  1. Sweet! I have an '86. Time for a trip to Capital Chrysler Jeep and Dodge.
  2. If it was a safety recall, then kick up a ruckus and they will HAVE to come up with replacements. As long as a vehicle is on the road, if a safety recall was issued then the manufacturer is liable for repairs to remediate the problem. Good point.
  3. No, it won't affect a thing.
  4. I, too, would like a copy of this recall. Mine on my '86 is touchy at best.
  5. It plugs into the temperature switch in the radiator that turns on the electric fan when the coolant gets too hot. It plugs into this thing: The above fan switch screws into this opening:
  6. One thing some people do is get the CAD 30 and swap the one piece axle shafts from a newer HP D30. The older CAD D30 housing is a little stronger because of the extra casting of metal around the CAD opening. Probably not worth the work if you don't need the added strength, but just something I wanted to put out there.
  7. There looks to be some good parts or a good start for a fixer upper. That rear bumper looks like maybe an S10 bumper? :dunno:
  8. Dear god... "only made for 3 years in the 80's" ?? Um... he clearly isn't a member here. And what the hell is that bumper off of?
  9. That's what worries me. I am actually thinking about doing a 2" budget lift (coil spacers and chevy lowering shackles). Going to save up for new shocks and those Monroe load levelers. I suppose I can just wait and do all that at once. You reckon 2" of lift would be enough to prevent bottoming out? I really don't want to break the transfercase all to hell when I hit a pot hole lol.
  10. You've got current back-feeding into the dim/parking light circuit. Likely through a bulb socket in the rear tail lights or front turn signals. Check all of the dual-filament bulb sockets and verify the bulbs are installed correctly. Also check for corrosion and crossed or bare wires. Next step would be your head light switch and the headlight harness plug under the hood, driverside.
  11. Got a question for you guys about drive shaft, particularly the front ones. When my MJ started life, it was a 2.5L with the AX4 and NP207. It's now a 4.0L with AX15 with the NP242. I have the original front DS from the 2.5L/AX4 setup which is awfully skinny for a drive shaft. I also have the front DS from my XJ donor that had the 4.0L and AW4 with NP231. I know there is no difference as far as the DS is concerned between the 231 and 242, but there is a difference between the AW4 and AX15. The question I'm posing is, will the donor front DS work? I'm pretty sure the skinny DS is far too short. I've included pictures for comparison.
  12. By the time everyone sees this post, Jim will be on his merry way to pick up his 15th MJ lol. Hell, it's in his home town. Ten bucks says he's already made a deal with the guy haha.
  13. Yes, the newer ones are a direct swap. Larger u-joints too. Back in April, I put a one-piece 4.10 geared HP D30 from a '94 4-banger XJ into my '88 XJ. It was a direct bolt-in swap. Swapped in C8.25 from the same XJ into mine to replace the D35 I had. Also, ones from ZJs and TJs work also, but they're low pinion I believe and are far less desirable. The TJ ones also have some caster adjustment on the axle side. Stick with an HP D30 from a later model XJ... (2000-01 XJs had low pinions also)
  14. That's great! :rotf:
  15. Thought this was funny so I wanted to share:
  16. "Winter" fuel? :hmm:
  17. You can get LED bulbs to replace the standard filament bulbs, but I don't believe there is a company that makes the whole MJ tail light LED assembly. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/tail-brake-turn/
  18. Clicking can be heard when the headlights are turned on? Sounds like a bad headlight delay timer. Pull the fuse labelled "HD LP DLY" and see if that makes a difference. I wish you lived closer, I'd be willing to help you figure it out. Electrical isn't too terrible, to me at least.
  19. I don't believe there is a minimum post count on this forum for picture posting. There's a thread floating around on here somewhere to show how to post pictures and other media.
  20. Should as long as the input gear is the same spline count and length. Otherwise, a 231 is a 231.
  21. I'm sorry. This is easier for me to read. Well, the bold I mean.
  22. If this is you on Photobucket, then all I see is 3 pics of a dirtbike.
  23. Big plans and a small wallet don't mix well...
