IF you have a vacuum pump, just cap the other nipple and see if it holds vacuum. I suppose that you could pressurize it with a rubber tipped blow gun at relatively low pressure and listen for air leaks or dunk in in water, you'd probably have to hold the cap on the unused nipple while doing this.

Rookie Water Pump Replacement
Htchevyii replied to AnotherOldJeepGuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I replaced mine on the side of the road in Bend OR @the Gambler 500. Luckily my new Gambler homies ran to the parts store for me and gave me moral support while I changed it. The bearing catastrophically failed and the belt came off. Then we chopped a boat with an axe and broke it with the XJ and a Ram and took it to the dump on a Crown Vic! Epic weekend! There's even a video! https://youtu.be/Rzih3Fr9kG4 -
I did exactly this! My engine runs great and doesn't seem to have much blowby, but it's always got oil in the air filter, even when it was just 4 years old. I tried the Cruiser mod, but didn't notice a difference. I now have a 1996 valve cover and it has a much improved breather design. It's larger hoses made it easier to install a catch can, (on the rear which should be the hose sucking into the intake). I don't think that the catch can was needed as it barely collects any oil. I went from burning a quart every 2000 miles to essentially burning no oil after the valve cover change.

K Suspension 4 hole injectors, new Chinese?
Htchevyii replied to Htchevyii's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
@hgeraniumyes, apparently K sells either under the same PN. The last time, I ordered I did receive the Volvo units. I did get a response from K and they claim that they're legit, so I guess I'll give them a try. They sure do look shiny and new though. 🤨 "We do not deal with chinese knock off units, all our units are OEM units that we remanufacture in house. You're welcome to return your units per our return policy listed on our website, but I assure you, we don't deal with the knock off units that you can find online, that's why we don't sell on Amazon or eBay, we only supply our units through our website." -

I still haven't heard back from the K Suspension folks. Thanks Pete. -
K Suspension 4 hole injectors, new Chinese?
Htchevyii replied to Htchevyii's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's exactly what I don't want. CA environmental regulations have done a great job of eliminating the 5 or so wrecking yards that existed here when I was young. -
I went with a used American made Western as opposed to a new Chinese model. Mine was older but infrequently used. I see quite a few used quality ones for sale, but some may be REALLY used. Rotary and Bendpack were used at the dealership that I worked at. I installed mine using a used 1/2" hammer drill and a helper. I did have to buy a rebar cutter but for the few holes that it rebar. We used a cherry picker to help lift the uprights.

Hi guys, just checking to see if anyone has input on the injectors that K Suspension is shipping. I bought a set a few years ago for the MJ and received a set of yellow Bosch injectors that did indeed appear to be "rebuilt" or at least not new. I ordered a set for the XJ and received what appear to be brand new grey ones. My concern is that I doubt that they are sourcing genuine or OEM injectors for this price. Knockoffs are available all over the place and I have purposely avoided them because I have little faith in their performance or longevity. I did reach out to them, but don't expect a response until next week.

Colt just bought his dad's first Comanche, so it looks like he'll have some more MJ content on YouTube.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure that the MJ gets more attention than even my 69 Nova. New Jeep owners that you meet on the trail seem to dig it. In contrast, most new Jeep owners that you meet in town that just use their Jeeps for transportation, probably don't even recognize it as a Jeep. I've once overheard someone saying "they turned that Cherokee into a truck". My alignment guy said that multiple people thought it was an old Toyota when it was there. 🙄

1JTMW661XHT065126 I spotted this one today, at the parts store of course. 😁 I had to get back to work, so I didn't talk to the owner.

Thanks for watching! Yes, that spot got weird in a hurry. 😁

We finally got the first video out from our 2600 mile Nevada ghost town hunting adventure. We visited some really cool spots and had the old Jeep over 10,000 feet at Great Basin National Park. Please check it out if you're interested, comments, likes and subscribing helps too. Thanks for your support and there are a few more cool videos to come!

It's cool to see another MJ getting used. We just finished a 2600 overland trip in ours. Subscribed.

Mine was! The 35 lived through a surprising amount of abuse, I think the small tires saved it. I was 20 when I got it and was definitely not easy on it. That was a long time ago!

Somehow, I never broke the Dana 35, just the Peugeot trans. I did however, buy two different Dana 35's that had broken ring gears, so I suspect that to be a weak point.

Does your transmission tunnel get hot as hell?
Htchevyii replied to Htchevyii's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm getting ready to pull the console out and check things out. I also would not be surprised if my "new" inner shift boot was made of crummy rubber and is disengraded. I will definitely be taking a close look at the transfer case shifter area. -
Does your transmission tunnel get hot as hell?

The Redline MTL was recommended by Advance Adapters and is supposed to meet the requirements of 10w30? It seems to be more of an issue at HWY speeds. You'd think that there would be enough air blowing underneath to cool things. Satisfies the gear oil viscosity requirements of 75W, 80W and motor oil viscosities of SAE 30, 10W30 and 5W30 Recommended for GL-1, GL-3 and GL-4 applications as well as where most special synchromesh fluids are specified. -
Does your transmission tunnel get hot as hell?
Htchevyii replied to Htchevyii's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm really wishing that I put some sort of heat shield on the firewall and bottom of the transmission tunnel when the engine and transmission were out. I think that would be more effective than trying to stop it ion the inside once the metal is already hot. Those 80 MPH Nevada speed limits don't help. -
So, as many probably know, we take many very long trips in our ancient MJ. The biggest issue that we have is excessive heat inside of the cab. We've been fighting this for years and I've tried multiple times to correct it.. what I've done: -Massive hood louvers. These did drastically reduce under hood temps. I can't even cook a burrito in the intake now -The interior floor and tunnel have been painted with ceramic paint, followed by reflective Dynamat, covered with adhesive foam insulation and a DEI transmission tunnel blanket. The inner shift boot was replaced. - the factory jute insulation and carpet covers all of this. While it's fine on short trips, heat builds to an almost unbearable level after several hours. The tunnel near the transfer case shifter still gets hot enough to burn you. I'm running out of ideas at this point. Trans is a brand new AX15 with Redline fluid. T/Case is rebuilt with ATF+4. I guess that I'll take a drive and check some temps and see if I get any ideas, but it seems ridiculous that it's still getting this hot! I think that a heat shield between the trans and floor would be ideal, but I don't want to pull the transmission to do so. There isn't a cat in it.

Well, the old MJ survived almost 2600 miles of diving to and through the NV desert while loaded with a week's worth of supplies and gear. If that's not earning it's keep, I don't know what is.
-
I need to add a winch, but haven't been able to bring myself to add a big bulky bumper to do it.
-
It's about 25 miles from me. Unfortunately keeping just one MJ in good enough condition to drive anywhere at anytime is about all that I can handle. The other 8 vehicles to maintain don't help either. 😬
