The Virginia City and Gold Hill NV exploration video just dropped for anyone interested.

Well, I ended up backordering the BRE/Magnaflow pipe and finally received it nearly 6 months later. It is a mandrel bent stainless pipe and doesn't have the crushed area of the factory pipe. Interestingly, it also includes front wheel drive type mounting hardware with springs for the manifold connection. I'll update you on the fit once it's installed.

I drive a $500. Civic to work so I can afford to adventure in the MJ. We have the highest prices around for fuel, even for CA.🙄 Thanks for watching!

That's an Omnia oven, I'm not sure if it does anything that a Dutch oven doesn't, but it is lighter and works pretty good. The optional silicone liner keeps things from burning and is easy to clean. I had to look back at the video, but I think that's the strap that I was supposed to attach the end link to had I disconnected them. I didn't think that trail was going to be so rough or I would have disconnected them. I kept expecting to get to an impassable area and having to back up a long ways. Once you're on rough ground it's very difficult to get the pins out. Thanks, we have really got to explore some neat places. There are so many in the CA and NV deserts, we still have a lot to see.

Cool! Thanks!

We survived another trip in the old MJ. Due to a big incoming snowstorm, we had to abort and head home early. We ended up covering almost 900 miles in three days and got to explore some cool NV history in the Virginia City area.

As long as you've got clearance, the 33's should be fine. I've been running 33's for years with 3.73's usually loaded down for a week or two on the road. It's doable, but 4.11's or 4.56's are definitely on the wishlist.

😁👍 cantt wait to hit the road on Friday!

Do you still have the factory brake valve in the rear? It cuts pressure to the rear brakes when the rear rises during a stop, so lifting the rear with it in place cuts brake pressure. In the early days, I just removed the rod and turned the adjuster to a good position. Now it's bypassed completely. Id recommend jacking up by the "frame" to check the hose length. I put an add a leaf on my XJ's saggy rear springs and it was stretched tight when the rear dropped. You can also sometimes relocate the bracket where it mounts to allow more droop.

That was my parts car, turned budget racer. We had two other nicer ones. I sold mine to concentrate on my Novas and Jeeps and we kept my wife's '82 EFI model. This one is rusty and has registration back fees in excess of its value, but runs great!

I did a few autocrosses, too many hobbies though, so it got the axe. The Fiat is still rusting away under a tarp. I should see if it still runs and rip some more donuts. 287363603_PXL_20220911_2133582204.mp4

Thanks! I just gave it a check over and it looks like it's ready to go ghost town hunting in NV in a few weeks.

Thanks! We appreciate that! I can't wait until we can get out again!

Out of curiosity, I've been trying to add up the mileage that we have put on the old MJ in the last 4 years. Adding up the big trips puts me at about 16,000 miles, but there are plenty of 3-4 day trips that I didn't count, I'm guessing it's closer to 20,000. Our first long trip was the Oregon Gambler 500 which was about 800 miles. That was followed by our longest trip to date, 2800 miles to Death Valley, Mojave, Valley of Fire, ETC. since then, there has been many 1,500-2,200 mile trips in CA, OR, ID, AZ and especially NV. The last was 2,000 miles to the Mojave Road. Heather even takes it on a "girls trip" now and then. There hasn't been a ton of major issues along the way, but there has been some. The biggest wasn't the fault of the Jeep, but myself. We were on a loose rock shelf road that gave away and ended up sliding into a lake near Boise ID. I could have done better on my part, but hindsight is 20-20. We did have to tow the Jeep home and flush and dry it out as well as replace some electronics on that one. The other major failure was the internal slave cylinder failing in the Black Rock Desert 500 miles from home. We drove home by starting the truck in 1st gear and rev matching shifts. It has an external conversion now. Other than that, we've lost a few bolts and suffered a cracked exhaust pipe, but not too bad. We've also driven abt 3000 miles in the '89 XJ in the last 2 years. I thought that it's lower mileage and mild build would be ideal for longer trips, but so far, we still prefer the MJ. It was kind of stressful at first, but I've come to trust the old truck and am confident that we can overcome most problems. We aren't hesitant to jump in it and drive it all day every day for a two week stretch. We've been chronicling our adventures on YouTube if you haven't seen them. We've got a long weekend coming up and we're heading to have not some more ghost towns in NV. https://youtube.com/@campoutwestus?si=tq5MV8_WkJmNDCEQ

Pretty sure those are identical to the Rocky Road Outfitters brackets that I bought. Same exact part number in fact. I liked the extra reinforcement in the back and the fact that it could act as a ramp if I was backing into an obstacle.

I've got the Core arms and track bar. It seems like pretty solid stuff. I had 4" of lift on short arms and the ride was terrible. I added RRO drop brackets and the difference was amazing, (currently has a probably sagged 5.5" lift). I know that everyone runs long arms now, but mine is pretty dialed in and dependable and I don't have any plans on changing things anytime soon. Glad to see that you're back on the build, congrats on the retirement!

If you've got 3.07 gears, it probably is a dog. Mine was great with the tiny stock tires. I've got 3.73's now and will eventually upgrade to 4.11 or 4.56.

87 Radio wiring diagram needed
Htchevyii replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just went through this on my '88. My wires did not match most diagrams that I found, but did match this one. -
Ha ha, I was surprised that he had seemed to ignore it at first.

I listen to lots of older stuff as well, 80's -2000. Not much earlier stuff unless they're about hot rods or some classic country.
