Could be a combination of mildly worn parts too. Search for "death wobble" and you should find a couple of old posts that list all the possible culprits.

Have you ever pulled the panel off with the door open? Doing that with the door closed is hard, but possible. Having a bench makes it a lot easier (in that there are fewer bolts to undo and empty the interior).

A couple winters back my Dakota wouldn't idle for crap. I had to keep on the gas to keep it running. I was all worried about replacing expensive sensors and what not, but it turned out to just be a bad battery.

I had that happen to me once on the passenger side. Ended up pulling off the door panel to get at the stuff inside. If I had to do it again, I'd remove the seats and center console first (I have buckets). Maybe you could spray some WD-40 (through the straw) down past the window to the lock mechanism? Or maybe that would just make a huge mess... :hmm:

9 inch axles don't match the Jeep bolt pattern. That's why they aren't as common for swapping. You need to put extra effort (money) into either changing the pattern or swapping in a front axle too. Oh, and I broke something in my 88's 9 inch last offroading adventure. Don't know what yet, but the pinion is just a bit looser than before. :hmm: Can't touch it though, as it's in line behind my '90 for a turn in the garage. Nothing is invincible, but the 8.8 is right on the 9 inch's heels for toughness.

Swap out the carrier for a full locker or aftermarket posi and the Explorer 8.8 will take pretty much anything you can throw at it. The carrier, spiders, and center pin are the typical failure points (though they are still very hard to break).

I often wonder why other sites have such a limited selection. Of course, then there are some that have like 5 billion smilies. :hmm: No no, it's something I really should learn. I just wish there was someone next to me that could point at the screen and say "click here", "now click here", "Ahhhh! don't click THAT!!". I could seriously benefit from some personal tutoring or at least some flash tutorials that show what's going on. It's like trying to learn a foriegn language when all you have are books in that language with nothing to translate.

It wasn't "included", it was simply free online. Our host is working on some forum templates that would be available for a small monthly fee. When they come out I'll see what they are and how much they charge and we can think about it then. I may be willing to pay a couple bucks for something a bit more user friendly (meaning you don't need to be a computer geek to make changes). Nope, but it would fix his speedometer. The stock gears for a 4.0L/stick are 3.07s. 3.07s suck in a major way. I would go with 3.55s. This site has some calculators on it. http://www.4lo.com/4LoCalc.htm Lower RPMS don't necessarily directly lead to better gas mileage since the engine now has to work harder to maintain the speed.
