  1. Keep in mind.. evrything can fit with some modding :brows: As far as the frame not beeing strong enough.... everything can be beefed up... all it akes is a welder some metal, and a deep pocket book :D
  2. OK I am going to tell you what lil I know. Propane is a good power source when the motor that is running it is built to run on it. By that I am meaning the cam shaft and compression are right for the fuel of choice. Propane offers very few advantages over FI, unless of course you don't have it. As for the wiring... Just go buy an aftermrket wiring kit. They have them just about everywhere. Painless is by far the best known one, but also the priciest. I bought one for a CJ project I had from a vendor on ebay, and it was the same exact thing as a painless kit, but made for a YOta I think. It had all the lights, and starting circuits, plus the alt. Pretty basic after I got to looking at it. I think this is the site JToutfitters.com
  3. This is an interesting post, but I will give you my ral world testing I have done... I run home made perches out of 2x3x1/4 wall tubing and make them 7.5 to 8" long. As pointed out that is only a couple of inches longer then stock. The only reason why I do this is so I can have as much of the axle tube as possible to weld too. I only leave about 1/4 to 1/2 " an inch as far as height goes, so you need as much material on both sides of the axle to weld too. Axle wrap is also a product of good traction, and lack of forward momentum... or just too much skinny pedal :brows:
  4. Do yourself a favor Penguin, and buy yourself a chiltons, or haynes sevice manual.. it will answer all your questions, and give you the torque values needed to do the job properly
  5. It is also best to flex your rig out, to get your compressed and extended length. Everyone's rig flexes a lil different, and there is no magical number for the right size shocks, especially depending on driving style
  6. Un less you had some 2x3x1/4 wall tubing left over from building rock rails :D
  7. The shield isnt going to kep any more or less water out. The only advantage to running a type of shield is from the engine heat, but lets face it.. the MJ/XJ/ZJ all draw air right off the radiator, so it really isnt a cold air intake, its more like a less hot air one
  8. The vent windows are realy nice.. especially if its raining out, or cold and you need to let some heat out. the fixed windows suck, but the one piece windows are all right. BTW trail beaters rule
  9. Trust me after a while the wifey will stop getting annoyed at the mess, when you fill your yard with jeeps, your garage with parts, and start using your driveway to work on your junk :wrench: and when you are off, you are either wrenching on your crap or getting ready for a trail ride :D
  10. How come you made the bed so high off the frame? The easiest way to overcome the gas tank is to put a fuel cell in it :D and with a few more mods.. we all know what I am going to say :brows:
  11. I guess I wonbt be painting Pong green now  maybe I will repaint pong Black and paint the cage green  :D
  12. :agree: I have wheeled my LWB MJ at Tellico, and Paragon, and hopefully soon Harlan KY here is the same DB setup on my rig when it was On 33 all terrians and still my DD here is when it was still my driver, but no my DD. It was on 33 MT's with a terra flex long arm setup
  13. With the cruise set at 70mph I averged 11.3 to and from PA. I find that my MPG go way down much faster then that, and really don't improve much if you go 65, so 70 is what it is for me :D
  14. I build my own out of 2x3x1/4 walll tubing. Makes for a nice beefy setup, and you can make them as long as you want, and of set the center pin if you desire
  15. I tow my rig, on a 18 x82" steel deck car hauler, and conservatively my trailer weighs 2000. Pong tips the scales right at 4,000, add into that some parts, and tools, and I am at 7-8000# of cargo. I tow with a 05 Chevy 2500hd, with 4.10's and the gas 6.0 motor. I have never lacked for power going down the highway, or around town towing up grades. What I have lacked was the Fuel tanker I need to keep fuel in it. Seriously... when I was looking last summer.. the salesman kept on trying to get me in a chevy 1500, and he even started stating payload capacites. the Chevy 1500 is rated for 7200# were as the 2500hd is rated at 10,700, I forgot what the 3500 was, but it was a 1000 or so. Needless to say.. I asked for a different salesman, after the guy would not listen to me
  16. Thats a cool tire mounting plate, and the price isnt too bad... I wonder how they do ppl on shipping :hmm:
  17. I think I was the first one to run the full size chevy shackles :D That was like 2 yrs ago... found out by mistake that it would work :driving: The memories Back on topic.... My first BB was bought from one of the adds in the magazines, and it was shackles and spacers and was like 85 bucks, used them for a yr then sold them for 75 :D Keep in mind that a shackle lift will move your tire forward, and could cause clearance issues on the front part of the rear wheel well :brows:
  18. yes but the 700r4 that it got was a different bolt pattern on the bell housing. Yes there is adapters available to adapt the 700r4 to a d300, so I am sure they are out there for other trannies as well
  19. For the most part any SOA kit is just about setting the pinion angle, and welding the perches in place. The bolt on kits do have their place, it is just a travesty of justice for ppl to charge that kinda money for longer u-bolts and a different spring plate. I really wonder if under a hard load if that axle wouldnt kick out the spring perch. If anyone has this.. please chie in. Last time I checked.. spring perches were available from Mr.Gasket for less the 20 bucks, and even high quality u-bolts. Then if you paid a shop to weld your perches on.. I still think you would come in cheaper then that price
  20. The made the j-truck all the way up into the 80's. they were great... the j20 came with a ff d60, and a front d44. Yes it was a passenger side drop motor, but talk about cool. Lets not forget that they also came with a t18 tranny
  21. Thats burnt oil. I would be curious to know what kind of oil has been run in that engine, also has that engine ever been run hot? I had an 89 XJ with over 200,000 miles, and the inside of the valve cover never looked like that :hmm:
  22. I would say at least a 1/2 ton series truck at the minumum, 3/4 ton or 1 ton would be better.
  23. it depends on a couple of things 1. how good are the leaves you are using 2. how tall is the perch you will be using Normally between 5-6" can be xpected, more if you swap in a biggger tube axleI have done the SOA swap now 3 different times, and everytime, I have gotten roughly the same amount of lift, except I got a 1/2 more when I did the 8.8
  24. When I first put my 2" BB on Pong, I went and put some 33's on him  I went through a few cutoff wheels though :brows: this is pong on 31's and a 2"bb
  25. You always could remove the rockers and scrub them, with a wire brush and your cleaner of choice. I prefer to use kerosene or gas. works really good
