  1. Rebuild your front driveshaft. If it is worn out grease won't help it :brows:
  2. I am not positive.. If I was the first.. but you can look back on Jeep forum to sept 04 and I was using a chevy drop shackle from a Full size late 80's truck on my rig  They measure almost 8 3/4" and work great for flex :brows: So wil the 00 or 01 fit.. measure and try thats how I figured out the Chevy shackles worked :D

    Jeff

He drove it out my yard yesterday  with a few minor issues.. but he drove it

We need to see pictures.. and you need to tell us what happened ;)
  5. Wel you shouldn't have thaqt much in parts in it.. Most part Xj's are less then 500, I refuse to pay more than 300 for one myself. As for time involved... I would say less then 15 Hrs.. butr with complications maybe 20. The body work is where it gets tricky. I value my time.. and to do a even small hole in the floor requires removing interior, and making or cutting out a panel to fit. Then you have to seal it and prevent future rust.. Thats is going to be a 5-10 hr job.. if you include running to the store to buy stuff. The Bed hole.. WOW thats a 10hr minimum job. The reason why I say that. is cause you have to prime and remove paint on both sides... make apatch (or cut one from a vehicle you have) the weld in place, finish the panel... then mask the vehicle off for paint. FSJ around where I live are kinda easy to find.. all in varying degrees of repair. Most in price range from 500 to 4000 for a nice running rust free one.
  6. The question is.. how much flex do you want? 33's will flex well with 4.5". 35's will fit with trimming, but you won't have much up travel. If you go 6" or taller you can fit 35's and bigger all depending on how you bump stop your rig. Spring over with stock leafs rocks. Flexes well, and is cheap.
  7. I wailed o9n my D30.. and I think everyone here who has seen a video of me wheeliing knows... that I believe gas is on the right if I can't walk up it. MY d30 with yukon shafts held up to 35's with many full throttle attacks on many obstacles... it finally broke on the short side by the splines..but the made good on it
  8. I did a HO head swap on an XJ once.. the exhaust manifold won't work... and neither will the intake... I suppose you could modify the intake to accept the non-ho throttle body.. but I am not sure. THe exhaust has no provision for the egr tube.. Also the valve cover is different between the two
  9. You said good and inexpensive in the same sentence :???: I just looked at what RE charges for the adjustable uppers  Wow have they gone up in the lasy yr :hmm: I mean they are listing for almost double what I paid :???: I can't see the price they ask. That being said RE or JKS are about the best you are going to buy for the money.
  10. Jeff.. on here should have more info on that, I am just not sure. I know anything can be made to work with a welder, and a plasma cutter though
  11. You shouldn't have to trim you ride at 2" and 31's, unless you got insane flex and need it
  12. The only issue with any 4 to1 kit is it really limits you on what kinda terrian you can run. Thats why you see a lot of ppl running doublers.. or they run doublers for really low gearing. Sometimes you need wheel speed, and other times you want your rig to idle along at a foot a minute :brows: I just don't want to see anyone throw money away,, and not be happy with what they got
  13. N it isnt shut down.. an environetal group is trying to shut it down, cause of something to do with run off water, and fish  .. I can't wait till I make it back to Tellico... I haven't been in 2 yrs  Last time I went, I had a great time.. Bent a d35 axle(didnt break any shafts) Broke a Lock right, and a drivers side axle shaft, fried my alternator.. then drove 450 miles on a yellow top optima That was a good trip
  14. It works.. There are a couple of guys running it on their set-ups in the local clubs..Not the best for road driving.. and can be kinda unpredictable.. but works still the same
  15. WOW My prayers are with you and his family.
  16. NO it don't. It is plug welded to the tibes.. which is why most Tech articles list that as one of the must. It is strongly adviseable to weld the tubes to the pumpkin. This MUST be done with High Nickel rods, and should only be done by accomplished welders
  17. I believe Pete is 100% correct on this.
  18. I am sorry if I came across as a A$$, but after you shell out a grand for the Terra low, and another 250 for a SYE.. you are only a few hundred away form what is argueably the best off the shelf t-case available. Keep in mind.. if you spend all that money on your t-case.. it is still a chain driven case.. that with time will wear out :brows: As far as what works and what is reasonable... I like the RE stuff, kinda pricey, but I have NEVER had anything of theirs fail, and they hold their value in comparison to other companies used stuff. MY 2 dealings with Rusty's were bad... Shipping takes way too long even though they bill your credit card the day you order... most companies bill when shipped. The other was on a steering set up.. that was "heavy Duty" bent it the first time I took it out, and I don't see where I did anything out the way to bend it
  19. Just think.. you could have swapped the whole axle under it.. and been that much closer to being a 4wd Jeep :dunno: Most Napa's have parts diagrams... and often it is easier to look at the parts.. and tell they won't work instead of trying it :brows:
  20. I BELIEVE Randy's Ring and Pinion sells or can rebuild them for you.
  21. Actually most disc brake conversion are based on either the explorer setup or chevy 1/2 and 3/4 ton stuff  So be cheap and pull an explorer rear and modify it so you can get brakes for a d44 ;)
  22. At will non-union employment can do that, but most likely will not. Most people do not think about it, but it cost a lot to hire someone, give them some training so the last thing we want to do is kick them out the door. Back 7 yrs ago when I was doing hires, it spent about $700 just to bring them in the door and put uniforms on them. I am sure it does... I know the drug testing (hair test, and physical) plus all the training costs them a fair penny.. but I know where I work (union work enviroment) we have a 9 month probation period, and they have been known to fire ppl with 8 months and 3 weeks. There are some companies close to where I work at have a 2yr probationary period (budwieser, and philip morris).
  23. WOW I can't believe anyone living would recommend Rusty's Long arm kit  or anything from Rusty's especially customer service. Rough Country is a lil better in the service department.. but I can tel you their XJ kit rides rough :brows: If you are going to pay the price for a terralow kit and SYE might as well go buy an Atlass 2.. it is only a few hundred more
  24. I wouldn't pay the premium a D44 commands(at least in my area) to have a bolt in axle  Even if you can t weld.. setting the perches in position and tacking in place.. then driving to the muffler shop, or competent welder to pay at the most 50 bucks.. you still come out cheaper then you would if you paid the 3-400 bucks a d44 goes for, and you would have disc brakes ;) As for which is stonger.. we can debate this issue :brows: I have seen an xj break a shaft in a 44 on 33's.. while i wailed on my 8.8 on 35's, but everyone's experience is different.
  25. You had your front leafs setup with the shackle in the front right? I know that is the easy way.. but everyone I have seen with that kind of setup has had a problem with bending their leaf springs. I can't wait to see your link build up
