2 years of service should be mandatory for every high school graduate... Take a lesson from one of our few allies, Israel.

1989 Comanche 4x4 conversion
AeroNautical replied to JeepUtah's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Did it to mine as well, it's a great learning experience. Do yourself a favor, pick up a haynes manual, make sure you've got a decent tool box, jacks, stands, and an always on computer permanently connected to CC.- 4 replies

Alright, bringing an old post back to life. I'm adding a helper, had a question about this: Not enough clearance inside the pack brackets to add a leaf, what are your recommendations?

Anyone seen this snorkle?

Signed the paper January 8th, shipped February 14th. Best valentines day ever. This was a few years ago, so I doubt much has changed. shelbyluvv hit it on the head, he's wanting to get his numbers up at a specific time.

Yep, just did her final oil change with a heavy additive that's supposed to improve compression by rehydrating the piston rings or something. Hopefully I'll burn a little less oil with it until I get my next powerplant.
-
Really? Do it just to do it? Why? I had a similiar experience a little while ago. It happened in my driveway. Someone attempted to remove my JKS sway bar disconnects, pulled the pins and unscrewed one side before, I'm guessing, being scared off. Also kicked in my passenger side fender to the point where the flare broke free, ripped my passenger side rain gutter off and threw it in the yard. The next few weeks after that I checked my brake lines, tires and gas cap before every drive. I think if I had caught him coming back, I'd of shot him.

Yeah, i'd heard the air box placement was bad, it's one of the first things in the engine bay to submerge. Is the 4.2 the same as a 4.0, just a larger displacement?
-
Months ago I did something stupid and hydrolocked my engine. Rymanrph was there to record it all, he could tell the story better than I could. I knew once we got it running again on the trail that I was on borrowed time with the ol 4.0. Well, the time has come. I'm burning a quart of oil every few hundred miles, don't need to do a compression test to know the cylinder walls are scored to hell from the muddy water that filled em. I'm on the look out for a functional, preferably Renix 4.0. Junkyard would be a last resort, because I know many of you probably have a couple collecting dust. I'm posting this in the Pub because I'm not quite ready to jump on a purchase yet, but I suppose it's more to share your stories about required engine swaps. And to tell me the MJ "ain't a gosh dang submarine".

This may be old, but... give this man a medal.

Brings new meaning to the term "open diff", haha. -
While we wait for cruiser to chime in, I'd say if the option is available, and your willing to do the work, go for HO. OBD2, all the benefits you list, easier to find parts for, that whopping 8HP over the renix. I love my renix to death, but at the same time it's killing me. Granted it's my fault after I hydrolocked it, but damn if it's not one thing it's another.

I've got a 99 D30 from an XJ, it's a direct bolt on. The steering is no better, you can still use your springs and shocks, the brakes are better in my opinion because you can remove the rotor after removing the caliper without any extra wrenching. I've also done the perch reweld on a 29 spline 8.25, soa. Any questions regarding either, me and plenty of people on here can surely help.

Oh yeah, for sure. I know atleast 4 right now that'd go in a heartbeat.

Got one in good shape as well, minus the chipping camo paint. About 2 hours halfway, worth it to me just to meet ya, probably not worth it to you with so many others closer.

Hmm.... mid engine Comanche... Plenty of room back there

Anyone seen this snorkle?
AeroNautical replied to wombat's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmm, looks like a quality snorkel, but considerably cheaper than most. I'd be cautious. Also doesn't seem to include an air box sealer. I've seen people hydrolock WITH a snorkel, but an unsealed air box which gathered water like a bucket. -
I have done this too. They hold up well, don't shift, loosen, or in any way become unsafe. I've supported the truck from them with jackstands before and they didn't so much as scratch them. Braces are nice for that added security, but not needed. The lower controls arms in this picture are backwards. DO NOT use this as a reference if you just so happen to be searching and find this image.

Lift the engine out of the bay with a catapult and chuck the %*#$er. I about did that when I was getting the oil pan back on.

Yamaha Xt 350 Dual Sport
AeroNautical replied to AeroNautical's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
I'd thought this would have been more of a project than it currently is, nothing is wrong with it. Not a problem, for sure, but still, kinda wanted something to wrench on. I did replace the tires, change the brakes, replace a clutch line, rebuild the master, but damn it that's all preventative maintenance. Where's that engine rebuild at? 40,000? Well I'm at 14, so... -
Just got a bored TB from Jeff Leigh on stokedjeeps, and was impressed with the results. Quicker response, more power for less throttle, worth the upgrade for sure, especially on my once hydrolocked, 26 year old renix motor. Ever since my water incident, the ol 4.0s been runnin on borrowed time. I'll take care of it until it dies, which is not that far off. SO, who's wantin to part with a nice stroked 4.7?

Rattle Can paint Jobs
AeroNautical replied to Hillcountrymac's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This paint is easily 10 years old, minus the fenders and side vent (painted those about a year ago). You can see chipping, it's faded, but held up well considering it cost about $50 to paint. I'm gonna be painting it entirely again soon, it's certainly due, but the point is rattle canning is in no way a bad decision. Cheap, easy and lasts decently long if prepped correctly. -
Looking for a bored renix throttle body
AeroNautical replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Indeed, gonna be shipping out my core to him tomorrow, so that's atleast one that'll be available soon.
