  1. you need an AX15 tranny crossmember, linkage bracket that bolts to the tranny/TC flange, and the link bracket that bolts to the tranny tunnel. All three pieces are specific to the AX15. Jeff
  2. High altitude CPS was Renix-only. The sensor is offset a very small degree, which advances the ignition timing. You can slot the mounting holes on a regular CPS and do the same thing. Jeff

    I am back

I remember this guy from Richmond, used to drive a white MJ......think his name was Gary, or Larry, or something like that :D Haven't seen him in ages, though  Jeff
  4. if you are going 70 mph, you do not need to be in 4WD. Slow down and/or get better tires.
  5. for me (23831) it was $25 per tire, but I bought 5 not 4, so they gave me a discount and waived the freight on the 5th tire. Fed Ex ground, all 5 left SD at the same time. Three days later, FX shows up with one (yes, one) tire late in the evening in the back of a van. The next day, same guy comes back with the other four  Jeff
  6. heh....me too....put the same on my TJ last month. Love them
  7. I've got two very goofy looking toes on my right foot for the rest of my life now, courtesy of "one moment of carelessness" and a TJ half door wearing flip-flops :thwak: woulda, shoulda, coulda....stuff happens so fast it's unbelievable. It's not the obviously incredibly stupid things we consider doing and then the primordial side of our brains kicks in and prevents us from doing, it's the simple little things that almost kill us. Glad you're ok Jim  Jeff
  8. get a late model XJ thermo housing....it's already drilled and tapped for the sensor. Can't say 100% positive, but it should interchange with a 2.5 housing. If not, use lots of RTV..... :rotfl2: Jeff
  9. I love zipping.....wife and I zipped a few months ago down in Antigua across river gorges. Then drank lots of ice cold local beers afterward, "Odwalla" or something like that.... Jeff
  10. hoked on fonics didnt werk for me LOL  yeah Sean, you'll need the flexplate..... Jeff
  11. I probably have a spare rear shaft or two down here that'll work for you if you need one.....gimme a holler if so. You'll need the tranny crossmember as it is AX15-specific, and you'll need to use the TC linkage parts from the donor as well. You can keep your flywheel (it's still Renix up to '91) and clutch assembly too, although it's not a bad idea to replace the clutch while you have it all apart (and the flywheel if needed). Jeff
  12. I don't know and won't comment about recent production (read: Mexico) but I can only relate my experience with the yellow top I have, and it's been good. I bought it used, deader-than-a-doornail, from a club member here about 4 years ago. Charged it with a conventional charger, threw it in and it's been fine since then up until a few months ago like I mentioned. Then I zapped the jesus out of it at a full 12V for 2 days, and it's been fine since. Go figure :dunno:
  13. I run a yellow top in the MJ, which sadly sits 10X more than it actually runs lately......started having "parasitic" loss/slow-no crank about 6 months ago. I'd pop it on the quick charge for a few minutes and it was good to go (until the next time). The last time it happened, I put it on charge and accidentally forgot about it, for two days  Since then, that yellow top hasn't lost a milliamp of charge when it sits. Not recommending that you do this (at least like I did and forget about it, coulda been ugly for me), but you might try a long observed charge on it and see. Jeff
  14. from a quick glance, you could easily mistake the gent in the second pic to be Tom Swatzell.... Image Not Found

