on the positive side, this morning I woke up in a campground today and walked around in the cool wet grass with no fear of anything biting or stinging or stabbing my bare feet. Rust may be a big downside, but there are some definite advantages to midwest living.

This is the inside of my previously near-perfect wheel. there are 4 sets of these gouges. The other 3 rims are used and have less severe damage. I'm starting to think I'm going about this wrong and I should really be looking into a wheel repair place to get a quote. it's a real bummer that it's sunday today. Or maybe see if walmart will throw down the money for Brandon's powdercoated set.

I'll snap a pic in the morning, but essentially the machine grabs the inside of the rim and for whatever reason it grabbed it super hard or whatever and the teeth gouged the aluminum.

If you could brIng a couple nice ones I'd supetr appreciate It. I'm not typically a vengeful guy, but they messed up a perfect rim that Jim himself gave me. I'm still livid.

made it to a KOA in Union, Illinois for the night. the nearby walmart was kind enough to pay for it after they gouged the inside of my turbines I got from Jim. (the machine did it while they were removing the old tires and they "reimbursed me for my trouble". if anyone local has a turbine I can borrow, I'm told they would also cover the cost of "replacement" on the worse one. yeah right, like I'm going to find another never-ever-used turbine.

A or B? I didn't realize that they could be had without that plastic trim, and yet found 2 members on this trip that didn't realize they could be had with that plastic trim. Is it a model year thing?

It was a last minute thing. we can try to meet up on the next trip. very glad I went to martin's though. it was awesome. more in the morning once I have a mouse and table to work at.

yesterday I said goodbye to colorado with a stop by Martin's salvage. be prepared for another photo dump from that place. I've never seen so many 40s and 50s cars in one place! scored some cool crap including a pair of old frenched caddy taillights. and then nebraska was a complete failure. both yards had crap and were overpriced. but that let's me get to Dzimm a day early so there's that going for me. :)

now you know why I jumped on that deal for the entire contents of the engine bay of a junked crd. Pat and SirSam are my go-to guys for crd questions.

I'm not sure what you mean by a chrome cover.? I've seen precisely two Comanches I did not drive out here to see. one was parked on a sidestreet, the other was visiting one of the junkyards but I couldn't find the owner so I left a club card behind.

went to a couple more junkyards this morning. picked up a full cluster, headlight rings and some other random bits. but then I spent the afternoon in a sweet vehicular museum with Jason and the guys. be prepared for a massive photo barrage once I get some wifi. tonight I'm at a nice colorado rest area just north of another yard that promises to have some older cars in it. looking forward to it.

went to 3 junkyards today but didn't find anything I needed. but I hung out with Jdog and a bunch of old car guys today. super fun conversations! tomorrow I'm going to hit the last 2 'yards in Denver and then Jdog and I are meeting up with the guys to hit up a car museum. The hafaJeep is pretty full at the moment. I've got a bunch of Jim's old Jeep stuff which I will be selling on consignment for Katie.

Went on a cool side trip with Katie and Scott yesterday. Nothing crazy, just a leisurely drive up through Phantom Canyon.
