  1. x3 it will be just fine towing home with a uhaul dolly. i recently towed my 89 2wd just over 100 miles on a tow dolly with my v6 trailblazer and didnt have problem one out of it. and the driveshaft is a personal preference. if you want to drop it, go ahead. i didnt feel like crawling under mine, so i tossed it in neutral and never looked back. Mike
  2. wire harness wasnt hard at all to replace. its all plug and play right? and which one is it guys, i got conflicting answers...lol. i understand theres a separate TCU and the throttle body bracketry and TV cable and all is not present on the stick. The fact that there is a separate TCU leads me to believe theres no difference. however the fact that at my local parts house they carry two different part numbers as well as prices leads me to believe they are somehow different.
  3. is there on the renix 4.0 ECU between an auto and a stick? I finally got my MJ running after replacing the entire wire harness from front to back and swapping ECUs. Only hangup is the working ECU is for an auto and its now in a manual. Are there any negative effects of running this computer or am i better off getting a computer for the manual? thanks. Mike
  4. thanks for the heads up jeff. upon further inspection, i might have to rip all the wiring out of this thing and start anew with some donors. looking closer at it, ive found a lot of splices in there as well as plugs that have been cut off and replaced with terminal ends and spades. anyone got all the harnesses to fit an 98?
  5. great, thats what i wanted to hear. the PO pulled the original harness out and swapped another one in kind of half heartedly. the better of the two and the one that was sitting in the bed has the connector for the TCU. i just wanted to make sure there wasnt some kind of interconnect that ran to the TCU that required the controller to permit firing of the engine. now i can finish checking continuity of all those wires and drop it in so i can get it running again. Mike
  6. Is the engine wire harness (the one that plugs into the computer) the same or different between and automatic and a standard. And if not, will the wire harness from and automatic work ok in a stick shift?
  7. well damn......the prerunner injects new ideas to where this thing may be headed. thanks a lot guys for the new ideas and difficult decisions i need to make....lol Mike
  8. thanks, thats what i thought, just wanted to make sure Mike
  9. its a 2wd 4.0L AX15 with a D44. i have an 87 waggy 4wd that was a project, but the owner never found the title, so I'm probably going to end up swapping the proper components for a conversion. the XJ in the pic was born a 2wd as well, after the AW4 went out, it was a good opportunity to do a swap rather than just rebuild it. it currently sports a 4.0L, AW4, 231, d30 and d35(i know) with 4.56s and 33s sitting on a RE 4.5 lift. not sure how high i want the manche, but I'm leaning toward 4.5 inches with another RE superflex in the front and a SOA in the rear. 4.11s and either 32s or 33s Mike
  10. towed it with a 2005 chevy trailblazer with a v6 and didnt have a single problem, it towed like a champ. tossed it in neutral, strapped the front tires down, and was cruising at 65mph for 100 miles without an issue.
  11. Had a quick question, are the computers from a renix stick and auto interchangable?
  12. Hello everyone here on ComancheClub. I joined up here a couple weeks ago whilst on my quest for another MJ. I got my first one at 16 and killed it 6 weeks after getting my license and have been wanting one every since. After a month or so I found an 89 for sale and I dragged it home yesterday. Its a SWB with the 4.0L, AX15, and apparantly i lucked out and someone swapped in a D44. The PO doesnt know much about these trucks and said the tranny has granny gears in it. I havent checked it yet but I'm hoping the rear has 4.11s in it. He did however give a fresh new coat of glasso paint, i don't think he was very educated about under the hood. He said one day it just wouldnt crank, so he started ripping the wire harness out and replacing them. Needless to say, I'll be swapping the original harness back into it as soon as i check it completely for shorts. After that I'm sure its nothing a few sensors (CPS) can't fix. Anyway here's a couple crappy cell phone pics of it when dragged it home yesterday. Sorry, i suck at the photobusket and don't know how to resize. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found
