  3. Damn she is lookin' great mate. I love those nutserts too; use them for mounting just about everything. What are your cooling system plans for that monster motor Coffman? Also, what kind of emissions regs/testing do you have in Tasmania?
  4. Starting in 91, the odo/trip meter assembly was enclosed in a "tamper proof" housing. I have tried to tamper when I was calibrating cluster gauges; it's a no go except if you want to destroy it. It's not like the Renix assembly that was easy to swap. Your options are a new HO cluster close to your actual mileage, or a speedo swap from a 91-96 cluster. Either way you have to pull the cluster.
  5. Wow! Impressive. He would pack the fans in for sure. Before the Cowboys even think of Johnny, they better address their offensive line, si?
  6. Same here. I don't get it why there are so many problems. They are always tinkering with the layout, but it doesn't take long to figure it out.
  7. Jim a Jeep herder as compared to a Comanche fan? I can't wait to see what Jim says about this............
  8. Perhaps one of the most important things that should be pointed out is that the majority of available MJs are 86-90 Renix system due to production numbers vs. the less available OBD1 91-92 HO years. Parts availability for both are drying up, but much more for the more vintage Renix models. Pluses and minuses for both versions should be spelled out clearly.
  9. I still think it's putrid. It looks like a Hyundai Santa Fe and all the rest of them. The legendary Jeep slotted grille on a body style like that looks ridiculous. It's a betrayal. With that said, Chrysler will probably sell millions of them.
  10. My cable setup is identical except for the painted marine battery terminals and the wire loom on the new mains cables. Good ideas both. Do you remember the wire loom size you used?
  11. Sounds like you might have the Renix "floating" ground problem. I had a similar problem with my 91 HO. The meter sensing + lead was tied to the PDC (Power Distribution Center) lug. A set of Jon Kelly's mains cables included a much larger positive cable from the battery to the PDC and cured the spastic voltmeter sensing problem with mine. Frome his site: http://www.geocities.com/JeepI6Power/faq.html RENIX FAQs Since RENIX carries its own set of oddities, I thought it deserved its own section of the FAQ page. So, here are questions I've gotten so far... R1] You've got two "optional" mains cables listed for 1987-1990XJ and MJ - what are those? Those are "optional" for a reason - not everyone will need them. How do you know if you do? Keep reading... R2] What's this "chassis ground" for? I don't know why AMC neglected this one, but it was an actual good idea from when ChryCo engineers started revising things! On RENIX, the chassis is grounded through the engine block - by way of the ground strap from the firewall to the cylinder head, and then through the cable from the engine block to the battery. This can be fraught with failures - and this is the reason that the firewall ground strap is known as "The RENIX Killer." Installing this additional ground provides a more direct ground path for the chassis - which is important, because this is also the primary ground for the Engine Control Unit and for some key electrics! This is a ground I'd suggest everyone add as part of a mains installation - it can't hurt, and it's very likely to help! R3] How about this "alternator case ground?" If you've got a RENIX rig, the engine is grounded toward the rear. The alternator is mounted up front. This is a relatively long ground path for high current output, and could cause you trouble (even with a stock alternator - I've seen it happen!) Since RENIX uses a Delco CS-130 alternator, there is provision for a direct ground (which is not easily done with the later ND alternator - but the engine ground is closer.) If you've upgraded past, say, 140A - this ground is a good idea. If you've noted "floating output" at cruise or part-throttle without changing the electrical load, you're also a likely candidate for a "floating ground" that this cable can correct. There is a cast boss on the back of the alternator case that has been drilled and tapped to accept an M8-1.25 screw. If you order the alternator ground for RENIX, I'll provide the screw as well - you fix one end of the cable to the alternator with the screw provided, and the other end goes directly to the battery - terminal. So much for the floating ground...
  12. Most likely your problem is the packed in factory dielectric grease in the sockets. This stuff congeals and hardens over the years and makes for spotty conductivity between the bulb and socket pins and bodies. Get a couple of spray cans of good electrical contact cleaner and Q-tips and clean all that crap out of the sockets. This should get them operating normally again. If not, I have several sets complete MJ sets if you find yours are damaged or cracked.
  13. :rotfl2: You'll get it right Alex.
  14. Anyone have a how to or tips to get that damn pin out? I got mine out by using a hardened small finishing nail. Use a bench grinder to grind down the nail point on four sides like a tiny easy-out with a point. Tap it into the roll pin as far as possible, then twist and pull it out with pliars and the roll pin should come out with it. It may take a couple or three tries, but it comes out eventually.
  15. Great quality build Alexia. You exemplify the DIY spirit perhaps better than anyone else; mechanicals, body, paint, and now even upholstery. And you are also one hell of a system administrator for our forum too. Thanks for all you do bro.
  16. XJs are mostly all rotted out up there Eagle. Still available down here, but the price is rising....
  17. Everybody has "halves" of these seat lever bezels since they all break eventually if you tighten the mounting screws too tight or they get brittle and crack with age. It was a stupid engineering design. Even if you can find one that is not split in half, the major trick is to remove the lever knob drift pin so you can remove the bezel then reinstall it. It's not fun, but doable.
  18. Except for the steering gear. As far as I can tell, the OP doesn't know where his leak is yet.
  19. That is a good product. It fixed a couple of Pitman shaft leaks for me too.
  20. I did the same to tiewrap and hide the yellow harness wrap so you couldn't see it through the grille.

    Seat Covers

Ouch! You must be close to Taxachusetts. Cost me less than $200 down here. The bench is long gone and I have the same buckets now as you have. I found a NOS pair of factory seat covers on Ebay; no pics, the seller didn't know what they fit, but he posted the Mopar part numbers. I crossed the numbers and they were for the gray XJ Laredo buckets. Got them for $40/seat, and I was the only bidder. Miracles do happen. But not often.

These are on a friend's MJ. The pic was taken immediately after he installed them. They look 100% better now and there are no more wrinkles as they have tightened and settled in. Unfortunately I have no current pics. He loves them. Seatcovers will never fit like the original upholstery, but the Wet Okole covers come closer than any other cover I know of. When I bought my MJ the bench seat was in rough shape. The cloth was all torn up, but the vinyl was still pretty good. I pulled the seat and back original covers off and brought them to a local upholstery shop. They replaced the fabric with rolled and pleated and reused the original vinyl. It came out pretty well and was inexpensive. Any good upholstery shop can duplicate the original covers or make them any way you want - they use the original covers as a pattern and it saves them time and money. Just another option.........

  24. ^^ This. I'd like to see Peyton win another Super Bowl so he can catch up to his little brother.
  25. Yep, well said. Catch 22 for Dallas. At least Jerry built one of the better stadiums in the NFL. I'm a Giants fan. I can't even imagine what shakeups are in store for that organization.
