  1. Eagle, you are an educated and experienced man, but I have to tell you that you are somewhat off base on your viewpoints with retreads. I ran commerical rental truck fleets for 8 years for a very large and successful company that had never run commercial trucks before. So, when our first trucks (mostly Class 6 straight trucks) were needing their first drive axle tire replacements, I approached the coroporate powers to be about running caps. The company is very conservative and super sensitive to liability exposure. Basically they "commissioned" me to research and prove to them the safety of retreaded tires. To make a long story short, I presented a stack of articles, tests, research and so on that covered every facet of retreaded tires. One of the more interesting studies I presented to them involved the public's misperception that the majority of gators strewn across the highways were from failed retreads. That is incorrect. I don't remember ALL of the details of the study, but it was conducted over an 1100 mile stretch of highway for something like a year or more. In the end, the majority of gators picked up off of the highway were from.................original tires. And the number was even higher for passenger car tires, although that should be logical because the % of passenger cars on the road running caps is very low. And what was determined to be the number one cause of failure? Air pressure. Specifically, underinflation. And, that number soared for passenger car tires. I want to say it was something like 90+ % of passenger tire failures were due to low air pressure vs. simple product failure. Anyway, that little nugget of info was probably the most influential on my corporate liability department to give me the green light on starting a cap and casing program for our fleet. Now, you are definitely correct that the process, equipment, and standards used to produce caps at Joe's tire shop and Bandag or similar companies are drastically different. The biggest difference is the testing done to find potential defects in the casings. So using a reputable company with a tried and true cap process is one of the 2 keys to safe retread use. The other key falls on the end user to keep them properly inflated at all times. In the @6yrs I ran a cap and tire program on two different fleets I oversaw, with a combined total of @400 trucks, I think we had less than 10 failures. Of those I think maybe 2 or 3 were straight failures, the others were long term rentals (6 mos or longer) where the customer failed to keep them properly inflated. From the looks of it, Treadright has a good product. It never hurst to do a little more research in to their history if someone feels the need. Bottom line is, your kids ride on retreads every day on their school bus, your Christmas packages brought to you by UPS are riding on retreads, and your garbage is hauled away on retreads. So they are a great product when used and maintained properly. They reduce operating expense and they help save petroleum by only needing to produce a tread cap and not a whole tire. Oh, which reminds me of another important point to make, we did not run caps on our steer axle. As I recall there are certain rules and regs to be able to run caps on a steer axle having to do with amount of highway use and avg. speed of vehicle etc. That's why the only trucks you see with caps up front are low speed, i.e. buses, pkg delivery, dump trucks, garbage trucks, etc.

