um, if I remember right for swapping just the block, nothing. it's simpler than even doing the same thing with 4.0s.

looks like you got a good amount of progress done. the thermostat's job is to warm everything up. it doesn't help cooling at all. cycling the coolant sooner just keeps it in warm-up mode longer and burn more fuel as it tries desperately to get up to operating temperature.

you can use any 2.5L block. right up to the end of XJ production. don't limit yourself to the older ones.

fun fact, the individual sheetmetal frame pieces are different between an XJ and MJ. probably close enough to make work, but it won't be an exact fit.

legit snow tires are like having a super power. I had my minivan in 6" of fresh snow and it handled it great. I'll take snow tires + FWD over 4wd for snowy roads any day. and you can run them year round. they make fantastic rain tires too. cheap enough to just get another fresh set the next winter if you drive a lot.

yup, perch moving is very common. just remember that XJ perches and MJ perches are different widths apart too. don't just weld new ones directly under the XJ ones. MJs are 42" center to center.

I'm a bit late but I went through and edited out the common reused codes this morning. sorry, but you don't have rack and pinion steering or a powdercoated rear bumper. lol

yup, 87 4.0s didn't have it. it was added in 88 to quiet the pump. (and retrofitted into some 87s)

3.73 gears is by far the most common ratio in the Libertys. great if your truck is 2wd, but 3.73 is one of the least common ratios in MJ/XJs so finding a front axle with it can be a challenge. fortunately 3.73 is common in ZJs and TJs and those axles bolt in. be sure to add some basic tidbits about your truck in your signature.

paint codes will be on the metal tag on the firewall towards the drivers side. the list we get from Chrysler is both incomplete and problematic. your full code list will be longer (because a lot of info was lost by AMC way back when before chrysler got it into their computers) and filled out more accurately (chrysler has since reused some of the codes and so now the original meaning is lost to us).
