Electric Cooling Fan
HOrnbrod replied to Old man with MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, same. If you use one from a 97 and up XJ you to solder on the connector from the old fan. -
Different scenerio, but had a similar problem with the rear axle bearings on a motorcycle. The bearing was pressed and bottomed out into a blind hole - no way to get a puller behind it. It had desintegrated and all that remained was the outer shell of the bearing. It got it out using a Dremel with a tiny wheel on it, cutting through the shell being very careful not to cut into the hub. Once it split, it came right out.

No. Yes, same for all the XJ years.

Electric Cooling Fan

It's over on NAXJA. A manufacturer who sells boatloads of custom three-fan assemblies for XJs using similar fans as yours did real world CFM flow testing tests against the two 97+ fan configuration. All three of his fans' CFM were considerable less than the CFM flow of two of the stock fans. But the amp draw of the two stock fans was more than his three fans, so he used that fact as a selling point. I'll see if I can find it.......... -
Looks like Detroit will have to wait a bit more to see who (whom?) they will be playing. Top of the 8th, 5-0 San Fran.

Dana 44 Limited Slip Options.
HOrnbrod replied to chopper35nj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a Trak Loc carrier in my MJ D44 from a Honda Passport. As long as the carrier comes from a 30-spline axle Dana 44, be it from a Honda, Jaguar, Isuzu, or whatever, they are all the same. If you get one from a junkyard be sure to replace the clutch packs as you don't know it's history and they are usually shot anyhow. There are two Trak Loc carrier flavors depending on which R&P gear set you use. The Dana part number for 3.07-3.73 gears is 73613. For 3.92 & up gears, the p/n is 73854. This is stamped on the case. Since my Honda carrier was for 3.07-3.73 gears and I wanted 4.10 gears, I just bought "thick" cut 4.10 gears so I could use the numerically lower ratio Trak Loc carrier. -

The 97+ 10-blade aux fan moves a proven 1300CFM @ 9A. Just curious as to how you determined the ~around~ 1200CFM and the amp draw for this fan? Also, which size fan did you use in the stock aux fan shroud? EDIT: Just looked at the advertised specs on the site you posted. 4A @ 1250 CFM. Industry rule of thumb for automotive fan CFM is 1A Draw = 100-150 CFM. Best this fan can do is maybe 600 CFM. Offshore fan manufacturers are well known for inflating specs on their products. No way this fan can pull 1200 CFM. -
Well Pete, the Cards beat up the Giants 8-3 tonight to go up 3-1. No way I see the Giants coming back, and it should be all settled up tomorrow for a Tigers / Cards World Serious. Both teams are peaking at the right time and are playing well and it should be a hell of a Series.

The motor bearings are probably shot, they are sealed so oiling won't help. New fan motors are still available, but for what you pay for one, you are better off getting the whole fan assemble/module replacement from the JY. The aftermarket ones are pretty decent, but get one from the 97 and up XJs as they put out a lot more air (10 blades). The factory p/n is 52028337AC. You'll have to cut off the connector though and reuse your old one if you go this route. http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-01-Jeep-Cherokee-AC-Condenser-Cooling-Fan-6-cyl-/360240001878?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53dffa3356&vxp=mtr -
Now Pete, let's not get carried away. But Detroit is sure making this series look uber easy.

Do a search over at NAXJA. Several members have swapped in 91 and up Nippon Denso alternators from XJs into Renix vehicles using the HO bracketry and an external voltage regulator.

While semi impressive of course, as you say mountainman, it's not hard with today's technology and it's commonplace. The tricky (read super expensive) part is building a four cylinder engine to last for a 500 miler and dominate for decades, with all the pit stops, accidents, etc. involved was reliability. Only the Offenheiser-Miller engine ever did that. They were killed by technology as all things eventually are. The V8 Ford Cosworth engine that eventually became it's equal in endurance but had 33% more HP took control in the early 70's. I was fortunate enough to attend a few Indy 500s back in the day, and the scream of an Offy at full RPM is something I'll never forget.
-
They just don't list them for Jeeps specifically but they are there. The 270A alt. for the Dodge Ram 5.2L V8 and other Mopars with the 5.2L V8 (including the Grand Cherokees) works just fine in the 91 and 92 HOs. I'm using one (but not the monster 270A version).
-
And what a show it was. 4-banger Offys dominated Indy car racing for thirty ears up to the mid-70's or so. 2.5L-2.6L putting out almost 1000HP, supercharged and super-reliable. And the sound they made screaming by was like nothing else. Hmm. I wonder how an Offy engine dumbed down to a streetable level of 400-500HP or so would fare in an MJ. It would weigh less than the 4.0 engine too. Might have to beef up the AW4 a bit though.............

Looks like dayem good inspiration to me.

Very little snowfall here normally, but I'm hoping we get some this year. The new limited slip D44 works mucho bueno on the local mud roads, and would love to try it out in some real snow with the M&S tires.

4.0 Ho Intake On Renix Block
HOrnbrod replied to buffalob's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why do you need another O2 bung for wideban (sic)? You planning on converting to an OBDII system? Unless you are you only need one O2 sensor bung on the header. -
No you don't. If it's not an issue to Mama, there are no issues.
-
Good news. Were you able to determine the correct part number from the stamping? Would be nice to know for the next guy.
-
Perhaps. Certain 50's-early 70's Ford and Chevy pickups are fetching good $$ now, so maybe some special MJ models (Eliminators, Laredos, etc.) might be worth something substantial in forty years or so. Better park it until then though.
