Jeep Eliminator Emblem Template?
GirsMJ86 replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
http://jeepsticker.com/mj.htm The ones here are correct. I had Spencer make these up a few years back for my '91 since he said he couldn't do the '91 style decals at the time. http://comancheclub.com/topic/1903-91-eliminator-4x4/?p=47773 -
I found plenty of write-ups on Naxja and around the web when I was looking into this last year. Those posts were from early 2012.

Should always carry a few with you when you go off roading. They do great at removing boulders you might get hung up on, fallen trees, rockslides, avalanches. Oh wait, maybe they cause a few of those. Eh, adds to the fun of the terrain.

New Shocks, Monroe Sensa Track Load Levelers
GirsMJ86 replied to airspeed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Couldn't say, I've never seen a 16gal tank on a LWB either. I know the option was there, though not sure why anyone would have ever taken it and it seems most didn't in my experience. -

I'd wager they are right around there. The trucks are not kept at my house so I couldn't check to be sure, but I do remember thinking they were awfully big when I installed them last summer. I don't have a pic, but I laid them next to the stock ones I took off and there was probably a good inch or more in width with those springs. -

Just so anyone interested can see, here are pics of them installed on a stock LWB with the 23gal tank. The spring comes very very close to the tank, and it was actually even crushing the solid brake lines against the frame (that's them you see yanked down). The truck does not get driven though so I've not bothered trying to make more clearance, if it was I would have yanked them back off and returned them. -
1969 J20 - Atkinson, Nh - $1400
GirsMJ86 replied to NHMJXJ's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
idk That truck doesn't look to be in that great of shape. And unless there is proof, the mileage probably rolled over actually since it only shows 5 out. J-Trucks don't pull a lot, and it would take more than it's worth to get it back into top shape. Unless whatever this Velocity show is tells you the secret to making a fortune off rust buckets, I wouldn't even give 1k for that thing since I've seen much nicer ones sell for that. I'd grab the grille, badges, and light lenses then walk away. Also to note, the T-18 is a 4spd where 4th is actually OD instead of the standard 3spd w/o OD 1st is a low granny gear that the 3spd doesn't have. Had that bit with OD wrong, not sure why that was stuck in my head. -
Heist gone awry.

Welcome to the club, er cult I think we actually decided awhile back. You're basically posting a wanted ad, so toss one up in the classifieds wanted section. Try to list specifics like engine, tranny, swb/lwb, stuff like that. I would have thought you'd find more then only two around that area, I got my old '91 from up that way. Get an ad up and I'm sure you'll find one easy enough. I would say you should come buy mine, two for the price of one. I'm right at the 5hr one way mark from Chicago though, so possibly even longer for you. Best of luck.

Where are you? Solid or slider? Factory 3pc slider or aftermarket 4pc?

Why Do These Always Happen So Far From Me!!!
GirsMJ86 replied to skidoo_j's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Yup, they are mine. Your title sounds like my complaint most the time. You guys out west get ones in so much better shape then us here, for less then what they go for around here to boot! Crazy. Have had them posted on the club for awhile now (http://comancheclub.com/topic/40334-1986-and-1988-oh-2000/), taking a pretty big hit on price with that club offer but I'm starting to catch some serious flak from my father for having them sitting in his driveway for so long and would rather see them go to a club member then someone on CL. And I really need to get a running/driving/reliable car since I have nothing at the moment. I've pretty much laid things out on them, but have had zero interest pretty much. Someone offered me $2000 for just the '88, but the weather has prevented a deal from happening and have not heard anything for a couple weeks now from him. So back to square one. The wooden bezel, factory fog lights, and a few other parts I have won't be going with them. And if they are still sitting with no interest in a month or so, someone here on the club is bringing black buckets to swap with the bench seat. Then if they are still just sitting come summer... the '86 will probably get scrapped (after I slowly gut the interior/remove roll bar) and I'm going to try my best to just get the '88 fixed up. I'd really hate to see the '88 go since it's sitting exactly how I want an MJ, other then not being an auto, but I just can't do it anymore right now. I'm pretty much living on pain meds until insurance gets straightened out so I can get back on the real medication, but I've been off it for so many years now there is no guarantee it will work again, and the next step is basically surgery if it's bad enough and can't be brought back under control. Has not been a fun past year for me. -
If you do the CAD fix, the light won't work at all. So if you absolutely feel you need that light to know you are in 4WD, you need to find the vac issue. Like cruiser, I have done the fix to every CAD axle since that one in the write-up and just don't care about the light.

This really doesn't have anything to do with MJs specifically since IMO they have a decent console for between the buckets, but I'm looking for a console to stick between some buckets in a Police Interceptor. I thought about yanking one out of a 2000 style Explorer, or maybe from a 97+ XJ (except finding something to fill the shifter hole would be a pain I'd imagine), and there are plenty of aftermarket ones to pick from. So I'm looking for opinions on ones you've maybe used in your rigs. I would prefer something sturdy, with cup holders that work well (something deep enough water bottles don't fall over) since the factory ones suck, and a decent storage bin under the arm rest, as well as a good way to hold it in place (not just using self tapping screws preferred). Oh, and cup holders on the back for the rear seats would be a plus, but not required. Pics would be awesome if you've got any, even just pics from online. I want to stay away from ebay, would prefer to be able to walk into a store and buy it, but ordering from Summit or somebody would be okay. Not looking for a police style console since I have no use for CB mounts and the like, the thing is a DD so looking for something more casual. The thing doesn't even necessarily have to be aftermarket. If you had a vehicle with a center console you really enjoyed that would work for between bucket seats, let me know and maybe I can get lucky in a junkyard. Figured this info could help those swapping to buckets but can't find or don't want the factory console as well.

