don't your need to either unplug the battery for a few minutes or 51 key-on cycles to reset the warning lights. I know this is true for the chk engine, but not sure about the brake warning

Fast Idle/ Transmission Problems
james750 replied to jjcomanche44's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
fast idle problem is the IAC motor -
Did any comanches come from factory with waggy xj grill and headlights, are they bolt ons? that waggy xj front clip is sick. What years did the xj have the waggy style?

Cool custom AW-4 controller idea
james750 replied to Kenosha Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So you r trying to route the TCU controls through a manual shifter rather than a bank of switches for esentialy a clutchless manual? i think you would have to modify the maual shifter quite a bit to make that work.. -
Check ur high and low needle adjusments along with idle adjustments. a needle valve could be stuck too lean or rich. When i raced irok goped scooters i always used MS98 98 octane race fuel that i purchased at the local drag strip. This is the best stuff to use in any small engine. most performance small engines require 94+ octane fuel and no higher than 112 octane. also, check to make sure the throttle flap inside the carb is not sticking just a little bit, this can cause the engine to bog until it is warm enough to run. Hope this helps. PS:this probably isnt the problem, but it could be a weak spark due to a out of place magneto. the best way to measure and space the magneto is to loosen it, place 3 pieces of paper between the flywheel and magneto, and push the magneto down onto that and tighten the screws, remove the paper.

I think the guy just told me that b/c he didnt even know what the part was, he typed things in on the computer for nearly 5 minutes asking if i had a manual or auto, type of engine, type of front axle (not sure what this has to do with finding the right iac), etc. and then told me it was a dealer part.

Remove the vacuum lines. Plug the ports at the transfer case. Remove the shift motor from the axle, manually lock up the sliding sleeve, move the fork over and shim it with washers to hold it in the engaged position. Is there a down side to this option when being a daily driver? Thanks for all your input guys. :D Best option for sliding the fork over IMO (this is what i did to mine, it is a dd and it has no affect as long as when u lock it u choose selectable lockers) pull the cad and remove the c-clip on the side, slide the fork into the locked position, place c-clip back in thus locking it in this mode. reinstall. PLUG VACCUUM LINES!!! (i forgot this vital step at first. it keeps it so there is no vaccuum leak, and ur part time light will work ;) I had a thread about this on JF let me see if i can find it.

I think they were just pissed off b/c they had to go pick up trash (punishment at the school) and shoved it up there b/c it one of the only pipes big enough to fit a Gatorade bottle, wendys bag, and wendys cup.

For me it was listed in the computer as an IAC valve at all 3 auto stores i went to. Carquest: $120, Napa:"Dealer Part Only" , Checker $60 :D and in stock!
-
Did you just clean it or replace it? I tried cleaning it, that didnt work, so i replaced it. :D
-
cool that fixed it thanx!
-
IAC? ill check to see if it is sticking...

its just very upsetting to me that someone would mess with the truck, what r they gonna do next it makes me think.
-
ok, so when i first start up my mj the throttle revs up super high and stays there until li shut it off, restart it, and press on the gas. Is this TPS, CPS??
-
Well, today I went down to the mj after school to find my tailpipe had been stuffed full of trash. $&%$*%*$% :headpop:
-
I had a gopher living in mine, well, until the dogs discovered it. Glad i wasnt there when the mechanic discovered that one. he said it was messy. RIP MR.GOPHER :ack: :rotf:

Thanx for the diagrams chico, they will definitely help...
-
But does this ground control the front light. Since only one light is affected I'm thinking much less that it is a ground.
-
so does this mean that it can't be a ground but it must be the socket?
-
Nobody has any wiring diagrams?

parking brake cable tension
james750 replied to james750's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
checked the sheath on the upper line and it seems fine. yesterday the brakes failed when i was on a slope though, people looked at me as though i was crazy chasing my truck down the hill  But i caught up to it in time, jumped in and hit the brakes. for times like this i wish I had an auto with PARK. The engine was idling so i couldnt put it in gear. scary few seconds though, i think that theyr sticking but i don't know how, maby ill just try lubing the cables to see if that fixes the problem -
That would be tough, looking at it it seems really easy to operate a fork lift until your behind the operators seat trying to get the forks to just the right height and pitch and then in my case manuevering a now 20 ft long piece of machinery (fork lift and skid) through a tiny warehouse. It took me a while to get it down where i work and I'm still really really slow at operating it. i couldnt imagine unloading a whole truck in 20 mins, it takes me 20 minutes to move 3 skids at best. it sure was fun though the first time i drove one. :chillin:

Pete I sent an email from james750@gmail.com. Thanks for the help!

it doesnt look as though the body damage is too severe, i don't think they would total it over that. Is there engine damage?
