and the last video of the trip. Amazing scenery in the Sheepshead mountains overlooking the Black Rock desert.
-
😂 Think of the parts that you could buy with that money.
-
The final episode of the trip is out. although we saw some really cool things on this trip, I think this was the best scenery. We met a group of guys that started with four Jeeps and were down to two by the end of their trip. Luckily, the Comanche didn't let us down!

I recently replaced every piece of weatherstripping, (except for the a pillar seals that I couldn't locate), on my '89 4 dr XJ, (same doors as a MJ). There wasn't anything too difficult about it, but it wasn't a lot of fun. Pulling the vent windows was the hardest part, it's not that difficult, just kind of tedious finding the correct angle to get them in and out. I also removed all of the regulators to clean and lube them, they are easy if you get the correct angle and rotation sequence, kind of a pain if you don't.

Brake lights gone out, confused!
Htchevyii replied to Poweralth's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've had one of the wires break that attach to the switch, twice. The wire inside was broken, but the insulation was still intact. At least on my truck, there was a tight bent there. -
Thanks! Positive comments are what keeps Heather motivated, it's certainly not the $2.00/HR that she makes from YouTube! There's one more video from this trip coming, it was a really neat part of the trip. Unfortunately, the next few months will be spent repairing the extensive damages that were done to our rental property by jerks. We have plans of hitting the Mojave road in OCT, hopefully we will be done with the nightmare by then. Thanks for watching!

thanks! We just got back from a trip...in the Mustang. It killed us having to pass by neat places, but we were going to Las Vegas where it was 115 degrees, so that was a no go in the MJ. We did manage to sneak to a few on good dirt roads though. Thanks for watching!
-
Well, due to budget cut backs, Heather's Ford Mustang has become an overland vehicle. Not really, but we couldn't resist checking out some fairly easy to get to mines and ghost towns on our trip to Goldfield NV and Las Vegas. This was near Gold Point NV.
-
That's for sure!
-
This was an awesome stop! There's so much cool history in NV to explore! The next video is my favorite part of the trip so watch for it as well!

We were in Death Valley in the MJ a few years ago and stopped on a ridge overlooking Saline Valley. Two jet fighters buzzed us, they arrived so quickly that we couldn't even turn on a camera in time. It sure was cool though!
-
I spotted @EUREKAs clean MJ in the wild yesterday! I've actually seen a couple more on the road recently that I've never seen before as well.
-
Here's at video from the trip! One more to go. We explored the Eureka Mine, Jumbo Mine and Paradise Valley NV.

All of our recycling places require you to take your container with you. Weather I use the under lift stand up drain or the old school metal pan, it will end up inside of a 5 gallon gas can for recycling.

I highly recommend Nick's REM. It makes diagnosing or even realizing that you have an issue so much easier. A few weeks ago while on a 1000 mile trip in the '89 XJ, the fuel pump relay failed. I couldn't remember which relay was which, (they are now labeled), so I switched them all around. The Jeep immediately fired up, but now I have a code for the o2 heater on the REM. I had swapped the bad FP relay with the o2 heater relay. If not for the REM, I would have never known this and just driven around in open loop for who knows how long. https://nickintimedesign.com/product/renix-engine-monitor-ii/

Ford 8.8 Swap Brake + E brake Setup
Htchevyii replied to ktmall07's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Man, it's been like 20 years, but I used 2x Ford Explorer right hand hoses and made new hard lines. These adapters made the OE brake cables fit the Ford calipers. https://www.theflopshopoffroad.com/products/ford-8-8-swap-e-brake-cable-adapters -
Well, if a boat that was sunk for 30 years can run, maybe an XJ can? https://youtu.be/5ghmYGk4KT8?si=WH1YAn-X3CvVKPPb

I have to work out of town this week in Ukiah CA. It's way too hot for this coastal boy, forecast is 111. I took an air conditioned drive and saw this super neat old service station. PXL_20240710_014245604.mp4

Awesome! Thanks!

Oh and here's part 1.
-
Part 2 is live for anyone who's been following along. We saw some neat stuff @ Dixie Valley! I particularly liked the old military stuff.

Only 2 of the hoses have to do with the crankcase ventilation. The small one in the back going to the intake and the large one in the front that goes to the filter. The small one has a small metered orifice and can become plugged. There's also Cruiser's (RIP) tip of modifying the inside of the cover. Is there excessive blowby coming from the valve cover when it's running with the cap removed? https://cruiser54.com/?p=131

Oh it was dirty. I dumped about a cup of dust out of the air filter, (replaced now). I also had to change the water pump on the side of the road. That was the first time that I've seen the bearings catastrophically fail with no warning. Luckily our Gambler buds helped us get the parts that we needed.
-
If you don't know what the Gambler 500 is, you need to! Imagine a party with a bunch of people in freaky cars. Then you head out to the woods while trying to avoid paved roads and pickup TONS of garbage, abandoned trailers and vehicles to clean up public lands. We met a group of guys last year that welcomed us into their group and invited us to hang with them again this year. Folks are unpretentious and friendly. There may have been more XJ's than any other single vehicle. Here's our experience .
