  1. Muuuuch, much nicer than mine. :D
  2. Dang that's a clean lookin' truck!
  3. You wrote it backwards. Explorers are SUA and Rangers are SOA. It's the opposite of the MJ (SUA) and XJ (SOA). The reasons being that the Explorer and MJ have the leafs mounted directly below the frame, while Rangers and XJs have the leafs mounted outboard of the frame. The Explorer and MJ have offcenter pins, but the front bushings in both are larger than the rear bushings. The "Code F" Explorer leaf packs are the ones you want. There are 2 different kinds of leaf packs and a mono leaf and code F is the stiffer multipack. car-part.com can help with that or the leaf code is on the drivers door sticker if you're in a j'yard.
  4. Um, a right hand drive Cherokee maybe? :teehee: Sorry, I couldn't resist. :D
  5. You came in second though! :teehee:
  6. But the 8.8 for your Jeep has to be from an Explorer/Mountineer if you're keeping the stock Jeep front axle. The other's are either larger or wrong or inferior. Late model Rangers with the FX-4 package are also good, but Explorers are waaay more common.
  7. car-part.com will help you out with that. There are plenty of 95-01 Exploder 8.8s out there with 3.55 gears. Make sure you get one in good shape unless it's super cheap. and MAKE SURE that the junkyard pops the cover to let you inspect the innards before you buy. One of the 8.8s I purchased recently was in a side impact collision. I know this, not because I saw the truck, but because the axle was apparently shoved into the center of the diff, cracking the center pin in half and tweaking the axleshaft. :headpop: Also make sure the brakes are in good shape. The Ebrake drum parts located inside the disk are prime candidates for rusting apart. A search in the tech forum will bring up even more pointers.
  8. It just takes some patience and a bit of footwork. Well, ok, there's probably a bit of luck involved, but then you'd have to consider me "lucky" because I'm unemployed and have all the time in the world to drive hours away from me to buy/sell stuff. :driving:
  9. Used tires/wheels are best. :D
  10. Strong recovery points, a second vehicle, and using your brains can go a long way. So can momentum, but that generally requires you skip on using your brains. :D I've tried wheeling in 2wd (because tight turns with a front minispool sucks), but my anemic engine needs low range in anything even remotely challenging. :(
  11. Oh, and it depends on the fast-talking skills of the person trying to get away with it.
  12. Depends. You have to weigh the risks and rewards. Drunk driving is a no, while storing 24 tires in the back yard is a yes. :D
  13. Yup. I was going to put one in my new MJ, but decided to use my Dana 44 instead (I already had the 44).
  14. 4wd MJ on the left, 2wd MJ in the middle.
  15. An increase in tire size will hurt the performance of an engine if the gear ratio isn't changed to match. This wouldn't happen to be a gold colored MJ would it?
  16. What size tires? What gear ratio in the axles?
  17. I can't speak for the 1990 Jeeps, but the 93 AW-4 I have sitting on the floor takes either a 7/16th or 11 mm for the CPS bolts.
  18. I struck a deal with the decal guy. He'll have them cut tomorrow and I'll do the rest of the work (weeding and facing the decals). It's cheaper too, but mostly it bumps us up in the waiting line so I can get everything prepped, ready and out by weds (hopefully). (I'm hoping to leave for camping on weds night)
  19. Wouldn't a faulty CPS cause the engine to shut off? :hmm:
  20. I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I killed a Dana 35 on 30" tires and street driving. :D
  21. Do they work if you turn the emergency blinkers on?
  22. Chuck you need to remember to sign in. :D Rockwells can be done cheaper than 60s, but you really need a TON of horsepower to justify them (and a ton of torque to move those heavy chunks of steel around). What are your plans for tires and engine?
  23. Seems prudent to check to see if the little TPS arm isn't stuck.
  24. TPS? Is the brake booster vacuum line connected?
  25. Hard to beat soft aluminum sheets and self tapping screws for ease of covering a hole. :D Not the best for durability though. :(
