the MJ Registry can now be found in the DIY forum
HOrnbrod replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
Wasn't there a clickable map link on the old Yahoo group CC where any MJ owner could enter the location and details of their vehicle(s)? I have a single live brain cell that remembers this....................... -
Yep - missed the D30 mention. BUT I do think the D30 and D35 use the same crush sleeves. :hmm:

Ebay rear slider's CL Laurent tri-vent.

Don't blame the missing options on your Laredo model entirely on the PO. An old guy in town here has an 88 Laredo he ordered new from our local dealer. It's got all the Laredo exterior body ornamentation, but all he wanted with it was a 4:10 D44, towing package, and an AW4. That's all he has on the truck, with the exception of the 6-gauge cluster. Even has a bench seat w. a column shift. He special ordered it for towing classic vehicles from all over the country, most of which are still setting unfinished on his property. There's no tilt, not cruise, no power options, no A/C, no nothing except what he wanted. I also verified this with the local dealer. Took him four months to get it. You could order basically any trim package with any options you wanted back then. I've been bugging him for the D44 every couple of months or so since it's been on blocks for about five years now, but the old bastid won't sell anything he has. -
Hey Corry, as you know well, nothing's written in stone with these Jeep things. :D

When you get your console, also pull the plastic air diffuser piece between the console and the dash or you'll have a 1" or so air gap.

:agree: You gotta ID what you have before the advice can flow. Here's how: Jeep heads are identified by a casting number on top of the head above the #4 exhaust port, on the manifold side. Year............Casting No 1987-90......2686 1991-95......7120 1996-98......0630 1999-06......0331 Blocks Year..... Casting No 1987-90 53005535 1991-95 53008405 1996-98 53020569 1997-?? 53010341 1999-04 53010449 Additional code info on dating blocks. This code is on the block below the spark plug holes. Example 401MX12 * 4 = Year (1994) * 01 = Month (January) * MX = Engine Type/Fuel System/Compression Ratio (MX is a 243 CID, multi-port fuel injection system with 8.8:1 ratio * 12 = Day of month of engine build

Speaking from the vast experience :D I got when I tried to regear my D35C (w. new crush sleeve), I could never crush the sucker. Tried the 3' cheater bar and in desperation an impact gun supposedly good up to 500 ft.lbs. Never did crush. Ended up reusing the old crushed crush sleeve and had low speed vibes because the preload was never right. Ended up getting it regeared by a pro a couple of years later. If you have an option of using a crush sleeve eliminator w. the 8.8, that's the course of action I'd take. I understand shims and torque, but do not understand crush sleeves. They suck.

Drivetrain noise after trying to pull tree stump

I just clean up both mating surfaces up real well and use hi-temp RTV. No leaks yet. -
Drivetrain noise after trying to pull tree stump

Happened to me on an XJ - it was the spider gears in the diff. Much worse coasting down a hill than with a load on the diff. Pull the diff cover and take a peek- it will probably be obvious - hopefully. -

Yeah I noticed. Looks like he might have busted an axle going over a 4" high speed bump or something. I kind of like it too. If it has a removable top, it would look even better IMHO with a Scrambler look; a little p/u bed over the rear wheels. -

HOrnbrod replied to case5412's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Everything regarding the fuel system (tank, filler, lines) is different from the cab on back. The frames on course are completely different. The rear shock mounts are different. Driveshafts, brake lines/cables, etc. are different. About the only compatible parts aft of the cab are the tailgate, diff/brake drums, leaf springs, fender flares, and fuel filler door. Probably forgot some too........ -

Celts win the East! Now that the rest of the East riff-raff is history, we'll have to wait a bit to see who'll prevail out West. While there is no team in any sport I hate more than the LA Lakers, they will most likely beat Phoenix and win the West, then we'll have a good old-fashioned rock and roll playoff series again like back in the days of Larry and Magic, and Bill and Wilt. Celts will win in seven, and Paul Pierce will be the MVP of the series. The Celts are a better overall team in all phases of the game, especially defensively. You kill Coby-who and you kill LA. :rotfl2:

Looking to install new Shocks...help
HOrnbrod replied to mikeviera's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sounds like you need part numbers, not BS. :D For OME shocks, as follows: Front w. 1"-3" lift: OME N35 (firm) or N35C (Comfort) (15.25"-23.75"). Rear w. 1"-3" lift: OME N40L (15.6"-25.8") (Actually a ZJ shock, bar pin needs to be pressed out). -

:clapping: Probably the best example of malapropism is ex-Pres George W. Bush. Some examples: "Oftentimes, we live in a processed world, you know, people focus on the process and not results." "The law I sign today directs new funds... to the task of collecting vital intelligence... on weapons of mass production." "It will take time to restore chaos and order." "They have miscalculated me as a leader." "Natural gas is hemispheric... because it is a product that we can find in our neighborhoods." "I am mindful not only of preserving executive powers for myself, but for predecessors as well." "We need an energy bill that encourages consumption." "We are making steadfast progress." What an idiot.........

Yes, there is nowhere in IN (or any of the other lower 48) remote enough that you can't call out with a cell phone using the proper carrier. Possible dead spots yes, but you can usually walk out of them. And nowadays and the convergence on the CONUS cullular is decreasing daily. But saying that, I think it's okay to have a mobile Ham in your vehicle if you're into it big time. Who knows when you have to contact your Ham buddy in Albania or elsewhere?

Eliminator Sticker Measurement?
HOrnbrod replied to over2land's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm kind of like Fiat and Joe - a chicken, but for a different reason. In order to put the Elim decals on, I have to pull off the red vinyl swoop thing already there and I'm chicken to see if there is any paint fade. The decal has been on the truck since 03 when it was last repainted, but it has always been garaged and I'm thinkin' it should be okay, but ?? What y'all body shop guys think? I'm really wanting to put these Elim decals on. -
