  1. I think your best bet is going to be pulling a full unit from one in a junkyard bud. It's what I plan on doing for mine (full window sux)
  2. Don't you dare tempt me, but going by a quick out the window visual you could fit about 11 and not have any blocked in, or 23 and have to move them all to get the ones in the back out. Best picture I have of my driveway, not shown is the long run behind the truck where my dads F250 is always parked along with a 16' box trailer and a 10' dump trailer. Most Jeeps I've ever had in my driveway at once was only 4 though.
  3. Feels like a dumb question, would an 89/90 Renix ECU just be a plug and play type deal?
  4. That's not an XJ/MJ shifter. It's out of a YG or TJ Wrangler, and they have longer shift handles. I have an '87 MJ 5-speed, and '88 XJ 5-speed, and a 2000 XJ 5-speed. The shift handles are all the same length. Shift throws are not massively long, but they're also not short-throw like a sports car. And it has to be kept in mind that the transmissions -- all of them -- aren't drag race transmissions. If you like to bang shifts like a drag racer, you WILL destroy the synchronizers in a short time. Like the man says that is a TJ shifter.....if you can't find one the right lenghth.....become friends with sombody with some fab skills....they are easy to customize I feel like I probably knew that it was a TJ shifter, since the trans is a TJ trans. Didn't really surprise me when eagle pointed that out. Now to decide if I want a TJ ax4 shifter in my other Comanche...
  5. So did you ever find out if it works? Unless I'm just this bad at reading.
  6. Correct. And my preference would be to put the best tires on the front. The front does all the steering and the major part of the braking -- I like to have some ccontrol over my vehicle when driving. I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. The way I was taught, the best tires are always put on the rear, for this reason: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTiresRear.do This is regardless of front or rear wheel drive. That looks more like a reason to keep the bald rears. Rain is just an excuse to power-slide everywhere when you're on all terrains.
  7. Chief is off the road again, brake booster failed on my way to work the other day so I had to tow it home and bang out my other truck. On the bright side I now have really no reason NOT to save up for a welder and do an SOA as well as all the other things I wanted to, since it's no longer the DD. Not even upset either, those 3 weeks I got to drive that 5 speed again were wonderful. (can't afford to register/insure both at the same time right now)
  8. So far so good, sittin pretty on turbines w/ some all terrains. I noted little pimples on my serp belt so I think that means I need to loosen it up some. I have the idiot light cluster so either It's got good oil pressure and is running cool or the lights don't work.
  9. It's great fun to open, have to palm-smack a screwdriver into the latches (they drilled holes in the little flange on the bed so you can stick one in)
  10. Any reason this specific writeup wouldn't work for a SWB MJ?
  11. Brake lines ran and bled, did the prop valve bypass as per eagles instructions, changed the air filter and spark plugs/dizzy. Took her for a test drive and then was like oh hell i forgot the u-joint. (I have a bearingless cap on the driveshaft just so i could move it around the yard)
  12. The dragstrip in englishtown NJ has a tandem comanche flatbed thing.
  13. That poor chief... why. :wall:
  14. Going from ba-10/5 to AX15 the shifter is MUCH higher than before, but the throw is still short. I really like driving like this, its a tall shifter like my 70 ford but without to nut buster reverse position. Here's a pic of how it sits. Aint nothing more fun than kicking down and opening it up on a backroad. Even if it's just an anemic 6cyl in a truck.
  15. I had a bad experience with this site; and some guy on another forum just recently had an issue while trying to buy parts for his 12' challenger. Basically they did what buffalobob said to me.
  16. OH. right. I just thought about what I thought the smaller bracket was for and realized it didn't make any sense. Thanks for the reply though.
  17. If you can take community college courses I'd suggest that, assuming they have a good program (local HS has great adult-education course with full ASE prep stuff). Once you've taken the courses you can take your ASE tests, and you'll get a certificate of completion, but not an actualy certification, unless you meet the x hours of work requirement, but you can take this completion cert with you in a job interview. If you get in at a dealership (not a mom&pop deal) they'll pay for your training from that point on. for 4 semesters of the auto class at my local adult edu thing it was $400 for each class ($1600) and then I think the textbook was about $200, which covers all the classes and then some.

    ground hornets

For future reference, my grandad swears by using hot water, he leaves his hose out in the sun with it full of water for a day and then hoses the nest down with the water. He didn't get murdered by hornets, so I guess it works decently.
  19. So I guess my bumper I ordered last summer was missing part of the bracket? I only got the two long pieces but not those two smaller ones. Great bumper though, many a tree have met their demise while I've turned my truck around on some dead end trails.
  20. Does a '94 XJ use that fuel pump ballast on the drivers side fender?
  21. I picked this up a few weeks ago but wasn't sure what direction i was going to go with it, as of now I figure I'll fix this little base model 88 swb into a nice little DD/work truck. So far I've just done the standard new-to-me car procedure; drain and refill of all fluids/checking of other fluids. Drained about 1 and a half small coffee cans of oil out of the engine, and used the can of seafoam I've had for about 4 years. It helped even out my idle but I still call it snake oil, I'd just as soon do a water mist into the intake than buy a can of the stuff again. It was originally a silver truck, shame they went with black. One PO painted the red interior yellow, and then the next owner painted it black, over the yellow, so now its patchy yellow/black inside. Oh and the company that owned it made this funky flat tailgate for advertising and did a latch delete on it. Right now its waiting for me to do brake lines. one day off a week while working two jobs means I always get lots of work done every week. :fs2: (the HO head is for my chief)
  22. Yeah, I toss cans and other trash out the slider into that big ol trash can but I've never found anything back there that I didn't recognize as my own stuff.
  23. the square one with 4 male prongs on it looks to be the tps as yxmj said; should be a female connector on your throttle body for it to connect to. I think that the flat connector is for the Crankshaft position sensor, the other end of that should be somewhere on the fuel rail near the firewall iirc.
  24. As a follow up; does anyone make stickers other than the eliminator ones they sell on Jeepstickers? It'd be nice to be able to 'easily' re-chief my truck at some point.
  25. So I drove my comanche for the first time in 6 months last night. Had to install a t-case drop to get my t-case to fit due to my ax15 having the YJ(?) clocking. REALLY hoping this won't be an issue once I get my driveshaft on. Bet you can't tell where it was hitting the floor. (I love my airhammer) Lucky me I had this patch kit laying around so I didn't have to run around with a header dump until I had exhaust money. Planning on having the pipe shortened and doing a pre-runner dump out of the quarter panel forward of the rear wheel. Love the way the AX15 sits, always liked how high the shifter was in my highboy and this kinda reminds me of it, seems more truck-like.