    holey carp....... Jeff
  16. truth be told, I'm not a big "Ben" fan.....nor am I a Tomlin fan, either :shake: If I could stomach any team beating the Steelers, it would be the Jets. No, I'd be pizzed, but that club has been soooo close for too many years....they need their due. All in all, it's good to see some different teams (well, 'cept the Steelers LOL) in the finals the last couple of years. Parity has a way of doing that I suppose. Most/all of the final regular season and playoff games have been worth watching, I don't care who ya root for
  17. haters gonna hate......you guys crack me up. Let the NFC bring their best (Bears or Pats, it don't matter) to play the Stillerz in the big game (Rothlesberger notwithstanding  ) My neighbor (Trinidadian) is a retired postal carrier from Brooklyn come-here...he came over to watch the Jets/Pats last weekend and was talking smack to me on my own couch, drinking my dang beer even. It's gonna be a fun weekend...between us we have 4 bottles of Trini rum for the weekend  Jeff edit: I can't resist ;) Many years from now, Tom Brady dies, and goes to heaven. When he gets there, he is greeted by God. God says to him; "Welcome to Heaven. Here is your house. You are very lucky, not many people up here get a house." Tom Brady walks into the small, traditional looking house and sees some Patriots dressings in the house, a lamp here, a towel there... nothing flashy. Tom looks out the window, and sees a neighboring house, a huge mansion with steelers terrible towels in every window! Painted black and gold! Huge flag pole with a steelers flag! Tom asks God; " God, I am not trying to be ungrateful, but I have won many super-bowls, championships, and had such a great QB record... Why does Roethlsberger get a much larger house than I??" God chuckles, and says; "Tom, that's MY house!"
  18. heat is so-so.....I remember it being much hotter back when it was a 2.5L. So hot that I kept the temp lever about 1/2-3/4 toward "hot". If I set it to full "hot", it was too hot inside the cab.
  19. Very intersting.......I may investigate that. Doesn't solve the mystery of why a completely stock cooling system doesn't work, but if it solves the problem temporarily while I can ingest large amounts of beer and think out the cause I can live with that
  20. I played hell getting the housing to seat properly this time around, with the stat "slipping" out of position. Ended up using some silicone to keep it seated whilst I used all three hands I had repositioning the gasket/housing (with serp belt removed). Actually ended up doing it 3X cause it leaked from the bottom bolt the first two times. Turned a 1 hour job into a half a day and made a total mess out of my garage :fs1: I can tell the stat is "working" so to speak, as it cycles from about 180 back down to 140-160 if I let it sit and idle. Maybe I'll pick up a MOPAR unit and see how it does. FWIW, on the last one I drilled a 1/8" hole in the outer ring to help purge air/steam, this time around I didn't. No difference.
  21. every living-breathing fiber in me says "therm-o-stat", but I can't come to terms with that diagnosis..... I'm gonna run it some more and cycle the 'stat, mebbe it just needs to find it's happy place after a few heating/cooling cycles. I dunno :dunno:
  22. unless you have a swapped-in axle of a different make (i.e. Ford 8.8, D60) yes. Spicer 5-153x (greasable) Spicer 5-785x (non-greasable). I'd opt for the 153x. Jeff
  23. Been having a problem with the coolant temps in the MJ (for about the last year, actually)....it's running too cool. Changed t-stat last year, no difference. Put another new stat in over the weekend, refilled the coolant and ran it to purge the air out.....it came right up to 190-ish, stat opened and it plunged back down to 120-140 and stayed there. If I let it sit and idle, it comes up to about 180, then drops back down to 160-ish and back up. As soon as i start driving it though, it drops like a rock to the first hash mark on the gauge and stays there, even dips under it if I turn the heat on. All t-stats have been Stant 195 deg superstats.....I can't believe I got three bad ones in a row (???) And I've put two different sending units in it too, same results with either. The only thing I can think of, and it's a longshot, but back when I was rebuilding this 4.0 I pulled the welch plugs and noticed a good deal of crud (chunks, actually) built up between the cylinder sleeves. I spent a decent amount of time cleaning out the inside of the block with scrapers/screwdrivers/brushes and a shopvac. Mebbe I should left all that junk in there  I've got a heat gun I'm gonna shoot temps with (again) to confirm the gauge reading, but if it's like last time there won't be any difference. For reference, my rig (and swapped in 4.0) are '87, converted to open cooling system with stock radiator and fan clutch, no electric/aux fan installed. I've only ever seen it hit 210 once, and that was back last summer when I was stuck in traffic and it was about 100 degrees out..... Thoughts? Jeff
  24. HBD Pete  Jeff
