IIRC the RE kit is basically Drop brakets, and a spring over axle swap in the front. Which goes back to my original statement that XJ lifts on the front, and shackles, aal or soa in the rear. :brows:

I have wanted a gps for some time... the price has always kept me from buying one. :brows: Looking at the sale flyers got me curious.. so I looked online, at some of the more reputable places, and have found them to be way more affordable then I thought. That is why I came on here and asked for ppl's personal experiences, especially since you hardly ever hear negative stuff about a product from a buyer, especially on a site trying to sell you one. Incidentally the cheapest place I have found for GPS has been Amazon.com for new one, and for factory refurbished with all the warranty and stuff has been Refurbdepot.com. More then likely I will buy one from amazon, but I have found a jeep I might want more then a GPS. Keep the comments coming guys thanks

They are a funky metric size... I wish I could remember

Some ppl make their own t-case drops :D Basically some 1x1 about 8" long (x2) a nice 7/16 drill bit, and 4 longer bolts. and call it good. As far as leveling the front.. change the rear to an XJ shackle.. should get it closer :brows:
-
don't forget if you do a SYE, you will need a new driveshaft :brows: Thats why I suggested the rotating the axle. As a temp fix.. you could do the t-case drop. Not the best option, but would work. A sye and D/S is a lot of chrome to come off of this time of year ;)

400sbc in the jeep
pingpong replied to billybob_jeep's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Have you looked at block hugger headers? How much less space does a MJ have compared to the S10? My 4.3 xj, has stock exhaust manifolds on it, and seems to clear everything well. -
Basically What I want is a device to tell me where to go when I am on a trip. I would also like the feature of knowing how fast I am going, or when I should arrive. My wife is not a very good map reader, and when we get lost, or are trying to find a place... well she lacks the ability to make the distinction between which way to go. She is getting better at it... but my patients are wearing thin. :brows: The other thing that somewhat intrests me is the POI's. Nothing like being in a different area, and wanting something besides a franchise meal. I love my Outback, and Red Lobster, but I like to support the mom and pop places, I have been leaning towards the Garmin Street pilot series as well. I have played with the c330, and the c340. I can get the c530 for a lil more, but I am not sure if it is any better from the reviews I have been reading. I shall do more research. More opinions and advice will be appreciated

It should have d44's front and rear. Depending on yr.. it should have disc brakes upfront (flat top knuckles as well). If it is the 258 it should be mated to the 727TF. T-case will be a quadratrac, or a D20, maybe one of those Borq warner jobbies as well. To me it would make a great trail beater. Do a SOA swap, crossover steering, on say 35's or 37's. A nice cage... and cut the top off behind the driver.. and proceede to wail on it :brows: All told the only real money you would have in it is the cage, and tires, and the tires can go with you to your next beater. If you sold off the glass and sheetmetal to fanatics.. it could almost be free

I have seen Yj's rotate the 8.8 up till it took 7 qts of oil to fill it  So rotating it up might not be ideal but can be done easy. For me that would be easier then hunting down a YJ yoke.. and cheaper :brows:

OK I am in the market for one, and I have been doing lots of searches, and window shopping  Nothing like walking through Best buy and Circut City just to try and figure out which system I want to buy. Anyways, I am sure a few ppl on the board own one. My question is which model, why did you buy it, and whether or not you would buy it again. Also what you like/disliked about that model. Thanks In advance for your help

Couple of things to consider. IIRC the 8.8 pinion sits a lil lower. There are a couple of options. The easiest would be to rotate your pinion up to about 7* or 8*. The other option is to change from the companion flange setup to a yoke style set up. I think that even if you change to the yoke you would still have to rotate the pinion though.

I really am not a fan of hood vents, but I kinda like the idea. If I was going to install some I would make a deflector under the hood to keep the water off of vital stuff. I know it has been debated all over the net.. but if your cooling sytem is functuning right.. ther is no real need for them. I have personally wheeled in some 95+ heat days, and never had an issue with my junk overheating on the trail :brows:

XJ front lifts for the rear you are stuck using Chevy drop shackles, aal from spring under axle applications or new leaf springs

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, but work does that. To do the 4.3 swap is pretty basic if you are going to run drivers drop axle. Advance adapters sells the mount kit for under 200 (really a good deal if you ask me.. saves a lot of frustration) but it moves the ngine over to the passenger side... bad if you plan on running a dual case passenger drop setup (pong) Painless wiring makes a nice wiring kit for it, kinda pricey but if you can pull the whole wiring setup from the donor.. no need If you run a 700r4 there are a few companies that make adpaters (clocking rings) for them.. or you can run a np207 or np208 The isue with the t-case is you need a t-case shifter setup. I am still working on finishing this swap.. I have to finsh hooking up the trans, and install driveshafts... maybe I will get to that here soon
-
WHen I did my 8.8 swap I all ready had a SYE.. so I guess I really can't answer that question  I wil say this.. the 8.8 is a gear oil hog though.. IIRC it took like 5qts of oil :headpop:

Technically you are not suppose to do anything at an Election Polling place. Thats why canidates can't campaign in the building, but have to do it outside... or in the parking lot. I can't say I support what the police did, but if they let the BSA do it.. they have to let the right to lifers, and the other zealots be able do it

So whatcha gonna do with the car... I will replace the spindle and get an alignment and drive it :D You see what I drive normally so whats the real difference
-
I prefer leaving the wheels on, that way you can roll the axle out from underneath it. This does require that you have 12 ton jack stands though
-
It looks like it could be a real nice rig.. front suspension looks kinda Booty fab, but swap a d60 in, and changed the t-case to a doubler and lower it about 6" and it would make a decent crawler, or run it like it is in a Mud bog  I am always skeptical of bidders with low/ no feedback driving the prices up.
-
Glad to hear you are ok. IS the KIA still driveable... looked it to me  No one hits a car that is a rolling wreck :brows: They actually give you more space and stay clear :smart: If there is anything I can do to help you give a holler

Look at the feed back on the buyers.. and what there score is.. and what they have bid on in the past

well, 12hr days, 7 days a week has finally bit me...
pingpong replied to rockhardzj's topic in The Pub
The guard rail the guy took out was the coral style.. you know the kind with a post every 5' or so and the side are around 12"or 18" square. Very little rebar in it at all. He was driving a mid to late 90's ford, and was traveling around 55-60. I wish I still had pics of the truck.. the drivers front tire was about at the middle of the door  -
who has cut their fenders?
pingpong replied to A-man930's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That makes it seem like work to cut apart your rig. My method is to draw a line in marker... tape it and proceeded to cut  if I get fancy and get technical.. I wil grind the paint and cut it with the plasma :brows: -
here is pretty much everything you need to know. If the axle is a disc brake front, and the knuckles can be milled and the brakes and spindles are serviceable.. might be worth a few bucks. This will enlighten you on the D44's http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/web_rs44.html Book mark it and read it often when you have questions about if the axle is worth building

I replaced the lil vent line with an 86 pcv valve and grommet from an 86 CJ, and where it goes into the intake I screwed in a brass air chuck, then ran a line between the 2. Poor mans PCV system
