. Some TJ Rubicons had chrome Moab's, I think 2003's. Also 1998 5.9 ZJ's had a nice looking chrome 5 spoke wheel.
  13. Another option is get a 95 wrangler outer disconnect axle shaft and just lock that side so it's always engaged.
  14. Loosen the top two bolts before you loosen any others. There will be less tension on them.
  15. Use a stock tank and sending unit out of an 1986 MJ for a carbed setup. Depending on how much horsepower you're putting out it may not flow enough. It was only intended for a 130 hp V6.
  16. For $500 I'd buy a complete XJ with an AX15 in it.
  17. 94 and 96 used the same size pilot bearing.
  18. You can use your current computer.
  19. That's not an ideal setup for your 92. Look for a 92 -95 transmission and transfer case they'll bolt up and plug in with no chsnges to what you have. But see if the guy selling the MJ parts has the driveshafts and shift linkage and shifter for the transfer case. Also all brackets for tcase linkage. 92-99 XJ will also give you a better front axle. 96-99 will give you larger ujoints in the axle also.
  20. 1.5" dia x 2.5" long aluminum round stock with 1/4" radius on the ends is what I have on mine. Gives it a little extension and has a nice feel. Easy to make too.
  21. If I was going to change the oil every 3,000 I'd use the walmart oil.
  22. How do you figure a whole lot less moving parts? A distributor has only one moving part same as cam sensor and 00-01 has 3 coils to fail instead of one. Also 00-01 has 3 cats instead of one and 4 O2 sensors instead of 1 or 2. And two of those cats are in a pretty tight place. A real b*@$£ to change out all those O2 sensors.
  23. True. I'd probably even take it through the car wash every now and then. The current rig loses paint if you wash it, so that's kinda out. Although in all honesty, I'd still be running a Mobil 1 or Castrol full synthetic in it. Fixed it for me.
  24. If I had a rig as nice as Don's I would treat it a little better than the $500-$1,500 piles I usually drive.
