I need some measurements..
WahooSteeler replied to 88manche4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
oops, that he did, that he did. thanks for the info. -
Quite honestly, that was exactly my first thought when I saw you looking at the 'Burban, because I was thinking the same thing as mfpm, i.e. with the amount of price drop lately, you might be able to find one for $10k. I just thought it seemed like your list of wants and needs was more geared to a 4 door pickup. I'd bet there is a Powerstroke Excursion one out there for $10k. :D

Ok, finally just about got the interior buttoned up with everything that needed attention. The only thing holding me back from putting the dash back together is my dabgum radio and clock. The faceplate was missing from the Sony HU that was in there when I bought it. Got a super nice Pioneer deck for $50 on ebay, checked the harness on the Sony that was in there, same # of wires and colors as the Pioneer harness. I even clipped off the old harness below the previous connections so I would know what was left, right, front, rear etc. Anyhoo, as another note to the frustration of this, before I pulled the old HU out, my clock worked fine, i.e. memory intact. In fact, while I was working on the radio is when I noticed the clock not working so for awhile I thought the clock was broken independently. So, this is pretty basic stuff, and there are only so many wires available back in the radio hole. I matched up all the colors, of which the only ones that really matter are the yellow, red and black, right? Well, it wasn't that simple. Nothing seemed to get it juiced. Then one time I hooked up the yellows (battery) with the reds (accessories) and temporarily put them all together in a wire nut just to see if that worked. Whoila! Radio works, and "oh, what's that, clock works now too?!" It didn't seem right, but it was working. When I shut the ignition off for a few minutes to mess with something else, I noticed the radio and clock had no memory when I turned it back on to listen to the radio again. That's actually been a couple of months ago, and I just deal with having to reset all the radio settings every time I get in the truck. But now that everything else is done, this has to be fixed. Suggestions?? :wall:

Can't say I disagree with the Green Man. Back then it wasn't as big a deal to do non-turbo because the 7.3 and the 6.5 were both V8s so they were higher revving and had better acceleration than a typical diesel, but also gave up some true low-end grunt. As much as I'm a GM man, the 7.3 was head and shoulders above the 6.5. It essentially is International Trucks T444 engine. A few minor differences but it's International's engine. (The recent 6.0 is International's VT365). Funny thing though, in the commercial truck industry, that engine was considered a dog, but in "light duty" applications, i.e. 3/4 ton pickups, it was well recieved. Again, as a V8 it wasn't best suited to haul around 26k pounds all day in a Class 6 straight truck. I thought the first 4dr Dodges came out in late 90s, so with them not coming out 'til '03, that kinda prices them out of the picture huh?

STOLEN! My 88 MJ chief (RECOVERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
WahooSteeler replied to LJRockstar's topic in The Pub
Told YA :D Chico, how much did you sell the stereo for? :rotfl2: -
1. Can't think of a diesel that ISN'T Turbo 2. Would a 4 door pickup work? 3. Definitely do 4x4, for resale value alone, even if you keep it a long time 4. Gotta go back awhile to get diesel in anything BUT 3/4 ton 5. Easy 6. I know it won't be easy but a few grand more might be worth it to get an early Dodge Cummins or GM D-Max w/some miles on it You probably know more about the 6.5 GM's than I do, but I never heard many good things about them, and I'm a GM fan. The 6.2 was a real dog, but I don't think the 6.5 was a whole lot better. Basically a gas engine converted to diesel. Just food for thought.

I need some measurements..
WahooSteeler replied to 88manche4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So that's center of hub to lower edge of flare, right? I assume this is for 4x4's? So, a full 3" of rake up front in stock position. -
Like mfpm, a lot of memories on this thread for me. This is one of the 4 on my list that "got away", more on that later. My dad's real estate company had a 72 Chevy 4x4 for it's property mgt dept. When they replaced it in '81 Dad brought it home to use around the house. I remember, vividly, shortly after that when winter hit dad coming home one day with 10-15's mounted on white spokes. Man I was so excited, I thought that was the coolest truck ever. It had a 307 V8 and 4 spd manual. I learned to drive a clutch on that truck! Needless to say, he sold it a few years later to the body shop mgr of the local dealer. IR I can get my hands on one again, I'm all over it. But as already said, it's a hot rebuild right now so even ones in decent shape around here are bringing strong money, i.e. several thousand dollars. I looked hard for one for awhile before falling in to the MJ scene. Anyway, let me exit off of memory lane here. Aftermarket support should be there. Since it's right there on your property already, I say do a little PM work on the rust, get it inside or cover it up, and get to it when the time and money is available. That body style is a true classic IMO, don't let it go. ;)

Well, good to hear from you despite the recent setbacks. Hang in there the best you can, we'll be thinking of you.

