  1. Just wanted to say thanks! I did all of the above and got everything working. Took the truck on a 3 hour 65 mph plus drive on Friday and Sunday for a trip. Drove fine and didn't overheat at all. Planning on getting a tune up next week jsut to make sure I put everything where it needs to go but it looks good. Thanks again!
  2. Thanks I will check it out when I get home. So i just un screw it when it is parked on a hill and that will get the air out?
  3. it is the AMC 2.5 straight 4 I believe. It has two v belts and doesn't have the serpentine.
  4. I am not sure where the temp sensor on the top of the head is located. Sorry I am pretty new at doing any of this.
  5. so just park it on a hill, put the thermostat in the car to heat, open the radiator cap and run it?
  6. The thermostat was changed last month and I tripple checked that I got the right rotation (noticed this was a big deal on a few threads) so I took a picture and double chekced it at the store. So if it is an air bubble, how would I get it to stop over heating? Just run it for awhile?
  7. Hello everyone, I have done some research on here for the past couple of weeks to get my 1986 comanche to stop over heating. I took it into the shop last month and they said that the water pump was likely going but they ended up just replacing my hoses and my radiator fan and assembly. Yesterday I took everything off and replaced my two belts and installed a new water pump! I felt pretty good about myself and everything sounded great when I put a bottle of fluid in and turned everything on. I ended up letting it run for about 5 mins and the oil and temperature gauge seemed fine. I then decided to take it for a spin and was only able to make it about 6 blocks (going about 30 mph) before it started to hiccup and then the temperature gauge started to climb very quickly. I pulled a u turn and headed home one to get back and see that my oil gauge was now reading all the way past anything to the right of the dial and the engine sort of did a "chug a chug clunk clunk clunk" when I turned it off in park. I checked my oil dip stick and it said that I had oil in there. I opened up the cap on the block and it had a bunch of smoke coming out? Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Is there any way to fix it? Any help would be very appreciated and Thank You ahead of time. Best Regards, Sam
  8. Hey everyone, Got a strange issue that i haven't dealt with. I just got a new started put into the 86 and now it seems to sound a lot higher when when it revs up when it starts. It runs fine but then in idle it will start to get slower after awhile and then stalls out when it is just sitting. When I was driving it back from the mountains last night, it would start "skipping" around 55 but still work through it. I then was driving to work and when I had to break in a to come to a stop while slowly moving through traffic, it just stalled. It restarted without and issue but then hiccupped a bit more as I drove it. I just put another quart of oil in it last night, there is no overheating (even though the engine is running really hot and smokes a bit but I think it is just barley leaking oil) and it runs fine above 55 and below it accept when breaking a ton. Any ideas what could be wrong and how I could fix it? Has anyone else had this happen with their inline 4 ? Thanks, Sam
  9. No mine is the V4. It is a workhorse though! Starts and drives like a champ!
  10. Thanks Scott! Yeah I will try cleaning off the ground first and it seems like the volts would be fine since the lights do turn on just not when the brake is pressed or the blinker is turned on?
  11. Hello! I was really happy to come across this board! I just purchased a 1986 Jeep Comanche XLS 4X4. It has the original engine and only 93,000 miles on it for $1,700. There is a little rust under the driver side floor panel but it doesn't leak oil and runs strong! The rest of the body is in GREAT shape but it has a few dents an scarps here and there. So there are a couple of issues that I am having with it and I am looking for some advice. First off, I am sorry if this has been covered already. I looked through some other threads but couldn't find a solution to my problem. So the Left rear light is very confusing. So the break lights and blinker do not light up ever. When I have the lights ON all the bulbs (except the blinker) light up but they don't great brighter or anything when the brake is applied. I turned on my hazards and they only work on the rear right side and not on the left either. I have also noticed that the reverse light only illuminates on that side and not on the right rear light? So to trouble shoot, I checked the fuses and they are fine. I opened up the light and all the bulbs are fine. I opened the little routing box and it is clean. The ground wire it from the light to the side of the truck is a little dirty but looks like it still has a good connection. I just don't know what to do next? Is this an expensive fix if I had to take it into a shop? Well any feedback is welcomed and I am very excited to have found this group! I will post pictures of the new Truck a little later! Thanks and great to meet all of you!
