  1. Reverse doesn't have a regular fork like the other gears, so as long as there's nothing wrong with the 1/2 shift collar, which is also the output shaft's reverse gear, it would be rather easy to fix as you wouldn't need to use a press for anything.
  2. For a DD just go for an OEM. your 2.8 is in no way going to pull enough power to need an upgraded clutch. Riding a clutch is the worst thing you can do to one, and no amount of upgrades is going to make that less true.
  3. Don't ride the clutch and an OEM one should last you well over 100k.
  4. If it's an 86-90 2.5 it's throttle body injected, if it's a 91 or 92 it will be multiport injected. There's a chance it's a rare 4 popper diesel, but highly unlikely.
  5. Touched it for the first time in a week. Hopefully this weekend I can do something productive to it now that the rest of my parts are here. Also got this the past week. :D Crappy pic but couldn't find the real camera.
  6. You're providing very little details, we need mainly price, year, and if there's anything known wrong with it. 66k miles on a 18+ year old truck can be a blessing or a nightmare. If they've been spread out and the truck maintained, it should be good to you. If it got those 66k miles in the first 4 years of its life and has sat ever since, you will need to do quite a bit to the truck to even get it moving. Also, the Sportruck package generally had crappy decals on the side and very little options. It also probably has an AX-4 with 3.55 gearing, vs. the more favorable AX-5 with 4.10 axle gearing.
  7. Dude. Laredo. Why do you not have it yet?
  8. That external bellhousing/bearing retainer/fork alone could be worth $50... also, that looks like it may have the T-case still on it. Unless he's selling just the gearbox, it's definitely worth it, if he's only letting the box go, it could still be worth it depending on why reverse won't work.
  9. If what you're talking about is what I think you're talking about, then no, it's not part of the bearing. Again, a picture would just be fantastic, and you might be ok... depending on the size of the chip and whether or not it's starting a crack.
  10. No, you cannot just swap tail sections and bolt up the T-case. The output shafts between the 2wd and 4wd transmissions are completely different. I've heard that the AX-5 went to a 23 spline sometime around 2000, but never confirmed it. There is absolutely no need for 23 spline stuff behind a 2.5. You'll be fine with the 21 spline stuff. Also, the AX-4/5 need a long shaft input on the T-case, again doubt they ever had 23 spline versions of those.
  11. You have an AW4, and you need a 4wd AW4 to make your truck 4wd. Converting a 2wd trans to a 4wd trans, especially any automatic, is time consuming, costly, and by the time you're done, you'd have pretty much bought a 4wd trans anway.
  12. With it idling, pull the oil fill cap off the valve cover and watch a rocker. If the ticking sound is the same speed as the rocker is moving, it's a valvetrain issue, most likely the lifter as mentioned above. If it's twice as fast as the rocker, you have a rotating assembly problem that would need to be immediately addressed. If it's not either of those, your problem lies somewhere else not inside the motor.
  13. Just to be nitpicky :smart: and to clarify, a 4 cylinder has 2 pulses per revolution, a 6 cylinder has 3. Still would obviously need to adjust a 4 cylinder tach to be correct on a 6.
  14. After you're here for a little while longer, you'll realize that almost everything Jim posts is a joke...
  15. For links going to another topic in this forum, you don't need to use any tags. Just put the entire URL, and it will automatically go to a clickable viewtopic.php?xxxxxxxxxxxx
  16. You shouldn't need to replace the key tumbler to replace the ignition switch. The tumbler is somewhat of a pain to get at if you don't have the right tools, the ignition switch itself is at the base of the column, outside the column. Should just be a rod going from up in the column to the switch.
  17. I have never seen a clutch switch on anything older than 96. Neither my Renix XJs had them, and neither of my 91 MJs have them either.
  18. I can't imagine any need for them.
  19. If everything on YouTube was true, the cure for RROD would be wrapping the 360 in a towel and a couple of pillows.
