Setting pinion Angle on rear axle install
CWLONGSHOT replied to hogelectra's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm almost positive I have a spare flange. I would just need to find it. Incase you strike out... As for the angle I always set it so its just pointing down from straight. So under power when the springs torque flex its straight pointing at the back of the Tcase. CW -
I would use the XJ valve. CW

Pat, You sound like me before the heart attack!! My wife always warned me to calm down or I would blow a gasket... DAMN... I just realized, that means she was right AGAIN!!! Sit back and have a beer and look things over... CALM, its better for your heart!!. Anyhow, I changed the oil on the MJ today. Didn't realize I was out of WIX filters and was stuck... I just fired up the TJ and took her for a spin!! Its been three months since she was started!!! SO, I got the parts and she got a quick wash!!! Got home and finished the oil change and all is well again!! CW

Try a SUPERSOAKER!!! You could even get fancy and rig up a washer sprayer to the bottom edge of the front fender. Pres the button and squirt the bugger!! I used to ride bicycles alot and a water bottle full of water right in the face would stop the biggest toughest dog. It suprizes them and they don't know what to do, at least long enough for you to get clear. That or maybe the .59 cent solution, a .45. :shake: :brows: CW

GREAT TIP!! Thnaks, how well did it work? You don't really get cold cold down there in Florida... But how was the noise after the install? CW

The doc OK'd me for more activities. Including driving!!! So we went for a drive!! I went up to Cabela's and walked around. Then drove to Hospital (work) and had lunch with the guys. Then headed to do some Valentines shopping for the wife and finally the car wash and had the ol' girl washed up!! Now I'm home waiting for my Salad with left over Salmon from last night and a bottle of water. Oh yum... CW

Are you sure the wheels are the same?? Pull the rear tires/wheels and measure from WMS to frame on both sides. (Put a straight edge across the WMS pointing straight up. Then measure from it to the frame.) CW

Thats exactly how I did mine!! CW

No, all D30 are NOT the same. Many parts are, but as a whole, NO they are not. History has proven the D35 isnt the strongest of jeep rears. Def not the best choice for a wheeler. Will it hold up, who knows. I have personally seen a couple go a long time with abuse and 35" tires. I have also personally blown one on the street with 31's. Early V8 ZJs used them too. Somewhere in the middle is the truth. One thing is for absolute certainty, don't put any money into one. If you do blow it, use it to you advantage and UPGRADE. CW

I agree, Its just a manufacturer thing... anything with in a couple percent either way is just fine. CW

Eagle, We got to remember you, Taz, that guy in Maine, me and a couple others are the "over 40 club" on here ... don't get me wrong, I too find it hard to read these threads, but these "kids" like it and do it all the time. I have been talking to some of my Neices and Nephews on facebook and an getting more used to it. CW

Depending on the amount of your lift. You can likely do just the lower or upper... Again, depending on how much you need. Also on the amount of caster. I have found up to 10* OK on a lifted jeep. But your DS angle will not like that much. Generally jeeps like it closer to 10* the taller they get. 7*-8* is good for stock to couple inches of lift. Toe-in is easily done with a couple pieces of known straight stock. I like 48" alum angle iron. I keep two pieces for just this propose. I use little bungie cords to attach them to the rims. set them so that they are parallel to the ground and in the center of the wheel. measure the back and front then adjust to as much as 1/4" closer in the front as pong suggested. Works GREAT and is WAY EASY!!! CW

Those perches are EASILY adjusted to fit any dia axle tube you need. Besides for the UNDER $10 bucks a set, they are a HUGE bargin as well!!! I have put them on three different axles now, no problems making them fit. Couple mins a side with a HS grinder and your ready to weld. :D CW

You guys make me laugh!! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :shake: CW

I made the doc laugh during the last appointment. We got talking about what I do and who I am. I guess in an effort to se how active I really was. We talked about my Jeeps, job and my work with local law enforcement. We spoke about how a heart attack makes a person really look at what they do and what they eat. He spoke about depression that is often associated and living in fear of too much salt or fat content. I told him, thats just not me and I was never one to live in fear. The topic came back to the treadmill and the stress test. I told him I was big into weight training some 25years ago but never a runner, I'm not built for it. He said "so you never ran". I told him heck no, I carry a gun. I don't run! :D He liked my answer. I don't know how much actual treadmill I will see. He did say it will not be a normal test as it was supposed to help me not kill me! They will be injecting something necular into me?? Oh fun... CW

XJ shock set ups are totally different. You MIGHT be able to cut one off and re-weld it to work, but as they are no they are not useable. They are stagered, one in front and one behind the axle. CW

Stock/Factory Overload or Helper springs?
CWLONGSHOT replied to phenryiv1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
DEFINEATELY DEFINATELY DEFINEATELY!!! Also don't forget NEW Ubolts and nuts, its not safe to te-use the old ones. CW -
Mine too!! Once I'm better, I want to rework the steep angle I have mine at. Since the addition of the new leafs. I am getting a bit of reverb after a bump. I'm thinking that the severe angle is negating some of the rebound in the shocks. When I made the upper mount, I drilled for multiple mounting points. But because my shocks are a bit long, I'll have to rework my lower mounts to compensate. Fun little project. CW
