  1. I think to have a kit available to put a cage in a MJ would be great. There are no kits for an interior cage available that I know of. Thats why I went the custom exo cage route. Now I am thinking of adding an interior cage as well  Might be overkill, but I had another scarey experience that bent part of my exo cage so I think it is time for me toi upgrade my cage a lil more :brows:
  2. Matt at Independent4x has a bunch of the 5.29 gears for the 12b isuzu. Axle strenght is similar to the d60 in strength. Also everyone passes them up, making them cheap and easy to get. Just truss the hell out of it.
  3. Build a strictly trail rig out of it. I took a good condition MJ, and beat it into a bad conditon one, then truggied it.. why not start with a marginal one and skip the 2 yrs of abuse and just build a truggy :brows:
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIhgkMsk ... ch=paragon I am in it towards the end... :brows:
  5. Not really sure  I know it is way lighter then it was before :brows: Espescially since I can't carry all the crap I used to keep in my rig :dunno: I also know I am going to pull 2 leafs out the rear so I can gain some flex  Right now I hang a rear tire often, which creates some unique feelings when I am off camber and facing down hill
  6. I say for weight savings use a 4.3, produces close to what a stock 4.0 does and can be had cheap. Caddy motors would take lots of work to make fit... those things are pigs. as for the 2.8 MJ/XJ's they are total garbage. they are a total vacum nightmare. I had one in a 89 s-10, and after the head gaskets were replaced at 120,000 miles I drove it for another 70,000 sold it for more then I paid for it, and then watch it get sold 2 more times, over 3 yrs before someone finally killed the poor thing  It had on;y marginal power, but got decent milage :D
  7. My plans are to installl a roll lock on the front brakes. Easier and cheaper then installing e-brake parts. :brows: POlus it will make it easy to do burnouts

    Rare MJ's??

Mine is a 90 with a column shift  It had the pioneer package
  9. YUp and it only gets worse from there :brows:
  10. Its bad enough Mj's have a rust problem :shake: Now someone wants them to have termites too :nanner:
  11. is that what that is  who needs e-brakes when you have an auto
  12. That is why I never work under a vehicle in my garage w/o my cell phone on me, and my wifey home. Never know what is going to happen.
  13. Prices vary widely by region, and what is in the complete axle. If it is trul;y complete with good rotors, and calipers, and hubs expect to pay more then say one that needs all that replaced. Also ones that have 4.10's or higher bring more money. Keep in mind that not all d44's are equal as well. For example, the ford 3/4 ton d44's have different lenght shafts, and chromo's are expensive for this. also a FSJ d44 is not a true full width one. POINT IS DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE buying something you don't need or want. AS for a D60 being a boat anchor :smart: at least it is a strong one :nanner: and since I can run bigger tires on it.. it won't be such an anchor
  14. Man thats a steep build. I don't have that much in al 3 build ups of Pong. But for somereason I think the next round of build up is going to exceede what you have spent so far.
  15. How come they are speaking ano0ther language  Anyway the commentary sounded exciting

    Rare MJ's??

If some one has 3 of them.. they can't be but so rare :shake:
  17. I must agree :agree: go buy a used set of axles all ready set up 4.10. Also for a used set of gears that price is kinda high. The only advantage to using used gears is purchase price cost, and when they cost that much, you can almost buy new, and get free shipping. I think last time I checked on new d30 gears, they were around 119, with shipping. but thats been a yr or so ago, so prices might have gone up.
  18. The HPd30 built right can survive. Granted I just busted a chromo shaft, but I have not yet experienced the joy of a failed R&P, and I can't say that I personally know someone who has. Dirty Manche, I must ask you did you set your gears up right? and what brand of gears did you use? Some gear manufacturers are known for their weak gears, and thus no ones buys them.. except maybe you :nanner: BTW there should be a warranty for your gears. BTW to build a D44, cost just about the same as a D60... just keep that in mind. The only real difference is the initial price
  19. Remember to truss the Isuzu axle. I would measure how wide the WMS is on my 8.8 but I am to lazy to get off my Fat A$$ You got no bed, wo why does it matter how wide it is anyways :dunno: If it was me, I would just run the LPD, as you won't have to worry about the pumpkin caving in your exhaust under extreme flex situations like I do :brows: Just have the "c's" cut off and rotated up. would be much easier. I would also do the leaf conversion while I was at it
  20. Don't buy new tires if you can help it. You probrably will never recover over half of what you paid for them even if they have less then ayr on them. I know I sold 5 33x12.5's on rims for 300, then I sold my BFG MT's on rims for 350. At the same time, I purchased a set of 5 35x12.5's on rims for a steal as well. BY far BFG makes a real good MT, only problem with them is price, and I have ripped 2 sidewalls on them in the last 6 months. Of course they were used, so no warranty there. I have heard reall good things about MTR's, and TSL's are an old school favorite. I am waitng to see some one on som Maxxis creepy crawlers, or treapadors. BTW BFG krawlers rock (especially red labels) Just remember to dig deep if you go to buy them
  21. If you buy fixed LCA's or UCA's you will regret it. Always upgrade for the Adjustable ones, that way if Inchitis hits, you will have adjustment to correct pinion angle.
  22. New stock brake lines,(pick a make) are only marginally cheaper then a custom made SS line. just a heads up. Same thing goes for shocks.
  23. I ran the RE drop brackets for over a yr, and I bought them used. They work great with stock control arms, and 6.5" Rusty's coils. The only problem I had with the drop brackets is that they use up sone of your ground clearance. Not much, but if you wheel like I do, every bit counts :brows: I don't know wnyone wheeling TNT's kit, the only Problem I see with it, is that it is a radias arm style kit. Personally If I was going to spend the money they are asking for that kit, I would want a parrallel 4 link. The terra kit, is a parrallel 4link. Dirty Manche was right it uses brackets, but it is real easy to fab up a flat skid, if you have enough skills to install the kit. BY NO MEANS IS THIS A TERRA ENDORSEMENT, I only paid 200 for the LA upgrade kit, and at the time it was beyond my tool level to fab something up like that. Again RESEARCH is key to something like this. Personally If I had to do it all over again, I would build my own, or adapt a Radias arm setup like Pete did
