Late Valve cover upgrade, CCV update
Htchevyii replied to Htchevyii's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's working the best that it has in 32 years, I'm kinda afraid to mess with it! The front is just a fresh air breather into the crankcase, not sure if a restrictor would help or hurt? There is a small orfice built into the rear elbow to restrict the size of the "vacuum leak". -
So, my '88 has always got oil into the intake hose and air filter, even when my dad bought it in 1992. I did Cruiser 54's breather update a few years ago, but didn't notice much difference. The hoses were not plugged. I finally bought a newer valve cover and also added an Amazon cheapo oil separator. We just finished a 2200 mile trip and the oil consumption looks to be about 1/4 quart. Previously it would have probably been 1-1/4 quarts. A huge improvement!

Hopefully that won't be the case, we enjoyed our first trip. I can see how the wrong time of year could be unbearable. No A/C in the MJ, we should probably be taking the white XJ.

That is the Traveler's Monument on the Mojave trail. It's customary to bring a rock to add to the pile. There is a plaque in the center that you are asked not to reveal with photos.

It will be interesting to see, but a little difficult to compare as well. The Milestars were the old design. I didn't keep track of the miles that we had them, but it was plenty. We've been limping by with them for the last year, pretty badly cupped and worn on the inside. It turns out that the front end was pretty toed-out, not not the fault of the tires. So there is definitely a night and day difference between the worn tires and the new BFGs. I was surprised that the tread width is 9.5" on the BFG, compared to 10.5" on the Milestars. I'm guessing that we had 25-30k on the Milestars and would have got another 10k if not for that alignment. We never did get a flat on them. I would have probably bought them again, but the price has increased so much that the BFGs were only a few hundred bucks more. (They charge about double to install tires that aren't purchased from them and nobody local carries Patagonias)

This one pretty much seems locked at all times. I put one that looks similar to the O'Reilly one on my XJ, but I don't remember the brand, I bought it at a local parts store in Ely NV. It works as expected. I'd be happy with some extra airflow, but this one is ridiculous, I really had no idea that a fan could be that loud!

I buy a lot there, but no time to order at this point. Rolling out Friday.

So, we are heading to Mojave in the MJ. It's a 14 hour drive each way. I think my 25 year old fan clutch was getting weak, so I ordered and installed a Crown unit, USA made and lower profile than most. Holy cow, that thing is loud, my truck sounds like one of the Jeeps in MASH, even over the cowl intake and mud tires. It doesn't matter if the truck is hot or cold or if it's 38 degrees out. I cannot live with this and it's got to be costing power and MPG. I suppose I'll just try the Murray from O'Reilly's at this point?

89 Sportruck at my local O'Reilly Auto. I think it's his only rig, it's always there. I have seen a few others pop up lately, but usually can't snap a pic.

Hmmm, good to know. In fact the new sensor may not be working. I had a bunch of weird high and low voltage codes on the heater side as well as the low voltage side on my REM with the old sensor(4 wire Bosch). I swapped in the new one and show 4.98 V with no swing. I was thinking perhaps I had a wiring issue or bad ECU, but haven't had time to try and figure it out. I might just have to do the wideband conversation through the REM. Please keep us posted on what you find. -
Angles will vary depending on if you're planning on a slip yolk eliminator or not, but it sounds like you're going for a mild build, so probably not necessary. I've got a '64 &'69 Nova that I've owned the majority of my life. Ha, actually the Comanche as well. I don't sell much. The last time I had the MJ at the tire shop for the day, the tech said he was asked multiple times why that Toyota said Jeep on the hood. 😂 I've also heard people comment to each other that someone made that Cherokee into a truck.

I ordered it on Amazon. Of course their picture shows a different style yet. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000BZJ62C?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image -

I'm not sure where you ended up, but I just purchased a Bosch 12009 and it seems that they have changed the design or manufacturer since the last few that I purchased. The first pic is the one that I just received, the second is what I have been receiving for the last few years. -

Depending on the conditions, she uses a DJI Action 4 with an external microphone, a Google Pixel 6 Pro, an Insta360 x2 for overhead or some driving shots and occasionally a Panasonic Lumix for longer distance shots. The Pixel has really good stabilization for a phone. Add in a computer and some other gear and it's a really great way to lose money. 😂 Good thing that she enjoys it

We currently don't even have a goldfish (after losing our beloved dog of 16 years a few years ago) and are enjoying the freedom to travel on a whim, but we do love animals. When I was a kid, we always ended up with some kind of random orphaned or stray animal. We raised a baby squirrel that came out of a fallen tree, a baby band tail pigeon and had a turtle and angora rabbit that just showed up at our house.

I must have 60-70 Rock Auto magnets. No Comanche though.

I appreciate the kind words, I passed them along. Heather is 100% responsible for the video editing, I'm pretty much maxed out on hobbies and projects and video editing isn't one that I'd like to add to the list.
