Thinking about a dog (puppy)...maybe, suggestions?
wolfpackjeeper replied to SuperWade2's topic in The Pub
This is exactly why I will not go to a specific "rescue" organization if it is run by PETA or the SPCA. They charge a ridiculous amount to drop a dog off, Then they charge a lot to take the dog away. Often with no shots spaying or neutering. A buddy of mine went to gt a dog from a shelter, the guy in front of him in line just happened to be dropping a dog off. He like the dog and asked to have it. As he was walking out with his new dog, the lady from behind the counter came running out saying that he could not have a dog and that he had to pay (wearing tye dye and birkenstocks according to him), he got yelled at and she was threatening to call the cops and animal control on him. The shelter near my parents house requires a background check, 3 letters of recommendation, a letter from a vet (known to them, who allows them to inspect his/her clinic at will), as well as a contract allowing them to come inspect YOUR house at will and take the dog if it is not getting the treatment that THEY think it deserves. Dude for $500 you can get a fullbred cocker strait from a breeder, see its parents and their temperament, as well as it probably having first round shots. Honestly, you can probably get on craigslist and find a bunch of puppies for sale, once again already wormed and many with a first round of shots for next to nothing. People are always getting rid of litters on there, all they ask is that you be kind to the animal and give it a good home. Some may ask for a donation. Some of the bet dogs I had growing up were Mutts, and free. -

4.0L Starter Fastening Bolt
wolfpackjeeper replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the parts stores sell replacement bolts in packages that contain several types. If you cannot find one at a yard, then that will be your best bet. IIRC you will want an actual starter bolt, so I would try to find one before you go with a standard bolt. -

I cannot say that I have ever seen a TJ in the Junkyard. I have seen a Commando or 2 though. There have been a few people around here selling their stockers on craigslist, but they want $100 for them. Gotta be crazy -

yes, I knew I had seen it before, I never did mine, I happened upon a freshly rebuilt DS on a cherokee in the Junkyard. And I am aware that the driveshaft on the comanche is longer than the cherokee. I mentioned it because that was how I knew it was a yolk not a flange on later models, not because I intended to try. -
Lowering Spring differences

yea, I figured it would get a bit rougher as these are a higher spring rate. I have a good set of shocks up front, and I am going to try to find a good set of coil spring isolators before I install them. I suppose I can always go back to cutting the XJ ones, but I hate to do it ya know. -
Why not? Thread resurrection. I got caught up with a bunch of other stuff and did not get to do much here for the last little bit. I got a set of window wipes and window channel pieces from Patrick on here, thanks buddy. Installed those and Now the cab is quieter and does not leak at the corners of the windows at the car wash. I also got tired of the local radio stations and finally installed the USB cord on my radio that lets you use a flash drive to store music. I got a nicer head unit, and it does not have this feature on the face, instead you run a cord wherever you want it. So I notched out a hole next to the cig lighter and fit it in there flush. Works great. I also polished up my taillights with light sandpaper and some MGuires Plastix. I also wandered through the local jy and found a set of rear ZJ springs in the back seat of a ZJ (rear axle had been pulled), so no work required. Painted them red so they would have more performance qualities about them. $17, this picture shows the difference from a stock coil form a 2000 XJ. I also got a set of WJ lower control arms from a local guy, I traded my MJ shackles for them as I installed XJ shackles on the truck. They had already ben installed on an XJ so they should be cut for the MJ already. I cleaned and painted them as well. I have a subwoofer setup to go in once I find a good deal on an Amp, need about 250w RMS possibly a little less. It is a 10" Solar Baric Comp in a matching Solar Baric Box. Now I just need to figure out what blacks to get for the rear. I am thinking 2" drop should be about right. I also need to get a V8 zj swaybar to install in the front, and I want to modify an XJ swaybar for the rear, at that point I think I should be pretty well setup for carving. Next round will be the Trans-Am Formula steering box(I already have it and it is a 3 turn box) and power steering conversion. Then hopefully a full rebuild on the 2.5l with a slight overbore. I also want to convert to MPI as soon as I can find a donor vehicle to rip all the parts out of.

