  1. 87-91 models with an engine coolant temp gauge all use the same sender, p/n 53005309. Also the temp gauges themselves are interchangeable between the 87-91 clusters.
  2. What color is the case? Blue or white?
  3. One good thing (and probably the only one) about early 91-95 XJ's w. ABS is that the front u-joints were bigger.
  4. What year is it? It looks great! Which Ford engine does it have?
  5. Look at the diagram above. Floor shifters have two cables; one for shifting gears that goes to the transmission, and a shift PARK interlock cable that goes to the steering column. Part numbers for the two cables are also on the diagram. Your mechanic is right, return the cable you bought. The p/n for the floor gear shift cable you need is 52077532. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Transmission_and_Transfer_Case/Transmission_Automatic_Shifter_Adjustments.htm
  6. I am. It's always nice to look at exotics that you'll never own, or even drive. This is about as close to an "exotic" as it gets in 'Bama:
  7. IIRC, that has come up before. There is some question that this truck is a regulation "Street Comanche" or a copy. I don't remember the outcome.
  8. Yes, some west coast dealer built about 150 of them. Someone will probably chime in with the specifics.
  9. Haven't we seen this before? Up to $10K now............ http://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/cto/5549273734.html
  10. The column shift cable is 57" (end-to-end), just measured my spare. It's also advertised at 57". Not sure on the floor cable though.............
  11. Most any XJ/MJ 2.5 you will find for cheap in your neck of the woods will be high mileage, maintenance intensive, and have terminal rottus maximus. If you find a nice one with low mileage, the price will be high and it's cost will be on a par with the 4.0's. For a few more MPG it doesn't make good economic sense to get another old Jeep 2.5 even if you could find one. I don't know how long your high commute jobs coming up will be, but it would make more sense to me to swallow your Jeep pride and pick up a 10-15 year old Toyota, Nissan, or even a Suzuki commuter. Good used Suzuki's are going for next to nothing now since they stopped importing them, and they run forever. Plus the mileage and reliability will blow any Jeep 2.5 away for a whole lot less $$ overall.
  12. My old bench seat. The vinyl was still decent so I just had a local shop replace the fabric with some custom cloth. Came out well and didn't cost much.
  13. 1968 Chevrolet Corvair 4 speed 140 hp engine. First new car I purchased was a 69 Corvair. Very cool! Pics when you can.
  14. 57" is the exact length for the column gear shift cable. I'm not positive, but I think the gear shift cable for the floor shift (#11) is considerably shorter.
  15. What did ya buy John?
  16. The bigger heavier door that uses the same hardware as the 4-DR XJ has a lot to do with the stress cracks.
  17. They call it a reinforcement plate - probably because it helps keep the flexplate from cracking? Good you spotted it........
  18. Only the one that's on my AW4 Charlie - sorry. But it looks like they are cheaply available at several places. Mopar J3214094. Curious - what happened to yours?
  19. This? http://www.nolimit4x4.com/jeep-automatic-flywheel-reinforcing-plate-j3214094-clutch-flywheel-reinforcing-plates/ http://www.4wd.com/Jeep-Drivetrain-Jeep-Axles-Differentials/Automatic-Flywheel-Reinforcing-Plate.aspx?t_c=12&t_s=511&t_pt=101409&t_pn=JEPJ3214094
  20. Exactly. When I did my lift, I had to get a new shaft made. I got the correct length by disconnecting the pinion end of the shaft, inserting the slip yoke into the transmission (or tcase) until the wear mark on the yoke shaft lined up to the seal, then measured the distance at the pinion end I'd need to seat the u-joint cups into the pinion yoke. It turned out to be 1-1/8". I added this distance to the front u-joint-cap-center to the rear u-joint-cap-center distance, and gave this total distance to the shop that made up the new shaft. Then transferred the original slip yoke over to the new shaft.
  21. Si - rare bird. Keep it at your parent's house until you can get to it. :)
