I've grown super attached to mine. Just don't buy one that's rusty.

the first day starts at the Airport because I'm dropping my folks off. don't know exactly when except that it'll be evening and so doesn't really lend itself to meetings. heck, I might have to skip Jeremy (the end destination for that night) if I'm running behind. and god only knows what I'll need to do if the flight is canceled or substantially delayed. Besides, the house is on the east side of atlanta so it'll be far easier to have a meetup closer to you later this fall. I already promised Sam one after our last attempt fell through.

finally got my dakota all cleaned up to sell... and today the battery died and now the engine suddenly won't idle (revs fine but dies as soon as I let off the pedal). I've decided that whatever the problem is can wait til morning. maybe a full battery will magically fix it.

just for clarification (depending on what answer you were looking for): would ANY xj front axle ratio match? no. are there SOME xj axles that would match? yes. Problem is that your current ratio is likely 3.07 and that ratio sucks. my suggestion is to keep reading. there's a ton of experience and opinions on the CC. absorb all you can. Then formulate a plan. figure out what it is you want and how to get there from here. Keep in mind that old parts are old parts. even the newest XJ is pushing 20 years old now. Being able to test drive a potential parts XJ is a plus (over a pile of question marks that you have to tow home). buying a rebuilt trans is also a plus (vs one with 200k on it). finding OEM parts is a plus (chinese parts can ruin your day). etc. my ultimate DD build: 4.0 with AC rebuilt AX-15 with external slave late model dana 30 with 4.10s late modal 8.25 or 44 or 8.8 with 4.10s late model 242 t-case with the sealed rear output complete and quality 3" lift 31" tires

what's your budget? planning on any lift or bigger tires?

quick question, do you need 4wd for anything in your daily drive?

it certainly does long exposures though. I can't get enough of pulling images out of the pitch black darkness. it's like a james bond power. on the first image out the hotel room we didn't even realize there was a second giraffe until I looked at the 30 second exposure.

lockers are a fantastic way of getting yourself hopelessly stuck instead of merely kinda stuck. friends and tow points are key!

On the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney World there's this scene with a skeleton steering a ship. it's quite dark but is occasionally illuminated a bit by a lightning effect. I've been trying for years to get a decent pic out of it, usually by timing it with the lighting, but it never works out quite right. not too long ago, Disney installed a "ride photo" spot just on the other side of the water that snaps a pic of your ride boat. This last trip I somehow got it timed exactly right, but was a bit startled by the results. Instead of providing some illumination, it looks like they turned on the lights! oh well, at least I now know what will happen.