And your response should have been "Then move." If this picture is a realistic look at what is normally parked there, to effen bad for them. I'll admit, it's a parking lot, but if they're all plated and driveable, tuff shizzle. I'd say "it could be worse", but that is a huge understatement. They're not on jack stands, they're not half taken apart (with parts lying around etc), and they're not "legal but driveable" junk. What if you were the Brady Bunch and everybody had their own car? :D

:agree: That paint may look like @$$ in person, but it looks cool as hell in the photo. Leave it.
-
.....or at least a dead Bigfoot lying around! :D Then you'll be rich from all your TV appearances and can buy mfpm's when it comes off the factory line again, errr, out of the garage!

leaf spring protection/paint??
WahooSteeler replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sandblasting prices will vary greatly I'm sure from shop to shop. A local place charges about $40 to sandblast a wheel, so hard to say. I'd bet $100 minimum, that's assuming you are going to break down the pack. If you are doing that, seems to me a little time with a wire wheel on the end of a power drill and a little elbow grease with a heavy wire brush should suffice before you rattle 'em with your favorite spray can. That's what I'm getting ready to do with that 6 leaf bastard pack I have for sale. :brows: That being said, MJeff told me when he painted the packs on his 87 he got a paint that has graphite in it so the packs would flex better, or something like that. You may want to PM him if he doesn't catch this post. Might be worth doing. -
Don't listen to JT, he's a 2 wheeler. A low-ridin' 2 wheeler at that. No self-respectin' 4 wheeler would intentionally keep that rake. :D I'm not a low riding 2 wheeler!!! I thought about it, but I think I'm going to stay where I'm at for now..... Might change, but I don't think a solid front beam would make a good low rider.. hummm who knows..... but still think the rake looks better even if it had a lift.. LMAO, yes you are JT, you just don't know it yet. Hey, but seriously you NEED to see your project through, cuz there really aren't any other street MJs going on around here, especially now that beaterjeep seems to be in a stall. (speaking of which, where's he been??) plus, now that you pointed out the solid front axle thing, you gotta break ground and put an independent front on it.

Not much has happened. Their press conference today had three DNA tests that showed one close to human, one close to possum, and one inconclusive. Scam...........

C'mon people!! If you've done this before, you know it's a great time. If you haven't, it's a great time! :D Seriously, Jim is setting this up as a very easy league, i.e. you don't have to go buy all the fantasy magazines and stuff for all your draft prep. Basically all you need to do is take 5 minutes every week and set your lineup. That's it! It will be fun to talk smack here on the forum about our matchups etc. It's free, and if you lose interest or whatever, no big deal, since I'm gonna win it all anyway! :brows: I think we still need 5 more by the 21st.

If you want something that might fall between the street tires you have and the super aggressive TrXus Taz has, I have Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's. An aggressive tread block for an "A/T" IMO, but they ride very well and are also very quiet. There are hundreds of choices obviously. IMO, tires appeal as much to individual taste as the wheels they are mounted on. Some just "fit the eye" better than others for each owner. But, the valuable part of the responses you'll get here relate to ride, handling and noise. Be sure to post up pics when you mount up whatever you get!

nice work, nice thread. keep the pics and details coming. what wheels are those? MT Classics? they are super nice.

OMG, that is funny as crap! But I'm with you, had a fear of the damn thing my whole life. I can't tell you how many times I 'bout crapped my pants from 12-18yrs old going to my deer stand in the pitch black of the morning waiting to be mauled by Bigfoot LOL. My closest lifelong friend is a big burly "man's man", and he is more afraid of Bigfoot than any other person on the planet.

not me........

I see how you roll now. Quality vs. quantity? Started the new position yet? How's it going?

ahh, the superwade deucy. good to hear from you.

LOL, yes. I was waiting to see how long it would take someone to ask. It is a photoshop that ? (i can't remember his screen name) from here did for me. That's what I hope to have done within the next year. Whaddyathink?
