  1. Yeah they would have with a lil cutting :brows:
  2. all I have to say is full size Chevy 2" drop shackles, and 2" spacers upfront
  3. The only exception to what they are saying is if you want gears past 4.88's, or tires bigger then 37's. 37's can survive on a chromo'd d30, with light throttle use. 4.88 is as low as a d30 goes
  4. Jeff, Post up some pics of the weld on d riongs yoiu have on my old bumper. I welded the rings on the opposite side of where it mounts to the frame, and basically a whole lot of stiff would have to fail for the d-ring to break
  5. I would love to have an FC to wheel  just to be different
  6. I was just making a point. Granted the d30 unit bearings are small, but If they are torqued properly they will hold up to some abusive crap. Everyone girls about their cost, but I think they fail to realize how much each bearing and seal, and time is used in rebuilding or replacing broken shafts, or lock outs on older non unit bearing axles.
  7. It would have to be a pretty big press, cause my 20ton press would be just abouot impossible to press it off on. They are not that expensive.
  8. On 31's you couldnt make it through some of the parking areas where I wheel :brows:
  9. That collar has to be cut off, and a new pressed on if I am thinking of the same collar you are talking about.
  10. It depends on what slightly wider is? whats the WMS. If it is a big bearing 9" with 31 splines.. its good up to 37-38's with no mods, and with moly axles and some creative building... can hold up to what ever you need. Gears are easier to setup also
  11. You will need to ream the knuckles out. If you are going to do this just go get some 1ton TRE's and make a new steering setup. Of course I recommend doing a over the knuckle conversion at the same time maybe something like this
  12. I guess you haven't seen any of the videos or pic of the way I wheel :brows: I have yet to break a ring gear, and I have yet to see one break on a d30. Not saying that that isnt the weak link, but I havent seen it :???: As for the unit bearings.... yeah they wear out, and if not torqued properly they fail rather quickly, but keep in mind all new axles out there are unit bearings. That means all the new d60's and d50's. I wheel my rig on 35's and I am abusive to it, and if it wasnt for the facty that I want to run H1 beadlocks, and some 38's or 40's I would be keeping my d30.
  13. Thats a lil ugly
  14. Yup.. if you would have cut the metal to begin with that would have never happened
  15. Upgarade to some alloy shafts, and the 760 u-joints then. But thats no quarantee that you won't break themn either. I did on 35's
  16. The grands d44 has an aluminum center section, so it isn't the best if you are abusive of your rig, and it still requires mods to fit
  17. Told you that you should have left the corner rock rails in place :D BTW the first dent is the worse  Then it gets easier to sacrafice sheetmetal
  18. cool pics... tough parking lot huh
  19. Who need dome light on the trail
  20. Jeff I have a set of fixed Lca's that came off of Casper. For that matter for the right price you can buy my whole lift and axle setup  I need some coin to buy link ends and coilovers :wrench: I will make you a sweet deal and help install everything :D
  21. You could pull a waggy D44 and weld on some brackets. That way you get stronger axle, and lock outs as well.
  22. Derek.... Nice rig man. I do see a problem or two that I can speak of from experience. One remove a leaf spring from the rear. YOu have lots les weight back ther, and once you get to flexing you will know what I am talking about when you start hanging a tire 3' in the air. Also the way you got your spare mounted will cause damage to your gas tank, especially if you get to bouncing. Next Invest in a fuel cell. They are cheap, and afford good roll over protection from fuel spillage. If you need a list of parts I used on my junk, I will be happy to give it too you. Now on to the front of your rig.... You need a touch more lift, and still have to hack the fender out of the way. Lastly you have come so far to the darkside.. now complete your training and hack the frame off :nanner:
  23. YEP... It looks like a guitar
  24. There is no bearing in between the one holding the carrier and the unit bearing. There is a seal in there, but no bearing
  25. My suggestions is to weld at the recommended heat, and make mutiple passes. NIckle rod is kinda funny to weld with anyways.... too much heat and it likes to arc blow alot
