Check out the Yahoo Groups Stroker forum. There's been an ongoing discussion the last couple of weeks regarding stroking the 2.5; apparently many on the forum have done it, but I have no idea why  . Might give you some ideas.
-
Sure is. I'm not crazy about that, but am very interested in the front clip treatment. Come on, who is the builder/owner of this super looking rig??
-
Anyone know who is the owner of this rig? Love the updated front end. Image Not Found

ZJ "mini" overhead console
HOrnbrod replied to Car RamRod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, this was my post originally. I did have one of these ZJ overhead consoles w. ambient temp and map lights from a 95. It is self contained; all you need to add is IGN and constant power, ground, and the temp sensor, and will work fine in an MJ size-wise. I decided to go a different route by building in a Benz ambient temp display in my existing clock, and adding an auto dimming mirror w. map lights. But since I've found another overhead console even smaller w. Homelink, sunroof switch, and more lights. So I'm getting all the stuff I need to get this functional, including the sunroof. -
I'd rate it about a 1 Bob. :D 20 minutes max. While I replaced mine I pulled out the cross member and cleaned out the 3" of crud packed in there, so it took about 30 minutes.

It's in the Engine Service Procedures section, under Engine Rear Mount.

:dunno:

Won't work on Renix 4.0L. I'm trying to get someone to try it with the 84-86 2.8L V6 to see if the statement I cut and pasted originally is true for these models.

Yeah Dirty, but just think that when you finally have some time off, you can spend all those newly earned CADs on your rigs.

How do you check gear ratios?
HOrnbrod replied to onebigmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
41-9 = 41/9 = 4.56 ratio (41 teeth on the ring gear, 9 on the pinion) -
I think hes doing it using the key cylinder. You have to turn the lock cylinder a certain way and the check engine light will flash a different number of times to give the code. Not sure what year you have but this is from hornbrod: Reading Computer Codes On 1991 to1997 models ( 1984 to 1986 V6 models as well as 1998 to 2002 follow ) you have a way of reading for fault codes which can be accessed without any scanners like other models by reading how the check engine light flashes. Start by turning the ignition key to the last stop before it starts, on and off three times within 5 seconds ending in the on position on the third time, ( i.e. on, off, on, off then on and hold ). The check engine light will start to flash quickly with a small pause in between then a medium pause to indicate the next number in the to digit number and then a long pause before the next set of flashing for the next code. If all is well you will get a code 55 which would read like this: 5 fast flashes, medium pause then a further 5 flashes. This is how all codes end with is this 55 code if you have air conditioning or with a code 33 without and any other codes would have been before it separated by a long pause. The codes will remain after this test so you can cycle through it as many times as it takes to read them. After a problem has gone the code will be removed after 50 on off key cycles or if the battery left disconnected over night which will cause a code 12 though. On this statement is says: "1984 to 1986 V6 models as well". Has anyone actually verified that this works on the 2.8L LR2 GM engines found in 86 MJs and 84-86 XJs? I've never tried it.

While we're on the subject of Oil Filters...
HOrnbrod replied to Carl'sMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did quite a bit of searching for a good price on Brad Penn Racing oil. The 10w-30 has 1,500 ppm zinc. I finally found a place in NC that sold me a case of it for 39.49 plus 10.74 to UPS it to my door here in Massachusetts. That works out 4.18 per quart and I don't even have to drive to the store. I have read nothing but good about this oil................yet. http://kennedyoilco.com/ I've used Brad Penn in the past and it's excellent oil, but lately I've been using Chevron Delo 400LE 10W-40. It's 1,300 ppm zinc, and the consensus ideal (on the stroker forum) is 1200-1300 ppm. Plus it's available here locally and is less than half the cost of the Brad Penn. -
Ghostie?? The truck's probably pissed off..........

pressure carburetor????
HOrnbrod replied to Beachbum1236's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sure is. Your friend probably got the "pressure carburetor" terminology from the pressure regulator package under the injector in the TB. -
well, at this point people pretty much tell me where they are. i started out by doing what my parents do, LOOK when i'm driving. then, some people who had them had noticed others and redirected me to other ones... i know a bunch of junkyard owners (alot of them are family friends as well) and that gives me a good deal. i also actively search. it may seem like I have a radar for them...i'm starting to believe it too. i have another one coming my way next thursday or friday...89 2.5 4 speed 2wd shortbed, rusty but driving. i've gotten alot of 4 cylinders lately.... I guess some areas of WI are like country S. Alabama. The more derelict wrecks on your property, the wealthier your neighbors think you are.

Automatic to Standard, 2x4 to 4x4
HOrnbrod replied to a34upw's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Likewise on my 91. I think this was SOP from 87 on. -
Yeah, I get it a lot. Guys come out when I stop somewhere and say "Damn, I used to have one of those (or my father had one of those) but I (he) wrecked it." That's happened many times. Even today I was headed north toward Huntsville cruisin' along about 65 when I spotted an red MJ coming up fast behind me. Then we hit a long grade about 1/4 mile long, and I cranked my rig up to 80 and saw him fall back like a stone. Got to the top and pulled over, and he comes huffin' and puffin' up the hill, pulls in and screams "Dayem! WTF you got in that thing?" :D He had a real nice 89 SWB w. the 2.5L and AW-4. Original owner too. I told him about the ComancheClub, Hesco, etc. We may have a new member soon.......

Not sure where in 'Bama you are (Ft Payne?) but don't waste your time with this guy. There's a yard in Brownsboro, just north of Huntsville, that has at least 30 MJs and countless XJs. They never crush 'em because most of the guys there drive one or the other. Most of the time their prices are very reasonable. Web site is below, ask for Jason: http://www.completeautorecyclers.com/

Yes Pete, as 99% of us know, there is a difference in the rooflines. I have reason to believe the one I have from Jeepco is off of an XJ, as it has a slight downward slope to it, as can be seen in the pics; whereas hornbrod's looks more straight out off of the roofline. haha. it's from an MJ...i pulled it off of one that was from the dealer with a visor ;) Chryco/AMC never made these visors; they were aftermarket and a dealer installed option. I bought my Lund new in the box from a vendor who went belly-up, and it had the MJ part number. I don't know if there were other vendors, but if there were, they are probably long gone by now. You can see here that the MJs and XJs had different part numbers: http://auto-trim.com/moonvisors.shtml

Damn, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. :D Although I tend to agree with most of what you are saying. The key to buying parts in these places is to do your homework BEFORE you walk in, check their web sites, decide on exactly which part/brand you want as they usually offer several brands and p/n's to chose from, make an informed decision, then do your thing. If you depend on the non-informed parts drone to decide what's best for you in these places, including the dealership, you're the one who doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground and you deserve whatever they sell you.

It's not the ignition switch, speakers, etc. Turn on the key w. the radio removed and check the following pins on the radio harness plug (if it's still there): Pin 4 (Pink): 12V constant Pin 5 (Vio/Wht): Ignition Switched 12V Ground attached to a lug on the chassis

I believe it would have been a draw if not for that one knockdown the Pacman scored. Pacquio has beaten all the best Mexican fighters in his class now, time to move up in weight. But I'm sure there will be a rematch with Marquez. He sure deserves it.
