  1. unless you have a swapped-in axle of a different make (i.e. Ford 8.8, D60) yes. Spicer 5-153x (greasable) Spicer 5-785x (non-greasable). I'd opt for the 153x. Jeff
  2. Been having a problem with the coolant temps in the MJ (for about the last year, actually)....it's running too cool. Changed t-stat last year, no difference. Put another new stat in over the weekend, refilled the coolant and ran it to purge the air out.....it came right up to 190-ish, stat opened and it plunged back down to 120-140 and stayed there. If I let it sit and idle, it comes up to about 180, then drops back down to 160-ish and back up. As soon as i start driving it though, it drops like a rock to the first hash mark on the gauge and stays there, even dips under it if I turn the heat on. All t-stats have been Stant 195 deg superstats.....I can't believe I got three bad ones in a row (???) And I've put two different sending units in it too, same results with either. The only thing I can think of, and it's a longshot, but back when I was rebuilding this 4.0 I pulled the welch plugs and noticed a good deal of crud (chunks, actually) built up between the cylinder sleeves. I spent a decent amount of time cleaning out the inside of the block with scrapers/screwdrivers/brushes and a shopvac. Mebbe I should left all that junk in there  I've got a heat gun I'm gonna shoot temps with (again) to confirm the gauge reading, but if it's like last time there won't be any difference. For reference, my rig (and swapped in 4.0) are '87, converted to open cooling system with stock radiator and fan clutch, no electric/aux fan installed. I've only ever seen it hit 210 once, and that was back last summer when I was stuck in traffic and it was about 100 degrees out..... Thoughts? Jeff
  3. HBD Pete  Jeff
  4. I want to say it's right around 43.5" or so, but don't quote me on that. If noone else can confirm, I've got my stock 'shaft down in storage and can go measure it for you. Jeff edit: on second thought, that may be the measurement between the spring perches on the rear axle.....I confuse easily in my old age after about 10 beers or so :D
  5. seller is out of Richmond, VA. I gotta find out who he is....he's got some darn good deals.
  6. that's right in my backyard......wonder who that is :???: Jeff
  7. pwned  Nicely played. I've bought entire vehicles for less than my missus has paid for certain pairs of shoes. And I'm not kidding, either. Jeff
  8. If you're disk-ing it Don, hang onto those drum parts, especially the backing plates. Them sunsabeotches ain't cheap......you might could help out a fellow Jeeper with them. Jeff
  9. If you replaced the rear lines because of a blowout, there's a switch in the prop valve in front of the MC that probably tripped...you may need to reset it. Push down on the pedal, steadily and hard, until you hear a "click". That will be the switch resetting, and the light should go out. Jeff
  10. weenie............ :rotf: Jeff
  11. Needed a new radiator for the TJ, and on a suggestion from NAXJA I checked radiatorbarn.com as well as the local usual places. HOLY FAST SHIPPING BATMAN!!! I ordered a rad from them online yesterday afternoon, around 2 PM....the big brown truck dropped it off a bit after noon today (I took a sick day 'cause I had to rebuild the front driveshaft before it exploded :D ) Kudos to rad barn, if anyone needs a new rad I would highly suggest them. Free shipping and a $5 discount if you order online Jeff
  12. they did....the gearing was a feeble attempt to make up for the lack of OD in the tranny. Many, many moons ago when I first decided to convert mine to 4WD I bought a D30 from a local guy who had an 86 2.5L. I never checked the ratio, just ASSumed it was 4.10  87-89 2.5's got the AW4, not the 904...and came with 4.56's. Jeff
  13. x2. comes in 4x8 sheets and can be had with the reflective aluminum on one side. That's what I used in mine a couple three months ago (foil backed). 2 sheets @ $15/ea and some duct tape to seal the seams. I added them moreso for the summer because my door has a SW exposure and catches sunlight from about 1PM until sunset, but it's working out quite nicely in the cold. My garage stays right about 20-25 degrees above ambient. Of course, the extra insulation I installed whie it was being built helps alot too :D Jeff
  14. Holy Hanna....the dead have risen.... how ya been James? Good to see ya ;) Jeff
  15. I was gonna help her, but...... I was laughing to myself so much I didn't think I could keep a straight face. The register attendant gave her the only thing she could think of, which was an extra winsheild squeegie thingy. Hillarity then ensued :D
  16. I've yet to find one in any junkyard I've been in....not saying they don't exist, but they're kind of a rare bird. Advance Adapters now offers a "kit" to mate the two together. Not cheap, but readily available. Jeff
  17. not to offend, but are you sure that TC has an actual SYE installed, or is it just the newer style case with a (stock) sealed output? If it does indeed have an SYE you'll have to build or have made a new rear driveshaft. If it's just a sealed output you can reuse your existing shaft. Jeff
  18. I swear I'm not making this up. Stopped by the local gas station to pick up the newspaper on my way into work this morning, and noticed a TJ at the pump and a smoking hot blond walking from it toward the door of the station. I hold the door open for her, she goes in and right up to the register as I get my paper. When it's her turn, she asks the attendant if he has anything she can use to get her keys out of her LOCKED Jeep outside.......she says she has the window open but can't reach the keys in the ignition. The TJ had a soft top on it. I giggled as I got in my TJ and drove away. Jeff
  19. they're about 1.5 quarts each, give or take.....I just buy a gallon jug which is usually enough to fill both. Odds are that I have a leftover bottle from a previous change that has a little in it if I need more :D Jeff

    Checking in

I was just askin' about you and where you've been...... Merry Christmas  Jeff
  23. ^^^WTH???????^^^ (I woulda said "WTF" but this is a family place, ya know......) Oh, and cool by the way ;) Jeff
  24. that would be me, but I haven't gotten down to my storage place to verify yet... Sounds like TrailReadyMJ has verified tho  One other small overlooked detail is that the cooling fan is center-mounted on TJ/YJ's whereas MS/XJ's are offset. You'll have to swap all of your MJ front accessories/brackets, including possibly the water pump, to the TJ block to get it all to line up in your MJ. I learned this the hard way swapping an XJ 4.0 into my neighbor's YJ last year. Jeff