Seats! Who Has What In Their Mj
GirsMJ86 replied to farmerjohnson's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Other than being power, those looks exactly the same as Eliminator and XJ seats (see mine above) so I'm guessing '80s Grand Wagoneer. The headrests I have are XJ only, otherwise the ones in the Eliminators are exactly like yours. Both my '88 and '91 Eliminators had grey ones identical to my XJ ones other than the headrests. My dad has an 88 laredo he bought off the lot with those same seats with what your calling xj only headrests so i guess my question is did the dealership add the headrests to my dads seats? If that is indeed the case, than that would be the first I've seen that. Like I said above, headrests were both the solid kind in an '88 and '91 Eliminator which pretty much covers the years. Maybe the ones with the holes were a Laredo thing. It's hard to say without documentation, I've only ever seen them in XJs though. The headrests are interchangeable though. -

The 4.0 is standard on the Eliminators, as were full gauges, bucket seats, special Eliminator wheels, SWB, graphics, and probably a few other things. It was also 2wd only until '91, then you could get it in 4x4 if you wanted. As said above though, I've seen several Eliminators with a 5spd so that was probably optional. And because you could order all kinds of weird combos, I've even seen a bench seat in an Eliminator. Prime example of this is the '86 "X" sitting in my drive. If I didn't know it was an X, it is optioned out like almost every XLS I've ever seen. But I've got the build sheet to prove it's an X.

Engine Broken In, Oil Suggestions
GirsMJ86 replied to comanche1989's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I took Don's advice and switched to the Delo 400 and I gotta say it seems great. My 200k+ engine runs a bit quieter (still a noisy 4.0 diesel) but it's what I'll always be running in my 4.0s from now on. Just for reference I went with a Wix filter since I couldn't find the extended Purolators in my rinky-dink area. -

XJ seats, basically the same as Eliminator seats (they even fold forward). I frikkin love these things. Only seats I've had that were better were the leather ones in my AWD Talon, those things hugged in ways I never would imagine stock seats to do. Adjustable bolster top and bottom and adjustable lumbar. Would love to stick a set of those in anything I own. -
http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/4291439851.html That's a good looking rig, if only it were 4x4 and 4.0L. Oh, and auto. Love that color, inside and out. Mileage isn't listed though, so not sure where you got 82k. If you can make out that blurry obscured odometer then you've better eyes than I.

What 4x4 pattern are you shifting into? 4x4 Full Time or 4x4 Part Time? And the wording is kind of backwards IMO. Full Time means you can use it all the time, even on dry pavement, because the differential in the t-case isn't locked. Part Time means you should only use it part of the time and never on dry pavement because the diff is locked and will cause damage to the t-case. You shouldn't have a CAD in the front axle since you have Selec-trac, but I've seen them there for one reason or another. If you do have one, you'll want to lock that over and I bet it will solve your issue. Otherwise you've got something wrong with your pumpkin I'd say. 228's are sort of hard to find since they were 86 only. You could swap in a 229 which is used in selec-trac rigs after 86. You could even swap in a 231 if you don't care about full time, or a 242 if you want even newer full time. You'll need to deal with drive shaft length differences though. I believe you could even swap in the older 208s which are full time I think.

Yup, that paint 100% ruins it. I mean come on, the idiot painted over the emblems, rhino grille, pie plates, the front bumper, everything. Those "steps" are stupid and I wouldn't trust a 5yr old kid to stand on them. All the extra stuff that shouldn't be there is bad. And those repairs look awful. With all the work that would have to be done to truly restore it and undo his trash, I'd offer him $500. If he wanted an M-715 he should have found one rather than ruin a nice J truck. Oh, and it has a Fram on it. The guy clearly knows nothing.

I was thinking something like that but make it so the gate opens and folds down to become the seat, normally nothing being there. Could have the compartment idea to act as a cover for the flat retro boat vinyl seat attached to the inside of the gate. I also think on the Jeep ones, make the legs angle out and form the traditional Jeep trapezoid wheel well shape. Though that might be going too far... unless you offer them as a "luxury" model.

Rockauto has owner's manuals, or are they actually not something available anymore? Last I saw they were reprints, and about $15 or so. They also have shop manuals, disc PDF form even.

I'd also suggest doing this as a future project if you've not done so already. Will brighten up your lights and take most the load off the headlight switch. This is something every MJ/XJ owner should do if ya ask me. http://www.eautoworks.com/Putco-H4--9003-Heavy-Duty-Headlight-Upgrade-Wiring-Harness-PRD7540.aspx Can find more info about it around here as quite a few members have done it and provided pics and such.

If I wasn't trying to get rid of both my trucks I'd grab a pair for sure, in plain aluminum. Don't need anything fancy that would raise cost, we are Jeep owners after all, even the logos sound fancy to me. Just beveled edge solid ones or only including the lines like the factor ones would make me more than happy. Anyways, rather than move this you should make a new topic. Maybe with a poll to help you decide all the options you're thinking about. Would go in the Tech section I believe since it is MJ part related.
