  1. Blows mine out of the water mileage-wise.....it's an 02 with 140K on it. I bought it 5 years ago with 58K on it, or I should rather say I stole it off a dealership used lot. Traded my blowed-up TJ and $2K for it.
  2. ^^^yep Here's a visual of how I set mine up (97 cover).

    Thanks!

8 ball shifter knob......I used a cue ball for mine. You are correct, it's no easy task trying to drill a pool ball
  4. Ghost....Glenn??? How the heck are ya buddy! Long time, no talk.
  5. That's bull$#!&.
  6. 1000% of every fiber of my being is begging you to hit that thing with a garden hose and wash all that mung off of it Seeing it out in the open like that, it looks to be in quite fine shape.
  7. I've still been chasing a mystery oil leak on this thing, from the back side of the block. It leaves one little drip every night and it's been driving me insane. But I think I might have finally found the source, way up high on the engine. It's all so packed in there it's hard to get a good look at anything, but the highest point on the engine that's wet underneath is the cam position sensor that is bolted into the back of the head on the driver side. Everything around and under it is covered in a film of oil, so I ordered a new one from AA that will be here tomorrow afternoon. I spent about an hour getting the old one out this afternoon due to the fact that the bolt holding it on was a torx, set at a weird angle. The entire EGR system plumbing is directly in the way of getting it out....why in the heck didn't ford just use a regular hex bolt to fasten it??? I used about every tool I had to finally get that bolt to turn out, and even drew blood on one finger. Rest assured, the new sensor will be going in tomorrow with a hex bolt.
  8. Rear diff speed sensor? How in Hades does that just up and die??? I drive mine by sound and tach on the interstate (and pretty much everywhere else too). About 2300 rpm in O/D on the hi way is right at 70 mph. Around town, I can just feel what's about 35-45 mph.
  9. Next up you can buy some Flexseal, spray the whole bottom of the XJ and float it across the Everglades But seriously, for an "as seen on TV" product, that crap actually works.
  10. There's a backstory to this that I'm not privy to, but I think I can figure it out. Lol.
  11. Gonna have to put a new throw out/slave in it.....its been grumbling when cold and is now sounding like a can of marbles even when warned up. It's still shifting fine, but it's not gonna get better, only worse. I'd rather replace it now before it craps the bed completely. Looking at utube videos, seems like a mildly pain-in-the-azz job, yay. ill need to put the KJ back into daily service for a few days while I fix it. Probably over next weekend. 175K miles on all the originals....I can't really complain too much lol. I'll throw a new clutch in it while I have it all apart too.
  12. ^yes, I've you've taken care of the CAD fork cap them all off and never worry about them ever again.
  13. The whole pedal assembly is a one piece deal. Best bet is junkyard to replace the whole thing. If the weld broke on the pedal arm, or at the pivot, it can be repaired.
  14. I agree with most of the above, but there may be another part to the story. I've been driving past an old 2WD S-10 pickup that's been sitting at the edge of a guy's property for going on 2 years now. It's never had a for sale sign on it, but he's sold other vehicles and always parks them in the same area when he does (his house sits back on the property, surrounded by privacy hedges, and you would never see a vehicle parked back there anyway). I wouldn't mind picking up that S-10 just to have as a beater pickup, especially with springtime coming but I have no idea what he's doing with it other than just letting it sit there and slowly wither away. I'd like to approach him and ask but have only ever seen him out near the road once and I couldn't stop then to talk to him. I'd so love to drive up to his house and knock or at worst leave a note on the windshield with my number but feel kinda weird about doing either. Who knows, he might have no intention of ever selling it....the last inspection sticker on the windshield is from 2018, so I know it's not being driven anywhere. I might just wait until the next time he has a different vehicle for sale out there and then approach him about it, then ask about the truck.
  15. I was thinking something along the audio lines.....my guess was some part of a CD reader head or similar. LOL.
  16. I've got about 10 more years of playing grown up planned, then it's flip-flops and pop tops on the regular from then on. My goal is to retire at 60.....THEN all the fun starts. Lol.
  17. My wife's is close, February 27th. She just hit the big 5-0 this year and is really bummed out. Mine is next month (50 also), and IDGAF. Let's party
  18. Cool, thanks. All this whiz bang computertry crap has got my front end geometry AFU. I need to go old skool and fix it, I think. <<insert old man Simpson emoji here....old guy cursing at the clouds>>
  19. Sweet. How much toe did you set over factory? Mine always used to track straight as an arrow until a few years ago I got new tires on it and got a "lifetime" alignment from the shop. Ever since then it slowly tracks to the right, to the point it annoys me. I've taken it back there 3X and each time they said they tweaked it a bit and it's fixed. It is not fixed. I don't have any unusual tire wear, but rotate them every third oil change (about every 10K miles, give or take....). I just want the thing to stay pointed straight when I'm on the interstate. I might just fiddle with it myself if I can.
  20. I've not been pulled for tint (all my stuff meets the laws here in VA), but my buddy has. He was even a career firefighter with the county, and had his FD plate on the car......not that I agree with "professional courtesy" in most cases, but holy heck. Not like he was trying to rob a bank or anything. I did get pulled in the KJ for having a clear plastic license plate cover on both of my tags (front and rear here in VA). County cop said it was a Code violation, but eventually only gave me a warning with 24 hours to get them removed (which I did). I didn't believe him about the Code thing, so I looked it up and he was actually correct....we can't have ANYTHING covering our tags here. I can understand those really dark tinted ones where you can't see the tag numbers, but mine were CLEAR. I just got new Gadsden flag plates and didn't want to get bug guts and rock chips all over them, so I just bought the new covers a couple days prior. Ended up being a waste of $20 for me Sorry, thread hijack over.
  21. For $20 I'da been on that like a fat kid on a candy bar. And I don't even own an XJ.
  22. #woodenbumpersrule I rocked one on my MJ too for a little while. Even spray painted it black to make it look factory. It actually passed VA safety inspection one year, lol.
  23. Just make sure you guys check your local (state) laws on allowable tint percentages and other restrictions. They vary substantially, including the size/area of the windshield. Most use the AS-1 line or a measurement equal to it, but some allow full tinting. Here's a good guide for all the states: https://www.raynofilm.com/blog/automotive-window-tint-laws-by-state Agree or disagree with the laws, they are the laws. And a really good excuse for PD to pull you over and invite themselves to a secondary search. Just like license plate covers here in VA.....don't get me started on that. Jeff
  24. You should have enough spare KJ parts to build one from scratch Ive got to do auto-trans service on mine, I'm about 15k overdue. I had the dealership do it way back when for about $200, and came to find out they just did an elcheapo fluid flush of sorts. Not paying that again....my trans pan gasket is leaking a tiny bit, plus the pan itself has some rust spots on it (the only rust on the whole vehicle, go figure). I'm gonna buy a new pan with a drain plug in it, a lubelocker gasket, and a new set of filters (45RFE has 2 filters, one is a regular flat filter plus it also has a spin-on canister filter). I'll replace the pan and filters, then drain the pan a couple times over a few months of driving so all of the fluid will eventually get replaced.

    Beer

Yikes....Yuengling. That's just one beer I can't get down. Well, not really, I can quaff a Light Lager but it has to be in a very cold bottle. I get the joy of going up to Philly for Easter in a couple weeks to stay/visit with my wife's aunt/uncle. Uncle Barry is 83 years old, and can damn near match me beer for beer all day long but all he drinks is Yuengling.
