Brush guards and bumper comparability
ScottJeep replied to Comanche 87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Have seen some of the OLD Warn Transformer guard on occasion on eBay. They look the best. Someone on here has it one theirs... it's a thing of beauty. ( I looked and looked and could not find it. ) http://comancheclub.com/topic/38117-comanche-of-the-month-april-2013/ I went old school and it was only $17 at the PAP cause I am cheap. It's only the center section. -
Gauges swap with column shift - problem fixed
ScottJeep replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I also went chop chop chop with I think tin snip and/or my dremel. Had to touch up just a bit I basically measured the old one...scribbed the "new" one and went to work. Take your time it can easily be done. -
ROCKAUTO.COM ( I'm not the only one.....right?) Tanks, Straps, I THOUGHT they had the J-Bolts but not listed anymore. Thinking the XJ ones would work. But don't quote me on that. Also the fill & vent hoses.... I thought I had replaced....but not in my parts folders so....maybe I'm just mistaken. You are correct on your thoughts about assembly. Just use a little MMO as your lube on the hoses.

ROCKAUTO.COM ( Thinking the one I bought was like $40 ) You will most likely use very bad words on the mounting bolts. Torx bit....We Love Them! ( Not Really ) IF yours is bent/tweaked a bit I would recommend buying the two mounting brackets as well. They should not break the bank either.

^^ What they said ^^ My experience....last MJ 87' model. Cracked front windshield when I got it. Went to the local "DIY Auto Recycler" armed with a new pair of thick gloves and three brand new extendable blades razor knifes and picked out the nicest/newest I could find from the nicest/newest Cherokee. Took my time cut, cut, cut, cut.... push, lift, grab, carry. $40 out their door. Three old comforters for the ride home. The most nerve racking part. One phone call to a local one-guy-glass-dude my work uses. $80 later installed including new style rubber molding. Done and done. Plan to do the same in the future for the current one. When the weather is not quite so hot here. If I go alone I use the razor knifes. If I have a rare but sometimes partner. Bike cable for the cutting. A couple of the PAP here in the ATL even have the "cheap glass installs here" shops right on the property.

Hello and I could use some advice!
ScottJeep replied to Soulesonic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Test everything with a volt meter and or test light. Def disconnect the ground wire you found and clean and then reconnect. -
Well I've done the swap. Works. Have verified the pan is still available. VERY Expen$ive. Have also kept a wet rag in one hand while my buddy welded the booger all back up and while ugly. Works fine also.

Tools required for door and bumper extraction?
ScottJeep replied to Comanche 87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Several pairs of different sized Vise Grips. You are gonna use/need them. -
Look at that bench seat now
ScottJeep replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Good Job! Looks pretty good Found spending the weekend taking the seat(s) completely apart....scrubbing the snot out of them and then putting them through two cycles the washing machine and then letting them air dry ( in the sun hopefully ) is the best. Have done it for MJ and a complete XJ. -
Uhhhh.... nope. However just for the fun of it.... I have seen the little side mirrors that look like they came off a YJ set of full hard doors on a MJ before.

^^ A Good Student ^^ studies and along with success...makes the grade ( also known as Renix/MJ ownership )...those that don't well we usually pick over their trucks at the pull-a-part a few months later. Oh... and just so you know I am on your side. DO NOT APPLY ANY SEALANT OF ANY TYPE TO THE SENSOR.

Seat belt/lights/key chime
ScottJeep replied to 87MJTIM's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmmmmm... I'll take a stab/guess and say it sounds like your issue is in the column....for two reasons. (1) The key switch is in the column and would "alert" the buzzer AND (2) The ability to "flash" as you say is controlled by a rod that runs down ~ 8 o'clock position of the column. Have seen it pop out and/or become damaged from repair of a "wobbly" steering column. Yeah, funny (NOT) how I know this one for sure...after fighting with it and realizing what I had done I just couldn't make myself tear it all apart again. My rod got tweaked just enough to not work smoothly. Personally, I've been considering putting the old style foot one back down on the floor. I like it better and it's 10x more durable. Good Luck! -

Automatic Transmission shifting problems
ScottJeep replied to JDub's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The one I used for issues on my XJ http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=987463 Wouldn't hurt to clean the NSS either. -
Scared the crap out of myself due to a POS sender from AutoZone. Grabbed one from the parts bin I had from a JY parts grab. Works fine. Make sure it's CLEAN no sealant of any type!

Is it a bad idea to remove the vacuum harness?
ScottJeep replied to brendon5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK... well I hate to dump all these pictures on this thread but...if it helps others it's worth it. I have the Spectre Cowl Cold Air Intake. Here is it and all my vacuum connections. Full Install VC to air intake tube connector ( included with kit ) Canister connection to air intake tube ( included with kit) Fuel Pressure Regulator @ intake connection. The two smaller lines are the EGR solenoid (others are free to correct me on this one). The LARGE connection is to the rear connection on the VC. Rear VC connection indicated in the previous pic. Brake Booster connection and Intake connection over to my vacuum ball. Vacuum ball. Small connection goes over to the Heat & A/C Top one goes back over and is connected to the vacuum ball. The other red to grey I have plugged right now. Can't remember what it is "suppose" to be. It may suppose to go to the vacuum ball as well. I think I originally had the small football which might have more connections. When I put this thing back together had the small ball in the parts bin so I used it. pl plugged in of the red to grey line. Here is the only shot I took of the EGR / EGR solenoid area. Sorry the quality sucks balls. You can sorta make out that I capped everything down at the EGR. Truck runs fine. I average about 14.5mpg around town with the lift and the tires I run (265/75/16 Bridgestones Dueler RVTs). The intake air tube was just something I found on eBay and got it shipped to me for $80.00. Not really sure of the impact over all performance wise. I am a little leary of the cone filter and the fact that I wrestled with the damn thing for 30 getting it just right to clamp the two main pieces together. Will not be fun for oil changes. And the kit comes with everything EXCEPT some type of screen where the adapter is bolted to the cowl. I used two pieces of different sized screen to make my own. Now it does "sound" totally awesome inside the cab and I think outside (based on the looks over I've gotten..or it sounds like crap and they are trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with my truck!). You can really hear the motor sucking the cool cowl air and a slight whistle as the throttle body closes back up. I have several other pieces from Spectre I pickup at the JY but would need a heat shield to move it back down where the factory box was. Hope this helps! -
Shifter Knob....I gorilla glued it on. Looks 100% better than I expected. Fits near perfect. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000COBC9C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Highly recommend Nate's Rear Bumper. http://www.nates4x4.com/Comanche_Rear_Bumper_p/mjr.htm
