Fitting Headlight Stone Guards
Pete M replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never had an issue with the household silicone and heat anywhere. But if you want, you can simply use high temp automotive silicone and it'll take anything you can throw at it short of the blowtorch. -
Well, if you're ever heading to Atlanta let me know and I'll give you my parent's address. I don't get to Georgia very often. :(
-
If you guys aren't along I-75 between Detroit and Atlanta, it'll be a while. I don't have the money like I used to for long side trips. I once drove 3 hours out of my way to pick up a free bedliner for the 90. :D But gas was cheaper and I was less broke. :(

In our classifieds there are a couple of searchengines for finding MJs across the country. Keep an eye on your local craigslist.org too. ebay can be useful, but you're competing against plenty of others. the auto trader type sites can work too. -
It will be gone by this weekend from the looks of things. You can stop by here and pic up the one I have. Tired of looking at it leaning on the fence but hate to just throw it away. Just a bit of a detour, eh? :D It'll never happen, but I do appreciate the offer. Post it up in the classifieds if you haven't already. I'm sure someone will need it.

Depending on where you are in Georgia, I've got an internal slave AX-15 bellhousing left over from my 90.

A basic tuneup is the best medicine for improving MPGs. Beyond that, you can remove the mechanical fan for an electric. That'll free up a couple horsepower.

Sounds like too much money. And I concur, for that much money I wouldn't let it touch the pavement after October. Heck, I wouldn't let it see the light of day until April. My 86 was completely rust free when I first bought it (for a few hundred and from a guy that drove it up from Oklahoma) and it only took one winter here in Michigan to highlight every single nick on the truck with the red cancer. :( A few years later and now I have a gaping hole in my floorboards. The truck may or may not be worth the money, but I wouldn't use it as a winter vehicle. -
Fitting Headlight Stone Guards
Pete M replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For what it's worth, I've had those stone guards for years now and the stock mounting system lasted all of a month or so. I gave up on it and eventually used black household exterior silicone to "glue" the guards to the headlights. Haven't had a problem since and the silicone makes it possible to peel the guard off and re"glue" it to the new headlight when one burns out. -
What size tires do you have?

My "new baby" is that empty shell of a '90 that jbhill currently has. shelbyluvv, if the '90 doesn't have one, and you still have the bedliner when I swing by in a week or so, I'll see if I can grab it.
-
I wonder if my new baby has a bedliner in it yet?

You're only allowed to talk about mag mods if you have pictures to go with it. :D I'm sure we all have a thousand little mods that we'd love to talk about. I'm particularly proud of my pop bottle holder and the 88's air intake (which looks awesome, but has some practicality issues). So what's your wait? Talk about them!

Uhm...one more thing! I need DANA-44 U-bolt hardware for the fatter axle that I will be using. Does Motion also have that? Thanks! Paul Someone correct me on this if I'm mistaken, but I seem to remember that MJ 44s have the same outer diameter as the 35s. But either way, you could PM motion and ask them direct.

J-Truck or Wagoneer Springs
Pete M replied to CMMagnussen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
An inch or so I'd guess. 2wdMJ leafs will also drop an inch over 4wds. Condition matters a lot in this though. Saggy leafs can be found anywhere. And don't use the Explorer main leaf, always reuse the MJ main. The Explorer main's center hole is a bit off. Also the Explorer leaf packs use a slightly larger centering hole. Oh, and there are two different Explorer multi leaf packs out there. One is stiffer than the other. But I couldn't for the life of me find an Explorer guy that could help figure out which is which in the 'yards. 4wd MJ on the left, 2wd MJ in the middle, Explorer on the right. These packs are obviously unloaded so don't assume that you will literally get a 2" drop from the Explorer leafs. Experimentation is the only way to know for sure what will happen with the leafs you find in the junkyard. -

Oh no, not "lift", explorer leafs give you a "drop". They are flatter than MJ leafs. I was using them as AALs to get more load capacity (and to a lesser extent to fight spring wrap). They might be good as leafs in a bastard pack for an MJ going SOA but not wanting the full 6 inches of lift. -
Were you able to retrieve it? Do you plan to attach it now? :brows:

It's possible for the bar to migrate to one side or the other. Make sure the sway bar is centered.

You're admin for the entire internet save for 3 sites? So you're admin at "insert-nasty-website-name-here"? :brows:

I would take a can of WD-40 with me and before each trip in the truck I would hose down one connection. Eventually you should find the culprit and keep it lubed in the future. The sway bars would be first on my list, followed by the shock mounts and the shock bar under the cover. Or you can hose it all down the first time and take the shotgun approach to it. You may not learn the exact source, but the sound should go away. :D

A word to all the football players out there: don't get on my fantasy team!! It's bad luck! Now I've lost Plaxico Burress to a suspension for week 5 after he got all of 4 points last week. And Donte' Stallworth is still on the injured list. :hateputers:

Rules of thumb for MJs: 2.5L + 4speed manual = 3.55 2.5L + 5 speed manual = 4.10 2.5L + 4 speed auto = 4.56