  4. Ok, I should have paid more attention to the rules at the beginning of the season. First of all, only 4 teams going to the playoffs in a 12 team league is beat, IMO. I've always liked the following layout: playoffs begin in week 14. best record of regular season gets a bye, and the next6 best records get in. that way more people get in on the fun. also, a lot of leagues i've played in then have a "Toilet Bowl". Worst record goes straight to the Toilet Bowl, next 4 bottom feeders fight it out to get to there. Also, I looked at the rules, for the first time, and I don't know if the tie breaker criteria is what was in place on nfl.com when we opened the league, or if Jim changed them. It says first tie breaker is winning %. Uhhhh, if you're tied, you'll have the same winning %. Next is total points. That should be third or fourth tiebreaker IMO. First tie breaker is always head to head, second is usually divisional record, and then it's usually points. I know this was just for fun and all, so that's why I'm just making some suggestions for next year so more people get to "keep the dream alive"! And just in the spirit of some end of the season smack talk, if it was based on the "normal" tie breaker criteria, Meat Curtains would be in and Maddzz would be out. I'm just saying.................
  5. I'm with ya. Looks great, having the silver bumper on there ties it together. I like what you did with the gate. I assumed yu were going to do the flares silver, which I think would look good. But if they are going to be black, and the front bumper is going to have black end caps, then the cab vents should be black. Again, just my own personal taste. Either way, it is sharp! :clapping:
  6. Gotchya! Yeah, once the other accent details like bumper, hood and stripes, it may work well. All that matters is that you like it!
  7. :hijack:  Coool-ell! Thanks for quick post back. Excellent looking rig dude. Different paint scheme so that's cool too and make you stand out. So those are your winter tires? Do you run something different summertime then I assume? My eagle eye detects a bit of shine on your right front wheel in your avatar, are those Canyons? I.e., need more pics if you have a second set of wheels/tires you run. But, to shut down our thread hijack here, how bout going to the "Introduce your Comanche" sticky in The Pub and re-post all of your pics. Then Chico will come out of the kitchen and give you your O-fficial CC welcome. :chillin:
  8. Is that a CJ10 airport tow mule I see in one of the first pictures? Delta Airlines? Gotta share that one too dude......
  9. I dig it. In some pics it looks deep blue, in others you see the purple. The silver does exactly what you want it to. IMO the cab vents need to be std black. There are certain plastic accent pieces on cars that only work as black, just like it came off the line. MJ cab vents are one of those items. Plus, whether you have black bumpers or chrome (which IMO is the way to go with those bold colors) I assume you'll have black end caps and the black cab vents will tie in nicely with the front and rear bumpers. When I look at that truck, I'd swear I'm looking at the '84 S-10 blue and silver two-tone my family had. Especially with those 5 spokes which were the same as the S-10s. Keep the pics coming, looks great!
  10. Rockyrider, in that tiny little avatar it appears you have a very nice rig. We'd all love to see some pics..........
  11. I still don't know all of the details of it, but soon will learn. But, probably the best answer is, go ahead and hold your breath as long as you can right now, when you have to take air go ahead and do it. Then, wait 10-15mins and do it again. Repeat this process for 6-8hrs straight. Let's put it in mechanical speak. Never shut your truck off, i.e. let the engine run 24-7-365. Sure, it idles a good bit of the time and is not being run hard, but if you NEVER shut it down completely and let the engine and all of it's INTERNAL PARTS "rest", they will wear out quicker. Worse, they may wear out without you knowing it, you just think it's running a little rough and then all of a sudden one day, the engine gives out unexpectedly. Not trying to be dramatic, it just made a lot of sense, even to me, when I put it in those terms. Basically, it is known to contribute to high blood pressure, heart disease and other serious ailments if never treated properly. **Edit, and as Pete notes below, you are starving your brain of oxygen.
  12. GOOD MORNING COMANCHE CLUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. Well, first off, thanks for the kind words fellas. As Fubar said, apnea can be serious stuff and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to be tested. Anyhoo, about 2.5 hrs after I was asleep they came in to put the CPAP mask on me, so I guess I had already shown enough symptoms to hook me up. Even with all that crap on me, I was able to relax and sleep and I must say when they woke me up at 6am I felt better than I have in a long time. It's funny though, I actually got a little depressed on the way home wondering how long I've been dragging around thinking I was "just tired" because I'm overweight, stressed out with young kids, and staying up too late, yet none of that mattered because I was never getting a deep productive type of sleep. Hell, it could have been years! Better late than never!!
  13. being native virginian, that's the second thing i do if it doesn't make sense on the first read. i'm surprised that made it thru, they usually catch those. i tried a few bad ones on the dmv site and none of them were approved
  14. Well I'm in the hospital for an overnight stay. I've been putting this off for awhile but i'm having a sleep study done tonight to confirm if I have sleep apnea. been watching the game, surfing on CC and dozing off. so now they want me to go to sleep with a hundred wires hooked up to me and listen to me snore LOL. i'll report back tomorrow.
  15. :clapping: i still need to order, but even though i wanted 1 TON MJ, I am going to get JEEP MJ because that was my second choice but also the winner of the poll. Plus, I'd say it is a high probability that the other will still be there later.
  16. :rotfl2: Yeah, but with 18 of 'em, you have 2 "extra" wheels right now. :hmm:

IMO if they don't add 12-18" on the back of that thing, it will be short lived. I think it is cool, but there is no 2dr vehicle on the road today with a bath tub sized open cargo area. Plenty of 4dr units with that same bath tub in the back that can haul the family around during the week and 5 bags of mulch on the weekend, but I don't see a 2dr version of that concept living more than a few years. :dunno:
  18. :rotfl2: You need to join the circus.
  19. Hehehe, I have a total of 18 silverstars. So sell the guy two of 'em would ya? Ya damn packrat! :fool:  No, they are mine. That's cold dude, cold. :thwak:

  22. Black, Other acceptable alternative would be White... I'm a Husker Fan and you don't see my painting my Flares Red (even though they have sucked for a few years). How about rainbow/snowcone?
  23. AH my Eyes... opps sorry, just those purple flares... :hijack: :jump:
  24. Me 3.5. First, I DO think it was ok for him to post a link to his sale in this thread. I posted a link to general blackfriday sale info when i started the thread and him posting another link for a sale that just so happened to be his own, I don't have a problem with that. Of course 89eliminator planted the seed for him (he should have just posted the link himself. for those of you that don't know Wade#1 is good friends with the guys at MO (which is no big deal to me). Second, I said "me 3.5" because while I think MO has been a valuable source of info on many topics, it usually ends with self promotion, and that has always rubbed me the wrong way too. Most people, i.e. even new members, can figure out real quick that MO is a retailer. So, IMO, MO should take the approach of being an active member here and letting the members come to them for purchases if they choose. If MO wants to post in the Classifieds on a regular basis, I don't see why they can't. But using regular thread topics to drive sales I'm not down with. IMO, if MO wants to be a "exlusive rights, paid sponsor" of our site, then he's earned the right to run a banner ad or push his products in classifieds.
