  1. I wouldn't say it's a "major" issue, but I would give some thought to strengthening the area. What were your plans for a front bumper?
  2. If I moved to Arizona, my MJs would be coming with me. :D Maybe the red cancer would slow down a bit. :hmm:
  3. Where the heck did Scott get too? He made a trailer out of his old MJ after he rolled the pristene body down a ditch trying to dodge a deer.
  4. I like the one with the mud tires. :D [imghttp] Good, because the original CC logo won't turn out very well on a shirt/hat/whatever. :D
  5. Any year 84-96 will work, but not every style of seat is created equal. Only 2-door XJ seats lean forward. Power XJ seats won't work. The "rocking" XJ seats will sit you up higher that normal (can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how tall you are).
  6. Update. Front axle is finally in. I got a bit lucky and between the old axle and new axle, I seem to have a complete set of arms, brakes and such. The new axle gave me the drag link, tie rod, calipers and brake pads. The old axle donated the track bar, control arms (so far), brake lines and rotors. I say "so far" because I'm working on getting some WJ arms. I had purchased some used rotors from the junkyard, but they gave me the wrong ones. I think they go to 2wd Jeeps but I'm not sure yet. Oh how I hate that 'yard. Anywho, here's the front axle in. It's non-CAD, 3.55 geared, and has the bigger U-joints. Still have to connect the stabilizer and sway bar, but I'll do that when the truck is on the ground and the axle isn't so far from the body. One of the old pads: How I got the coils in: Unlike my 88, the 90 will have a functional speedometer. I swapped the shafts from the speedo gears because the old gear was closer than the new gear. Later on I'll swap for the correct one. But the main point is that the newer t-case with the wired speedo can stil be made to work with the older cable driven ones. And for anyone that doesn't know yet, the tops of gear oil bottles fit very nicely on the engine or trans oil bottles. Coming up next is to get the clutch working and wrap up the front axle.
  7. It'd be good for the gas burning, but not good for the engine componants or fluids. Auto engineers have to find a balance.
  8. We went by the tubes one year, but not through.
  9. Snorkals are cool, but I know I can't run a snorkal all the time. Some tree would have removed it for me by now. :(
  10. These ideas are all well and good, but if none of them can be replicated on a T-shirt, this is all moot.
  11. As far as we've been able to determine, the AW4 came into play in 87 and replaced the earlier non-overdrive transmission. Best bet is to get them to read the tag on the trans.
  12. I searched for an 89 Jeep Comanche transmission and then a 2wd 4cyl.
  13. A bellhousing doesn't weigh all that much. Shouldn't be too hard if you can find a junkyard over here that will separate the housing and torque converter (and whatever else is needed) from the rest of the trans and then ship it. Try car-part.com I see there's a place in Virginia selling the whole 2wd trans for $50. I'd give them the 50 and tell them to keep the trans. :D
  14. It's for emissions more than anything else. Gas burns more efficiently at hotter temperatures, and so the faster it gets hot, the better.
  15. Yeah, see if you can get one of these. Some auto parts stores loan them out for a deposit.
  16. I believe "cold" in this instance is defined as anything below the engine normal operating temp. I know it's warm in Georgia (my sis lives there), but it's not quite that warm. :D
  17. It never hurts to measure. :D
  18. It's a skinny little front driveshaft. Just plain wussy. I doubt the rear will fit either.
  19. Sorry, but not only will the d-shaft probably be the wrong length, the shaft is of an inferior design. 86s got gipped in the front d-shaft.
  20. Interesting. It's coming from the same IP address as Tall Earnestine and mac007, both of which said the same thing. Guess I'll try banning that instead of the individual names.
  21. I'm guessing no. The ZJ and MJ frames don't share any pieces. I'm not saying there isn't a chance, I'm just guessing that they won't bolt up.

  23. car-part.com can help you out with prices.
  24. I've heard about using the lowers (with mods), but what about the uppers? Mine have 210k miles on them and if I find lowers, chances are there will be uppers there too. But will they fit? --Pete
  25. My copilot is always up for a ride. :D
