  1. Heck with the paperwork he has, I ant to see a build sheet on something like that
  2. pingpong

    Blah.

Yup.. you have to love ford's pre apply loc-tite to the flange bolts. I have a pretty flexy rig, and I know a lot of ppl running shackle reversal CJ's and a couple running 1/4 ellipticals, and the most I have heard of for a slip spline is 10" of useable spline. I am gong to have to see pics of a driveshaft with 24" of travel. I bet it vibes like hell
  3. I'm not sure, but the length of the windshield should work. I just want to put it somewhere, where ppl can see it and find out about the site :brows: As for rattlecanning it on my rig... I can't have no booty fab crap on my rig :thwak: :nanner:
  4. CW nice pics and post. This too should be a sticky, as it is a common swap. For me my idiot lights and no gauges work fine as if I burn Pong up, I have a reason to do a 4.3 swap :nanner: As for running dual electric fans. The horsepower savings in minimum at best and it puts more strain on the notoriously weak stock alt (unless you have the 105 amp one) The only advantage to running 2 fans is if you run in a lot of water or mud, where the mech fan is thorwing mud and water all in your engine bay anyways, but if that was the case you would fry your alt petty darn quick as they don't function well under water :nanner: :smart: Call me carzy, but dual fans jsut don't seem worth it to me :dunno:
  5. NO there rear axle won't work. The MJ's spring perches are 5/8 narrower then a XJ. So bo It won't work There almost needs to be a sticky on this topic
  6. Who needs doors  They are for DD
  7. The renix style FI is known to get decent gas mileage with the proper gearing and tires. I had an XJ with the 4.0 and the 5spd and it wasn't uncommon for it to average 24-25 MPG but keep in mind i am the grandpa style driver that everyone hates to get behind. I take off slowly, and hardly ever go faster the 60MPH

    Blah.

This is why it is important to flex you rig using mechanical means and not just static flexing. My rear shafts shortens 3/4 of an inch at full drop and lengthens almost an inch at full stuff. Personally if it was my rig I would make a square shaft and call it good, but you drive yours on the road, so I don't know what to tell you
  9. Hey Pete, I love the Magnet Idea, but I would really prefer a banner style sticker with lettering so I can stick them on the bars on the back of my rig :brows: You don't know how many times ppl accuse my rig of being a Yota until they get up clocs and see the flat black commanche emblems
  10. No he won't.. I have acces to a connecting rod oven  Thats onlyy if he want to travel over an hour each way though
  11. :shake: and on top of all that Pong never says NO to me
  12. Got some rust to fix on the doors, gone herc the bottom 1/3rd. Then she'll be real pretty. Until I trail damage it  Just loose the bed and doors now, and chop the frame.... thats what I call body damage
  13. I might have messed mine up, but I have been abusing this axle now for almost a Yr now  and the only issue I had was the stock stamped diff cover giving up the ghost on the first ride  I haven't checked the 2 ppl who welded there axles with 7018 cause I rarely wheel with them, but the next chance I get I will. I also do agree that preheating is important, but it is really hard to get the cast ssection (pumpkin) up to 500* without total diassembly, and a huge oven. That is why I preheated till I saw oil burning  and then I welded in small 1" increments, spacing them 180* apart from each other. Then I did a cover pass after I went around the whole axle :smart: did I do it right :dunno: But I am wheeling it
  14. There was just a writeup aboput Rockport in Crawl Magazine I think. Soundslike an awesome place, but with fuel being so high I am going to have to pass
  15.
  16. I have to agreee with Drachir.. Catatonics wife, was either watching him type, or typing it for him  My wife understands that I love to wheel, and I have much pride in ly rig and driving ability (or lack there of). BUt to date a chick that made me wreck my rig is justy wrong
  17. Sounds like a perfect rig for a swapped in 1ton chevy drivetrain, and some 42's on recentered hummers :brows:
  18. No such thing as strapping something down to hard :brows: Thats why I use 6 straps on my rig  BTW awesome looking project  what t-case, tranny, and engine are you going to use? I am hoping you are going to put a fire breathing 502, or heni on nitrous in it
  19. From a technical standpoint you don't need one. But from the reliability standpoint, I don't see why you wouldn't spend the money. It also boils down to a longevity issue. The runout on a tailshaft will cause seals to wallow out over time especilly on higher lifts (excess of 5"). It is just cheap insurance if you also grenade a driveshaft of a rear pinion
  20. I welded my own tubes, I did pre-heat some, but the key is to space your weld out, and to weld small sections at atime on opposites side of the tubes to create a even heat. I used Hi-nickel rods, but I know of 2 ppl who used 7018 and have had zero issues
  21. I say weld in some expanded metal over the opening and cal it good :nanner: That way you can see what is hanign you up  I am getting ready to drill 2.5 inch holes in my floor boards on both sides so I can see where my tires are on off chamber stuff
  22. LOL! In the world of 4x4s it is always unavoidable to witness those few and proud who make up for their lack of testosterone with big suspensions and big tires! Go ahead and dump your "wifey" for your Chryslerian inanimate object for all I care! :rotf: My rig and I go back a few yrs :chillin: and I think I have spent a lot of time working and building my rig into what it is. My wifey would never make me get rid of my rig, so this is really a non issue. But to hook up with a girl after she made you total your rig  thats just nuts
  23. One of the guys named Rob put this slide show together. Its pretty cool, but does take a while even on Cable to download. http://rapidshare.de/files/21382860/Par ... 6.wmv.html
  24. In my opinion it is almost cheaper to have custom leave packs made by Alcan or another reputable spring maker then it is to deal with Rusty's. I think my springs were 480 after shipping and they perfromed great til I changed my rig up. Now I am going to pull a few leafs out and see how they do. If I don't like how they perform.. I am going to link it up
  25. You are absolutely right :brows: Butr keep them as the metric equivalent, cause they are auctually a touch stronger then regular grade 8.