Ok, So I got bored and wondered through the local pick and pull yesterday. I lucked out and found a ZJ with the rear axle removed already, and the springs sitting on the rear seat. Schweet. Now I do not have to cut the 2000 XJ springs I have, and can put those back onto a 1991 XJ my MIL is driving so it will ride better. So I painted them up a nice red color. I used some of that Latex H2o that Krylon has out (had a can laying around for some reason). It is supposed to be a spray off clean that would be good for plastic patio furniture, so I figured that coupled with the latex paint would make it good for springs. Maybe it will not flake off after a few thousand miles. Besides, Eibach paints their springs red, so it must be good for performance right? Anyway, here is a picture for those guys on here interested in lowering their MJ without laying frame like Jbhill. THe Right is from the ZJ, the left is a stock 2000 XJ spring. they look like about 1.5-2 coils less than the XJ spring so between 2" -3" of drop depending on weight of the truck. springs cost me $17 which is fair enough I suppose.

not sure on the 87, but the 94 should bolt that double cardan up to a yolk on the TC. They all have done that since at least 1991. Unless stuff has been swapped out. This is why you can use the front DS on the rear with a hack and tap kit. (at least on a cherokee) -
like I said, cut it off and head to Meineke. I doubt they will charge you $20 if you walk in and hand them a hanger and say hook this up. I am biased though, I hate that crossmember mounted design, later XJ's do not have it anymore.

WJ control arms and swaybar on an MJ questions.
wolfpackjeeper replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The WJ lowers will work well as a tubular control arm. You will have slightly less flex than a stock setup, but you may not even notice. They will be stiffer than the stock u shaped ones, therefore not being able to twist as much. That being said, I have a fresh painted set to use on my comanche alongside the fresh painted rear zj coils. I am hoping to firm up the handling on my street MJ -
Pressing out DC u joints

I thought you just bought it as one piece, if not then it should press out just like the axle shafts. They press in both sides as well. You just go one direction, then the other. -
anyone used rugged ridge steering?
wolfpackjeeper replied to trail grenade's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
can't say, I do not have any personal experience with it. I can tell you that my cherokee is getting a WJ knuckle swap and will be getting all the JKS pieces needed to move it to high steering and a separate track bar. Lots of people run it though. -
I would get rid of it and move to a standard setup. If you ever break an engine mount, the way it is designed it will probably break the exhaust manifold. It has no flexibility to it. I would just throw it on a lift or take it to an exhaust shop, cut off that piece and just have them hook up a normal rubber hanger.
-
is that in the taint portion or the dong portion?

on any type of setup with that steering geometry you can benifit by building a spacer to go between the rod end and joint. I have seen cutting board used with good results, and I have seen people use shock washers with a rubber grommet between them used with good success. Most people change the bushing out at least semi annually. -

seems a little feminine, but I got my wife a ShihTzu about a year ago. And it has been one of the best dogs that I have ever had. Lots of personality, loves to play with the kids on base (mostly 4 or younger, just runs around with them), does not bark much, potty trained very quickly and before then he made very small messes. love that dog, so much so that when he dies I doubt I will be able to get another. I have had great luck in the past with black labs, and with newfies. Both are great dogs and good with kids. The smartest dog I have ever had was a Border Collie, and he was great till he got to be around 7, then he started slowly getting very possessive and neurotic, but talk about smart. -
It will cause bump steer, not sure about death wobble though. :agree: Yep -- bump steer. Shouldn't contribute to death wobble. However, with that much lift I would expect the tie rod end on the drag link to wear quickly, and if that's loose it could be a contributing factor. The typical dropped pitman has about 1" of drop -- that's not much compensation for an 11" lift. What's the caster angle? at 11" of lift I would expect around 30deg (joke)

all my experience has been with little british cars. We had a little blue MG Midget with a spitfire motor swapped in that dad bought for $400 for a long time. It broke and we gave it away to a friend when we moved. Sweet little car. My dad owns a 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 ragtop. A sweet car. I am working on trying to get him to put it back together. It has been primered and the interior has been painted, he just needs to finish the assembly. He took it apart years ago, it already had problems with the wiring (british car) and somehow a queen bee of a swarming hive nested inside his drivers side mirror, covered the entire side of the car. Pretty impressive pictures actually. Awesome wee though.

Anyone use landing lights???
wolfpackjeeper replied to BPB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
fly in turbulence much??? I figure with your handle that you do, which has me confused. out at IFS in Colorado there were a couple of times that we flew and regretted it. Turned the plane in to maintenance when we were done just to make sure. We were getting kicked around on several occasions that I would say were harder than I generally experience in my Jeep, and that was only for 19 hops, the program runs year round. -
I am up in the Taint of florida, everyone else seems to be down in the dong portion.
-
this is probably your problem. why all the lift? to fit 36"s you should not need that much. Probably have a tire out of balance, put some air soft bb's in the tires. Beyond that I would start checking out suspension components, that much lift and that much tire will wear stuff out quick.
-
telling us more about the truck (lift, tires, parts replaced) would be a start. Other than that it is just throwing money and parts in a hole...
-
Hmm, there cannot be more than one of those, and if so a while back he was trying to sell just the 401setup so he could make a BBC to go in. Had it up for sale on NAXJA.
