That makes sense. Where would you run the wires?

Nice looking truck! Looks like a good solid foundation to work with. I seem to recall seeing it on CL as well. can't wait to see what youre going to do with it. If you need a junkyard run partner in crime, give me a shout. I usualy go to DFW for my yard runs. Couple other MJ guys in the area as well. And by the way, the classic plates are a nice touch.

Extremely Rusted Floor, Suggestions Please!
Backdraft replied to darkenfire's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think I've sent this "rust" thing you people speak of......not too sure what to do about it. Yeah, I'd cut more out and replace it and only POR over good looking bare metal.- 41 replies

Out of curiosity, how are you planning on mounting and lighting it up without drilling holes?

Today I pulled into a local business and turned around in their parking lot. In the middle of my turn i heard/felt a pop. My steering got nice and sqishy at the same time. Looked under to see what happened and the frame side bolt on the track bar had sheared in half. I'm running a RE HD adjustable trackbar. The frame side is connected with a grade 8 3.5 inch long half inch bolt. When I gave it a good look, I found I had a regular nut on it. I'm ASSUMING with 15,000 miles ive put on this truck in combination with the regular non locking nut, along with vibration and a good amount of oil from a previous power steering leak, the nut worked itself loose. I'm guessing the play in it from working loose is what caused it to shear with the proper load applied. Anyone have any insight? Am I on the right track? Anyone experience the same thing? I wouldnt consider this such a big deal normally, but I'm running the TNT long arms (radius arms) and if this thing decides to make it a habit of shearing that bolt, it's going to make for an interesting ride at 75mph! And just to be clear, I replaced it with another grade 8 bolt with a locking nut

Spent some time today getting the donors interior stripped down. Trying to get some decent access to the firewall and bracketry. Tomorrow we should have all the brackets and things removed and cleaned up for installation into the MJ. More to come!

Deep in the heart of Comanche County

You show us this AFTER I get a V8 ZJ swaybar? Thanks! Seriously though Jay, it looks great. Nice innovation! -
Ryan, I wish I could get it finished. Its gonna need paint and I don't think I can convince the paint shop to get it shot in 2 or 3 days! My plans are to have all the suspension work and sheet metal work done. Have all the old holes covered and new holes made under the hood for the ECU, cruise, etc. Most likely primer the engine bay and inside of the firewall. And generally have it ready to drop off at the body shop. I want it to be in a position that we can just bolt stuff into place when it comes back from paint. It shouldn't take but a couple days before it cranks and runs at that point. Dylan. You're more than welcome to drop them off and leave em with me for a small (read large) fee! There's a guy in Frisco that I'll be helping with a conversion in the coming months. But hey, if you really want to mash the two up and make one truck out of them, it wouldn't take us but a week or so to get the work done, minus paint of course. Unless you wanna go the spray bomb route. Naturally, that time prediction is beer contingent as always!

We are gearing up to continue working on the truck. I have two weeks of vacation starting Saturday, so we should get a lot of work done on it. Stay tuned...

They say it will be on par with their XJ DIY rear bumper which runs $220US. They also state that the black Friday sale price will be lower than that. Also you are correct. You do the welding. DIY=Do It Yourself. They ship the bumper to you in flat pieces that are cut and ready to be assembled. You receive the kit and bend/weld the pieces together, then finish it how you like.

Ditto what Brett said. I've been needing a decent rear bumper to replace the bent stock bumper and this looks to be just the ticket. I'd certainly like a provision for a plate and light, but its not a deal breaker. And since its a DIY bumper, I'm sure I can improvise and come up with something. Besides, I have their front winch bumper and really like it. A rear bumper from the same manufacturer would satisfy my touch of OCD.

They will fit if you make them. The edges will not sit perfectly flat against the roof but it's close enough. There will be about 7 holes you need to drill in the roof for the mounting points and the wiring harness. If you get it, try to get the harness for it as well, it will make wiring less painful. I have one for my phoenix build and will be mounting/drilling the holes/wiring it up in about two weeks when I take vacation.

Um......so what would it have taken? Inquiring minds want to know.......

Nick, those lights are Hella 500 Black Magic. I got them from Quadratec. They're pretty nice. They are really bright at night. Well, they were until I compared them to the Osram 85 Watt headlights set on high beams! Moab sounds like a good idea. I havent been there since october of 04.

Since the southwest forum is the closest thing Texas halfway fits in, I'd like to start a roll call for all the Texas members out there. Only starting this simply because some of us don't feel like we fit in any of the regional categories due to distance. As an example, I live in eastern Texas and its a day to day and a half drive to what I consider the southwest (New Mexico, Arizona, etc.). So anyway, where are all you Texans and in what part of the state are you? It would be cool if we could organize a type of meet and greet, pow wow, and hopefully a wheeling trip somewhere we can all get to with a fairly short and equidistant drive for each of us. And to kick it off I suppose I'll start: Mike BeCraft 1989 Comanche Eliminator Whitehouse, TX Who else is out there?

Thanks, I think the oil pressure gauge was on the fritz at the time. It normally reads 50 - 60 pounds cold and 40psi hot at speed. On another note, I went to the junkyard yesterday to scope out an MJ that recently showed up. Scored a complete spare gray interior. There were also 2 97+ XJ two door models there, so the seat tilt mechanisms from both XJs were taken. Neither had power windows, so I missed out on the drivers window switch and trim pieces. Oh well. I felt like it was my birthday just having found them. I may go back in a couple days and get the MJ tailgate which was in perfect shape as well as the parking brake assembly as spares since they can't be sourced anywhere. Also got to meet fellow MJer Adam "NTXmancheman" while at the yard. Super cool dude with a nice Comanche as well. Didnt get any pictures of our trucks at the yard, but made sure to take a few snapshots after having a celebratory quarter pounder...

No real updates other than enjoying driving in some colder weather. On my way to work today I noticed the odometer reading. I realized I have put 10,000 miles on this thing since last December. Boy, how time flies and the miles tick away.
