  1. very nice :D that the one that popped up on ebay a while back?
  2. all depends on what parts were installed over the years. most everything that could have a grease fitting is available in a non-greaseable form (u-joints,steering joints, ball joints, etc).

    Snowpocalypse

nothing but a bit of ice here east of atlanta. the slightly warmer temps hung on and kept the snow at bay.
  4. those are newer Jeep rims with the 5on5 bolt pattern, yes? spacers will push it out and less backspacing could put it right up to the fenders when turning. going to be close but it might work. 1.75 or 2" coil spacers are easy to come by for leveling the front. you'll want to check the alignment after any lifting.
  5. Meg is a gigantic tank of a truck and so my brain skipped to the quote from Hammond when Bo said he drove it "for pleasure". It was funnier in my head.

    Snowpocalypse

I've been watching the radar and the snow is trying mightily to reach us, but so far the heat is winning. nothing but regular rain and 36*. Atlanta is another story. I bet that place is a ghost town.
  7. may not be as funny if ya don't watch Top Gear, but I couldn't resist... :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: (that's Richard Hammond when he got to drive a tank)
  8. Thankfully they seem to work pretty well right now! so did mine. didn't find out the rear weren't doing anything until months later. :(
  9. make sure your rear brakes are functioning properly. I mention this because my 88 came to me with pieces missing from inside the drums (dissolved by rust). :fs1:

    Snowpocalypse

technically it's not the snow that hurts the south as much as it is the ice. just no way to deal with ice down here (although I hear-tell of some chemical spraying trucks available for the highways). no one has salt, no one has chains, no one has skills, and the highways are mostly 2 laners made completely of curves with 10ft+ drops on either side and no guardrails. ice kills down here.
  11. I think 5" of lift might be pushing the limits of travel for the factory tie-rod joint. :dunno:

    Snowpocalypse

I was in Atlanta for 2014 and escaped from being trapped on the freeway with my father and my little nephew by maybe a half-hour. that woulda sucked. :ack: the radar shows tonight is going to be a rough one with the freezing rain, but I'll believe it when I see it with the snow on saturday. unlike 2014, this time we have a generator :D (heat pump here, no propane or gas or oil or coal or anything truly useful in frigid weather). It's just best for everyone to stay home (so I can have the roads to myself :D ) there are some definite plusses though. :D
  13. all MJs used the same headlights.
  14. also, if you've never dealt with speedo gears before, the different tooth counts correspond to different tire-size/gear-ratio combos. there are charts floating around to help you figure out which gear you'll need. oh, and the t-case insert rotates to accommodate the different gears. google should be able to find a writeup or 2 so you can see what I'm talking about.
  15. the kits are pre-wired. they just plug in behind your headlights and intercept the power to fire the relay and send full voltage to the lights. the relays' will need to be mounted somewhere and then you run a ground and then power to the battery. nice and easy. :D http://www.ebay.com/itm/CERAMIC-H4-HEADLIGHT-RELAY-WIRING-HARNESS-2-HEADLAMP-LIGHT-BULB-SOCKET-PLUGS-7-/330997592807
  16. yes, pull that plug out and replace it with the older style from a junkyard t-case. be aware that the shafts inside may be a different length and so you might need to swap the gears around (they pull right off).
  17. if you can get your hands on one, then I'd wager you paid the right amount. :D
  18. so how long is the truck total?
  19. ya know, I knew about the deer incident and my heart still sank when I scrolled to that pic of the damage. :( sharp lookin' rig! . :MJ 1: .
  20. puuuurrrrty sure you have to add in both halves of the axle tube.
  21. haven't done it yet, but I've got plans for JK axles under an MJ. TNT makes a wonderful truss for the front that allows you to make use of the stock MJ/XJ suspension geometry and eliminates the key weakness of the JK axles (the thin tubes). for the rear I was just planning on leafs so no help there. the front axle doesn't need to be shifted at all. there should be a couple writeups for how to bypass the mechanism in the link in my sig (top thread in the DIY forum if you can't see my sig). also, welcome! :waving:
  22. it's a tiny amount. all our trucks have 1 overload so if he had the double overload variety, it'd mean an extra half inch maybe (thickness of that one leaf). If he has the other variety, it'd be a quarter inch.
  23. yup. what Jeff said. also, something in the back of my head says the spline counts of the yokes (2wd peugeot vs late model 231) is different. make sure the yoke fits before trying to measure for the new shaft.
  24. are you talking about the newer sealed rear output vs open design of the older t-cases? old: newer: I also mated the trans and t-case before installing them.
  25. nope, you're good. weight carrying ability doesn't affect the gain from a spring-over conversion. Now, you might be on the high end of what you'll need to hike up the front, but not any more than a set of 4x4 leafs in good shape. From the factory the Metric ton leafs didn't sit any taller than regular packs. They just resisted sag better.
