  1. The weakest part in the entire uniframe is the point between the steering box and the track bar mount. Make sure that it is extra super beefy. It was never designed to have the suspension mounted forward of the engine.
  2. Today I put the new plate tags on the trucks. A day late but whatever. :D
  3. IMO: 20x20 = one car garage I can't imagine losing that 4 extra feet. :( Where will you put your stuff?
  4. Do you have a side shot or an underside shot showing all the ends of the leafs?
  5. I swear you have vehicular ADD. :D
  6. Stuff I've learned with the garage dad built years back (before I was into Jeeps): -before you park anything in it, cover the floor with one of those coatings -insulating the walls and sheathing them in plywood will never be easier -oh, and a ceiling is nice too. Makes it much easier to heat in the winter and cool in the summer -a 20x24 garage may sound big, until you park an MJ in it. 24x24 is the smallest I would ever accept if I was starting from scratch All are things I regret not pushing for off the bat. I just didn't know any better at the time. :(
  7. In the PM page, on the left is an "options" box. In it is a "Rules, folders & settings" link. Ckick it and somewhere near the bottom is a choice of letting the last PM automatically delete when a new one comes in.
  8. I ran into a similar issue (one more leaf than stock) and I believe I just used a slightly thinner grade 8 bolt. Not perfect but it got the job done. :D
  9. How far back do those front mounts go along the frame? I can't quite tell in the pics.
  10. Well, then you've got some reading to do.
  11. 6.5" is an approximation. You bed will be roughly 6.5" higher than it currently sits, but that's relative to how it is now. If you somehow added a 6.5" puck to the front, then the truck will sit level (assuming it sits level now). But you'll be adding brand new coils to the front. And they are likely to lift the rated amount, but that doesn't mean they will necessarily match your current leafs, which may have sagged a little over the years like mine. Personally, I'd go with a 4.5" to 5.5" lift kit, and if the rear end sits too high, I'd either add a little pick to the front, or throw some crap in the bed like a truck is supposed to have. Bottom line, it's hard to predict how your truck will turn out when using 20 year old leafs. Oh, and the metric/big/heavy ton package sits about the same height as a regular 4wd MJ. But it will better resists settling after you add the big spare tires, gear etc. Also should resist spring-wrap better.
  12. I assume you've seen this article? http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/article/a ... ?id=277008
  13. Why do you feel the need for 34s or 35s? It's only 1/2" or 1" more ground clearance respectively. Not exactly a deal breaker out on the trails, but that extra inch makes a world of difference in the MJ's wheel wells.
  14. Not that we know of. I guess that then the trans could have been swapped in. It's a direct swap for the 4-speed.
  15. :hmm:
  16. That could work. Or keep an eye on the junkyards. I picked up a nice one in Ohio for my 90 while I was there for something totally different. Any time I'm at a junkyard I ask if they have any Jeeps out back. car-part.com may be helpful in locating MJs. Just pick MJ-specific items like tail lights or rear axle or seats, then call those yards to find out if the headliner is still there.
  17. Front shaft should be fine. Yes, it's the AW-4. Shop us a picture of your leafs. Some guys have thought they had a big ton, but it turned out that the previous owner shoved some random AAL in there.
  18. and that's why I made my own stuff. :D
  19. If you've got the cash to do it, a SYE is still a very good upgrade.
  20. I'll ask Qui Gon-Jinn to look into it.
  21. I seem to remember a couple minor grounds in the engine bay that attach to the fenders. But I might be thinking of another vehicle.
  22. Just don't use the t-case drop kit. It's really only for XJs anyway.
  23. The suspension is the same, but the lower control arm mounts are different (and a real pain to cut off). They have an extra brace on them. Also there's an extra mount holding the transmission crossmember up and the frame is a bit different. These don't really come into play with a short arm lift, but can with a long arm lift.
  24. Claytons makes a good long arm system too. When looking for longarms, it's important to make sure the manufacturer knows about the differences between the XJ and MJ.
