loc tite and a torque wrench work wonders for keeping bolts in

they have that? Since the International MJ Preservation Society exists only in my mind, and I am the self-appointed President for Life -- they have it now, because I just made it up.

I know a guy who is swapping one into a tj. So far he is in about 2 grand for the motor. He just got a NV4500 trans... not sure what that set him back., but for that price a v-8 crate motor isnt very far out of the price range

I too run a CO2 tank.. I think mine is a 15# one too. I get my tank filled at the local welding supply. It was costing 15 bucks.. but I havent had it filled in a while. It would be cheaper if I didnt require my tank back (mine is aluminum) and is lighter then a steel tank. I can normally air up and down 10 to 15 times on 1 fill or run a impact for about 30 minutes. My regulator is a 125psi ballon one.. with no gauges

mj to xj axle housings question
pingpong replied to mjdoa's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Having spare axles around only take up space :brows: If you want them for spare parts pull the shafts ( only if they are the later 297 joints, the 260 style joints will break under mild wheeling with a locker), pull the wheel bearings (only if you are sure they are useble, or keep for trail spares), pull the steering if you are running stock style steering (it will bend), the rest of it will do you no good. You might wanty to take the spare knuckles and have them drilled/reamed for 1 ton steering, you never know when you might do that mod  -
Appreciate the offer but I al ready have afull size matching spare. But if you have some 3.5 BS rims.. I will buy them

Well I just had a local mobile auto glass guy come and Pull my windshield, and he charged me 50 bucks (he didnt break the glass though), and he is going to charge another 50 to re-install it. He told me if he broke the windshield it would be under 200 for a new one installed.

4.10's or 4.56's would work great for you. Both ratio's came stock in jeeps so you should be able to find them at your local Pick and pull but they only come up once in a while. Your other option is to buy gears and install kits. Not exactly a cheap option, but a feasible one if you can find used gears. Install kits are right around 100 bucks an axle. Labor is what gets you, and add up quick. This is where a local Jeep or Offroad club comes in handy.. befriend the local gear installer, and work a deal. I just had some gear work done, and got a smoking deal from the installer cause I took him to Tellico a few yrs ago as my winch Biatch. -
I just checked my emails this morning, and it said my part was shipped... and it showed up today  BTW thanks again on the parts

Glad to hear you are graduating. The good thing about going through a Union to learn a trade, is they have set standards and principles. Also they look out for the workers as they are training, and after. Once you become a Journeyman, yyou can travel with your union card in hand and work out of any Union hall as long as you pay the correct fee's, and they have work. I belonged to SteamFitters/Pipefitters Union till I gave it up to be a Iron Worker  Now I work in a PaperMill and we are part of the USW (United Steel Workers ). I also say go to Operator school. They make good money where I am at, but they have a long apprenticeship here (8000 hr), and there are not that many jobs for operators.

I would love to help.. but that would be an 8 hr ride for me if you got close to VA. Sorry

WHich 4.5 Lift to choose
pingpong replied to fatcat0491's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have bought stuff from both companies. Rusty's customer service sucks, and his shipping times are at best variable. On the other hand Adam (motion Offroad) took the time with me to figure out what I wanted. Then he looked up the kit, and it said it wasnt for compatable with my trans... so while on the phone tape measures on both ends, we figued out what had to be done to make it work. Try getting that kind of service from Rusty's. -
I run one on Pong.. its loud.. but not too obnoxious. They take up less space, and are cheap to replace.
-
I remembered that as I was getting it down 295  I was like may be next time I will remember :brows:
-
To me the sig line where the person lists all their mods makes them seem like they are bragging, or "look guys I just spent a lot of money". Most ppl kinda know what you are/not running on your rig.
-
I bought one years ago, off of ebay and I think I paid right around a 100 bucks for it, but that was 2 yrs ago.. I am sure they are way higher now

Crane Heavy Duty 8.25" Diff Cover
pingpong replied to LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Up at one of the places I wheel (Crozet) One person hit an obstacle so hard with the crane cover, it put a crack in a D60 housing which ultimately caused an axle failure  Cover was still good though  Just be careful ramming the cover into things... it can be stronger then your cast pumpkin -
UPS man showed up today with a set of C4X4 brackets.. thanks Adam, and a box from summit which had a free hat and my harnesses :D I wonder if I will need them
